When judging strikers you need to take into account when they score their goals & the outcome of those goals. There’s stats for everything so there’s got to be stats around how many winning goals they scored, how many saved a point. I’ve seen plenty of blokes who score in easy wins or score in 3-1 loses. Off the top of my head, Danny Ings scored at important times, & scored when we really needed a goal. He was pretty ruthless at big moments.

It happens all the time. Do you really think it comes as a surprise when the player hears a club has made a bid. FFS, how naive are you?
-
What, you really believe that players aren’t tapped up before bids are submitted ? Lol 😂 I guess you still believe in the tooth fairy. My nephew is at a championship club, so I do have a bit of a clue. Other than that, great point well made.
-
Bids for players don’t suddenly come out of nowhere. Clubs only bid for players once the said player has indicated he’s up for a discussion. If JWP or his people had told Villa “fuck off, I’m not interested in the slightest”, they’d not have made the bid.

It’s not for you to decide what is and isn’t in people’s interests. They can decide for themselves. You’ve summed up exactly why lefties can’t win elections.

At least the manager won’t cry if we beat Sheffield Weds

The problem is, when you’re as shite as we appear to be, you need to grind out some results. We just haven’t got the players, mentality, or manager to do that. We’ll probably out play some sides for periods of games, but without Ings are we really going to take advantage of that? When we play badly or are under the cosh, we concede. It’s as simple as that. I hope I’m wrong, but nothing I’ve seen preseason leads me to believe next season will be any different. Ralph needed to realise he dodged a bullet last season and adjust tactically this. I don’t see any sign of this happening, so where are the points coming from? When we play badly we’ll lose, and when we play well we won’t pick up as many points as performance deserves.

Why does no-one ever talk about Colin Clarke?
Lord Duckhunter replied to Midfield_General's topic in The Saints
Boyer is the same with Boscombe supporters as well, Macdougal is a legend there amongst the older blokes but Boyer rarely gets mentioned. People forget he played for England once as well. -
But that’s exactly what they are. When the going gets tough, they hide.

It’s a noddy trophy.

And an absolutely woeful semi final where he preferred Redmond to Adams. He should be sacked for that alone.

I haven’t played much play station, but I’ve been watching finishers since Jimmy Greaves & Denis Law were around. You don’t need XG, PD or BFG to know who is a good striker, who can finish & who can’t. being a good striker isn’t just as much about getting into positions as it is finishing. A striker who keeps getting into good positions but keeps missing, is a shit striker. It’s not complicated

What a load of old pony.

If you could add 2 former Saints player.....
Lord Duckhunter replied to Roo1976's topic in The Saints
This team need sorting out, need some leaders. I’d have Jimmy Case & Chris Nichol -
A “bit” of strength?? We need to toughen up. We need someone who will put himself about , a lot of strength is needed , not a bit.

Says the bloke with his picture.

What a load of old pony. Professionally, he’s better off at Villa than the shit storm at our club. Once he couldn’t get a move to a top top club, he had 2 options. Stay at a club in decline or sign for one that clearly have more prospects of success than us. No doubt he or his agent would have discussed their ambitions and their plans for him together with how they see the club moving forward. What’s our pitch to him, “stay and fight relegation”. Anyone who believes it’s only about the money is deluding themselves.
-
Where? Name names, which posters didn’t want him but are now pissed off we’re not getting him.
-
How does playing in Qatar fit in with teaching the world to sing in perfect harmony.
-
The buck stops with Ralph. If he wanted to he could spend some of the Ings money & saved wages on a keeper. If he thinks we can make & mend that’s down to him.
-
What difference does the position we recruit for make. Have we a budget for specific positions or an overall wage budget? If we sign a new keeper, the 2 existing ones get paid, & if we don’t, the 2 existing ones get paid.
-
But wages aren’t packaged as X amount on keepers, X amount on defenders etc. Whether we sign another keeper or not we still have to pay our existing keepers wages. Unless we’re going to sign a top proven striker, I’d get a decent body in nets & spend less/loan to replace Ings. As I said it’s choices, if lurch or McCarthy cost us this season, that’s down to the choices the manager has made.
-
I can’t believe how relaxed people are about our goalkeeper situation. We need someone decent in nets, we’ve clearly got some dough from the Ings deal so not getting someone else in nets is down to Ralph’s priorities. What’s the point in signing a 15 a season goal scorer if lurch & McCarthy are going to chuck 12 in at the other end?
