  1. I remember he missed one at home vWolves c1979, the first he missed for us*.It was unthinkable that he might miss,or it might be saved, he was Mr Reliable in the same way that MLT and Lambert have become. *Remembered almost as well as the first he scored for us vPalace in the semi-final.
  2. The anniversary shirt aside, any other official events seem to have been decidedly low key.Sorry to ask, but what were the official events ? I have clearly missed them although possibly because of being exiled. As for ex players on the pitch, I assume your referring to the 1976 players at the Man U cup tie. In itself, very good but it seemed rather petty that the manager who masterminded it was not present. Despite being unofficial and late, this weekends events have clearly caught the attention of the fans and struck a chord. Any chance that NC is envious of the success ? I like NC, and his management but feel he is out of line here in not openly acknowledging our previous success and those that brought it here. Having lived through the Lawrie Mac era,I can not subscribe to the bitterness many are spouting towards him. When NC has delivered promotion(s),an FA Cup, regular european football, and signed the current European Player of the Year, he too will be as popular as Lawrie. Finally, I wonder if Markus might have been more gracious about the 'unofficial' event etc.
  3. Isn't that so glaringly obvious ? an idiot should see it,even one in charge of the FA. If pandering to ITV has not already ruined the cup already then a thinktank of FA executive **** Head, Adrian Chiles, and co will certainly do so.
  4. Ditto. I 'd feel for fans of any proper club going through this, Plymouth and many before (Newport County,Aldershot for two), possibly even the skates, although that might be tinged with some slight amusement....
  5. Not 'evidence' as such, but it was certainly a point made when the ground was first opened, and nothing has been said or written to correct it.
  6. And lets not forget KK's overhead spectacular against MancU even if it was disallowed. In answer to the original question about the goals scored,Delap had far less space to work in if I remember correctly, but of course its 'king Chav' for Man U so it will be 'the greatest goal ever..' as far as the media are concerned.
  7. Going back even further, I remember the rumour that Saints wanted to buy the houses in Burton Road immediately behind the old east stand at The Dell in order to develop. Such rumours are nothing new, although I expect NC is more focussed and driven than the good old board of gentlemen from yesteryear.
  8. Wasn't this the theory behind Paul Allen's (alleged) interest ?
  9. Tommy Doc certainly came out of that defeat in 1976 with good grace, and surprisingly to many given his reputation elsewhere in the game. Subsequent Manc managers would do well to heed a lesson from him.
  10. Good to see the Plate Hurling Championship duo (from The Clump) c1997 were reunited for the occasion: Surprised Rupert was unable to join them in person, did they have a live link up by satellite from Gloucestershire ?
  11. No doubt the building contains the best equipt and most lavish treatment room in the history of football. Which is a shame because (some of) our strikers will probably not want to leave that comfort zone.
  12. cleft
  13. 'Little Joe' Jordan ? or Hoss Cartwright if he played for us; he probably had a better turn of speed than Dowie or Paul Moody.
  14. Three more
  15. Also in my collection
  16. In the mid - late1970's Saints had their town centre shop just up from Edwin Jones (although the latter might have been Debenhams by this stage)
  17. Good point by the OP Bring it on!!!
  18. It is easy to dismiss the story on the back of fact you deem the particular newspaper an unreliable source. However if I remember correctly though it was The Mail on Sunday who lead the story naming the Liebherrs as our potential saviours.* And FWIW I do not believe the current story but have no evidence either way to back my feeling. *although they did indicate the wrong Liebherrs at the time.
