  1. Hey Siri. Show me a pious poster stating the bleeding obvious. Some of us got over it years ago & recognise his brilliance. Not liking someone because they knocked you out of the World Cup, is for the play ground.
  2. To people who posted what a great bloke Wilkins was, I merely pointed out that decent folk don’t get in a car when pissed and endanger life. Had the discussion been about Maradona being a nice guy & a decent bloke, you’d have a point. But the discussion was about him punching the ball into the net and why some people can’t forgive this act, when Englishmen do the same week in week out. You’re just trying to muddy the waters because you judge South American’s differently than good old English chaps. There’s a word for that.....
  3. Fringe player that doesn’t appear to be the sort to make waves when left out, who gives his all, is still quickish, strong, gets about and can play up top or wide. Are people really expecting our squad players to be much better. You can’t just fill the bench with promising nippers, and for all we know he could be a decent role model in training and around the club. He hasn’t really done a lot because he has only had a dozen or so minutes here and there. He’s not taking the piss. So, no, not a mistake. .
  4. It’s nothing to do with fitness and everything to do with quality off the bench. Had we lost our keeper, we’d have had Lurch in nets, they had the latest English big thing. They bought on a world class finisher, we brought on Shane Long. Better players keep the ball better, preserving energy. We have to work like fuck at times, because we give it away cheaply.
  5. Most of them work at home wankers who won’t lose their jobs because of the lockdown. Obviously they’ll be the first standing with the great unwashed when the policies they support cause mass unemployment. It’ll all be the Tories fault then.
  6. Cloughie at his peak was far and away the best value for money. I liked Shanks as well & Tommy Doc earnt by respect with his classy reaction to the ‘76 cup final. Hated Venables, didn’t pick Matt in ‘96 but also a cocky twat whose record is bigged up by his buddies in the media.
  7. Maybe that’s why he’s so bitter about it. As the years have gone on, the people involved have become more deranged over it. It’s as if Maradona cost us the World Cup, whereas the truth is we were only playing them at that stage because we finished below Morocco in the qualifying group. The whole Robson era is bizarre, just because he was a nice bloke history has been rewritten. Maradona cost us in ‘86 & we were damn unlucky in ‘90, Gazza tears and all that. The truth is somewhat different. Robson was in charge during 4 major tournaments . In finals we only ma aged to beat Egypt, Poland & Paraguay in 90 mins, together with Cameroon & Belgium in extra time. We won 0 games at the euro finals, and his record is ;1 failure to qualify, 1 quarter final, 1 didn’t get out of group & 1 semi final . In any other major football nation that would be considered a failure, but not here. Nice bloke he may have been, but he was a bloody average England manager.
  8. The interviewer hit the nail on the head. It is the premier league (the 20 clubs) that sanctioned the midday ko slots, obviously to take advantage of the Asian market. The big clubs want it both ways, they want the money, but also the control over the TV fixture list. The tv companies aren’t going to give up the choice of games, whilst still paying top dollar. It is ridiculous that teams playing in Europe feature in the early game, but it was their decision to sell the right to stop it.
  9. Exactly . England’s pathetic 34 year whinge is summed up by Terry Butcher, who still can’t get over it. A few years back I saw an interview with him in which he called Maradona all the names under the sun for cheating. Going on to discuss the second goal, he admitted that it was genius, but complained that Peter Reid or someone should have taken him out on the half way line. The irony of moaning about Maradona cheating and then moaning that the English players didn’t cheat 4 mins later , seemed lost on him.
  10. I don’t recall you getting as worked up about an Englishmen cheating.
  11. I’m no fan of the BBC, but credit where it’s due . BT gave me a free 6 month trial of Brit Box and a week into it, it’s looks superb. Don’t know how much is itv/bbc but I’ve watched some episodes of Frost, Long good Friday & some of “ Our friends in the north” already. Whether the novelty will wear off I don’t know, but looks excellent value and I’ll defo be coughing up in 6 months time. Decent BBC service paid for by subscription, there’s an idea.
  12. Lol. Do you throw your top hat in the air when a goal is scored. You must think everybody you’ve ever watched is a “cheating cunt”, as every player that’s played the past 50 years has cheated or attempted to cheat. I’m “embarrassed & ashamed” that you support the same club as me. Most “reasonable “ people would have gone wild with celebrations had Linekar scored a goal like that in the same game. You’re weird.....
  13. So you think England players didn’t cheat, that the players in that 11 wouldn’t have done exactly the same thing. You’re deluded man, what do you think they are Corinthian Causals calling fouls upon themselves. Jack Charlton did it in a WC semi final, but the ref spotted that. Are you judging players morals on the ability of the ref to spot the infringement. The English have a warped attitude to cheating, always have. I played amateur football abroad in the early 80’s in a league containing mainly Hispanic teams. They dived , conned the ref, were sneaky bastards, and argued every decision. We played “fairly”, but gave them a bit of clog, left our foot in and generally played like “men”. We hated their cheating, but here’s the thing, they hated ours. We considered roughing them up as part of the game, they considered exaggerating fouls & diving as part of it. Neither is right, one is not more moral than the other just because it’s more manly , it’s all a form of cheating. If Terry Butcher deliberately went through the back of Maradona & left something on him, is that not cheating in the same way handling the ball is.
  14. The bbc news concentrated solely on that game as if it was his whole career. I love the way the narrative is how that goal cost us. Knowing Maradona had that goal been disallowed, he’d probably have knocked another great one in to make up for it. As I posted earlier Jackie Charlton did a blatant handball in 66 every bit as bad as Maradona, he got caught, Maradona didn’t, yet there’s only 1 “cheating cunt”.
  15. Wasted talent? Interesting definition seeing as he won The World Cup, was also a runner up. Won the Uefa Cup, Serie A twice as well as Spanish cup & super cup . Is generally believed to be one of the greatest players to ever kick a ball, not just by most supporters of the era, but by people like Pele himself. If that’s wasted, I dread to think what you consider fulfilling their talent. As for “on a good day, he was excellent “ , bit like writing “Lennon & McCartney wrote the odd decent tune”. Or Don Bradman made a few runs once he played himself in. Every single England player complaining to the ref would have done the exact same thing and every single England fan still crying about it would have cheered the goal.
  16. Don’t talk rubbish man. Which English player has ever admitted cheating. People like Butcher still crying about it are pathetic, as if they’re whiter than white.
  17. Best player in my lifetime, absolute genius. What he did with Argentina in 86 & 90 amazing, same with Napoli. The English attitude towards hand of god is pathetic imo. Jack Charlton committed just a blatant a handball in ‘66 and nobody says a thing. Every single English player would have done the same, none of them would have asked the ref to disallow it and it’s down to the officials 100%. Everyone that plays the game cheats.
  18. I welcome the Xmas restrictions in the ale house. December is a pain in the arse with a load of amateur drinkers getting in the way. A permanent end to Xmas parties and drinks would actually be a good thing. I’d have thought New Years Eve will be a bigger mixing issue particularly with the sweaties & nippers.
  19. What a load of old pony. Who decides who receives treatment. The Government, maybe a quango, what about local GP’s. In your glorious world of responsibility, why should Keith Richards taxes fund the NHS, when you won’t let him use it? He probably doesn’t use it, but I do, and I drink about 25 units of LEGAL alcohol a week, does this disqualify me from using the NHS? What about my snap dragon, I presume you’re ok with her working in it, treating you, but because she likes a noggin you’d ban her from actually using it.
  20. You’ve been playing too much monopoly.
  21. I don’t think anyone is arguing with that, the debate is around the definition of “safe”.
  22. What I’m saying is, if you deny vaccine refuseniks Covid treatment, to be consistent, you need to deny smokers lung cancer treatment or piss artists liver treatment. I don’t think anyone should be denied any treatment, but the original poster didn’t . He thinks people who refuse the vaccine should be left to fend for themselves.
  23. What about people who smoke. They know they’ve got a higher risk of getting lung cancer, should they sign a waiver. What about fat bastards, or piss artists. The more we spend treating them, the less money available to treat righteous people, like yourself, who fall ill.
  24. Since the great lady all we’ve had is a string of europhile pinkos. Major, Blair & Cameron are the main culprits and they’re in the same bag as yourself. Apart from May, it’s been vote blue or red, get pink. Who do you think has rewarded corporatism and the wealthy, people with pretty much the same politics as you, that’s who.
  25. That’s the problem with lefties like you, obsessed with equality. You’d rather everyone was equally poor, than some richer than others. As the great lady said, you don’t make the poor richer, by making the rich poorer. China is far far more unequal than its ever been, is that a good thing or a bad thing? By your measure, it was better when nearly everyone was dirt poor, because it was a more equal society. So what if the rich have got richer. The vast majority of them have earnt it and the average man now has a lifestyle way beyond what he did in the 1970’s. Society is not perfect and they’ll always be people falling between the cracks, it’s how Governments take care of these people that really matters, not how they contain and shackle the rich.
