Give it a rest, the hatred of the Mail among many on the left is becoming unhinged. You even take the death of our head of state for the past 70 years to put the poison in. I’ve actually just read a half decent article from Martin Samual, which contains a lot of criticism over the decision. Where did I read it? Mail online, perhaps the “grief police” will give him his P45.

I’m a life long republican and believe the FA made the wrong decision, particularly with regard to further down the pyramid. That said, they didn’t have much time to make a decision, and the fact it happened on a Thursday evening probably didn’t help their thought process. Had it been a Monday or Tuesday they could have taken stock and more time to come to a better decision. I do think some people on here are in danger of crossing a line, and a couple of the comments are unfortunate. She was our head of state for 70 years, died as our head of state, and her funeral and period of mourning should reflect that. She wasn’t just some old granny that 99.9% of the population never met.

Football wasn’t cancelled when her dad died. I understand the funeral weekend postponement, but this weekend should go ahead imo.

If true it’s a massive issue. Giles & Shearer have both said it, so maybe there’s something in it. The VAR can basically say “it should be disallowed and here’s the footage to back that opinion up”.

They’re pretty much all Lib Dems anyway. The membership is still comprised of Tories, but apart from a few honourable exceptions, most MP’s haven’t got a conservative bone in their body.

According to John Giles on The Stand podcast, the VAR official decides which footage the referee sees pitch side. Therefore if the VAR thinks it’s a foul he only shows footage that backs this up, rather than another angle which may create more doubt. I don’t know if true, but it could be, there’s so much footage that the ref probably can’t watch every angle of an incident in an acceptable timescale.

I was watching BT and the token bird they had on was arguing with the ex pros that the West Ham goal was a foul and VAR rightly disallowed it. So it’s not just referees that are idiots, some people who make their living being pundits are also clueless. Perhaps BT should suspend her for a game or two.

You can’t score with your hand, whether intentional or not. It doesn’t matter if it’s in a natural position, or any other consideration. If you’re lying unconscious on the 6 yard line and the ball runs over your hand into the goal, it’s ruled out. It’s a factual decision whereas handball in every other circumstance is subjective.
