I fully expect that the Adkins deal will go through,probably later today but are there any known alternatives still on NC's radar assuming that NA and Howe have been accounted for, and according to last nights 'Dinner with NC', Brown been discounted ? I expect KK and MON were taken off the list,if they were ever on it in the first place,a while back.

I can't believe if that is the level of compensation involved that we are in any argument over it.I would have thought "buying out" the remaining contracts would be in excess of that. I heard a report from BBC Humberside - courtesy of a link provided on here - that they were seeking a "modest" sum probably no more than £60,000 and thought that would be off the mark but that sort of figure seems to re -emerge. From the current impasse I certainly have sympathy with the Sc^nthorpe chairman in seeking compensation;remember the outrage when Hoddle left us, although of course that was without giving him permission to talk to them. Also surprises me that they allowed him to speak to us without prior agreement on compensation.

Agree in many ways. Apart from MON or KK there are no really charismatic names put forward. Even Howe , and Tisdale would get some latitude from the fans - albeit for a short period - due to youth and an ex -Saints connection.Adkins however is expected to go straight into battle and energise our dispirited squad immediately or have the fans breathing down his neck.Plus having to contend with Reed behind the scenes. Will he cope with "expectation" and pressure though ? Something his "stature" has not faced before.

That though is a concern about many of the candidates we are linked with,Howe ( too young ?),Tisdale (nothing above L1 and limited playing career), Hill (an unknown). Adkins ( "a bloody physio" as some players might see him),and then there are the overseas names who some would regard as "a bloody foreigner.." whatever their experience. But then again some players did not respond to the Bally's "medals to prove it" motivation either.

I can't remember the names touted after Lawrie left.I'd moved away but was told some years later by another Saints fan that Nichol had been an "open secret" for sometime in Southampton.There were ITK's pre-internet. When CN left several names were mentioned including Shilton and Channon, but before the announcement names listed in a paper included Jim Smith, Barry Lloyd (who ?) and Ray Harford. Many Saints fans wanted a proven up and coming manager from Bournemouth at the time,whose early press comments indicated he really wanted the job.I thought he was the obvious clear cut choice. Never did I expect Branfoot and what was to follow.
