Fuck me, I’d have hoped they knew we had a pile of shite before Tuesday. Surely the manager & Wilcox will have watched videos of last season, seen scouting reports & watched these clowns in training. If they came away from Tuesday surprised how god damn awful most of them are, then I would be worried.

The most pointless virtue signalling from refs is booking the keeper for time wasting. No way in a million years they’ll ever send one off for 2 yellows, so they just make a token effort to speed up, without actually doing so. I was always hoping someone like Mike Dean would send one off eventually.

He wouldn’t get in our best side the past 10 years, yet alone 35. Fuck me, people throw pony like “greatest” around too much nowadays. Being the stand out player in our side is a bit like being crowned the most interesting Belgian, funniest German or prettiest skate chick. He’s not a patch on some of the players we’ve had the past 35 years.

It’s “umpires call” because ball tracking is used, nobody knows for sure whether the ball would have hit the stumps. They don’t use umpires call on line decisions, you’re either in or you’re out. Just as you’re either offside or onside.

I agree. Was pretty anonymous for long periods of the second half when the full back defended a bit more aggressively & had some help. I’m sure sides will double up on him, give him some clog and generally get in his face. If he can overcome that, then maybe he may turn out to be as good as people hope. But I’m not convinced yet.

You don’t tend to have 4th officials at grass roots level. My lad plays in the Wessex league and I’ve never seen one (mind you they probably don’t officiate from the bar, so I could have missed it)& I dread to think who’d want the gig when The dog & duck meet The Farmers Arms on Sunday morning. I’d be amazed if they fundamentally changed the length of professional game & leave the semi pro & amateur game at 90 mins (I’m not saying they shouldn’t, just that they won’t).

There’s only one way to stop time wasting and that’s to change the time from 90mins to a ball in play figure. I’ve no idea what it is, but I imagine about 60 mins is probably about right. 2 X 30 min halves and clock stops when balls not in play. I imagine it’s harder to do so at grass roots & lower level, so probably the reason it’s not done. But with all the will in the world you won’t stop time wasting until it becomes pointless.

Pound to a penny it’ll be in the championship next season anyway.

Wait until we have a perfectly good winner ruled out but a useless Lino & then see the reaction. I doubt there will be many “football is back” posts then. I never wanted VAR, but you can’t put the genie back in the bottle.

Played some really good passes from the back and looked comfortable on the ball, but he’s paid to defend and his defending was just about adequate. It’s really just a trade off between this possession from the back style & defending robustly, because I doubt they’ll be any big ugly pirates who can play out from the back wanting to play for us in the championship.

Comes across as a decent intelligent guy, very sure of himself and committed to his football beliefs. I don’t think anyone could accuse him of being a patsy or being told which system or players to play. I thought sky went a bit overboard on the “transformation” of our playing style, it’s not like we’ve gone from knocking long balls or playing like Brentford to a possession game. We’ve pretty much tried to keep the ball and pass it to death most of the past 3 or 4 years, we just weren’t very good at it and we were playing against far far superior opposition than Sheff Weds. Personally, I think he’ll end up dividing opinion, especially if we start losing games in which we have 70% of possession but only 2 shots on target. It will be interesting to see how we go about chasing games under this style, because it’s going to get frustrating if we’re still mincing around with it. That football played with zip and a bit of sharp passing is great, but even City & Arsenal sometimes play it too slow and it gets fucking tedious and extremely frustrating.

Good win against a fucking awful side. We’re going to have to be more ruthless than that against decent opponents, but a win is a win. Second half we were the wrong side of the mincing line, until Stu came on and injected some urgency. It’s going to be a fine balancing act and at times it’s going to be fucking frustrating watching that week in week out. Ive a feeling my blood pressure is going to shoot up regularly this season, particularly when we’re chasing the game.
