  1. Geoffrey Boycott always says that in sport you should do what the opposition least want you to do when making decisions. What would Martin O Neil prefer, to know that Adam definitely won't play or to be left wondering whether he'll make the line up, same with jol on boxing day. I've no doubt they would rather know than not know. In the modern game sides are coached and coached to death, maybe too much so, but sides will definitely make plans around defending and whether Adam plays will make a difference. It may only make a tiny difference, but tiny differences can make a huge impact. After the 6-1 Manchester derby Ferguson said that Utd should have shut up shop at 3-1 down, took the 3-1 defeat and moved on , instead of chasing the game. A small detail, but they lost the league on goal difference. Any advantage however slight can add up, surely knowing a sides captain and one of it's stars is out, is a slight advantage, from having to guess.
  2. Shouldn't compare Paisley with the other 2, he was never a member of any terriorist organsation. The reason the soliders are being hung out to dry is very simple. It's all part of the surrender terms (sorry peace procees).
  3. As Davd Davis said on yesterdays Daily Politics, a defence lawyer would have a field day if this evidence was brought before a judge. From watching the cctv there was clearly no crowd, there was clearly not enough time for Mitchell to say all that was claimed in the report. It is also a fact that an officer not even there claimed he was and was a member of the public, it was also a fact that the police log book was leaked to the press. Mitchell has always claimed he swore but never said pleb, the only claim that he said pleb was from a discredited police source. How on earth anybody can reach the conclusion that he did say pleb is beyond me. There is not a court in the land that would back the police in this instance.
  4. I think the beeching report was one of the biggest balls Ups this country has made in the last 100 years. Instead of closing branch lines we should have been extending them and modernising. I am against government getting involved with the running of most things , but the transport system and infrastructure is one thing they should be running, even in a "hands off" way. To get people out of cars and onto trains is a no brainer
  5. It's pretty serious IMO. Police making things up to bring down a cabinet minister, and in Downing Street FFS. Left or right, everybody should be concerned about that. Mitchell is the worst type of Tory, a wet Camerony who once said right wing things to get selected, but since he's turned all Ted Heathism. However, forget about the personalities involved, if the police would fit up a cabinet minister, what hope for the likes of you and me. There are thousends of decent coppers, but the leadership and the behaviour of the minority taint the force (or service as I believe the lefties call it). The police govern by consent, and yet bit by bit they are losing respect and public confidence. What we need is some old fashioned coppers leading them and not a load of pinkies who think they're social workers.
  6. You seem incapable of debating without trying to start an arguement, you've even started when I agree with you. In case you are so simple and dont get what I'm saying. I think £27.50 is good value and I think it's good that £2.50 of that goes stright on our bottom line. That is better than selling them for £27.50 with no "tt".
  7. I think £25 a ticked is good value, and had they sold them for £27.50 and no "ticket tax", I would have thought the same. This way the £2.50 is pure profit for Saints and not split with Chelsea or the FA.
  8. Nokia 610 a pretty decent phone for a nipper. My 2 are on payg virgin media cutomer addict tarrif , pretty good. Piece of mind that they are contactable overrides any other consideration in my book. They are 14 and 12 and I want them to have phones, its not spoiling them at all.
  9. I go out drinking plenty thanks, but having a nice piece of "flange" at home pick pubs for atmosphere and standard of beer. The said establishment was busy, but you didn't have to wait too long, was full of friendly locals and had a fantastic choice of real ale, reasonably priced. I met two of my muckers who I hadn't seen for near on 20 years so a good time was had by all. Just a shame the match got in the way of a good booze up. It went so well that we all agreed to meet up again during the summer, this time with our flanges in tow. I got the feeling that you weren't too impressed as you made some comment about middle aged men and no "flange". That is the reason i mentioned you, because i felt you were wrong about this great pub.
  10. Exactly, this could be extremely serious a police conspiracy to unseat a cabinet minister, leaks to the press and an officer alleged to have posed as a member of the public, imagine if it was a Murdoch journo smearing a leftie, there would be calls for a "judge led enquiry". What about the police trade union (sorry federation) delegates who demanded a meeting and then told the world Mitchell had not satisfied them, lets hope if this does play out that Mitchell was framed, they have the decency to apologise, as I'm sure red ed will.
  11. This, without a doubt.
  12. Everybody has a price and if we could get in a younger, better player,I would go for it. If not, he stays. To hang onto him for sentimental reasons is barmy. It all depends who the replacement is, before we decided whether it's a good move or not. He's 30 odd with a handful of PL games under his belt, not Wayne Rooney.
  13. The Liverpool game was disapointing because we didn't show up, I was more sick leaving that one than the drubbings at Arsenal and West ham . Had we started like we did at rangers we would have got something, they were there for the taking and it doesn't surprise me that someone (villa in this case) done them, they are pretty toothless. That said they were on the back of a decent run and beat West ham without their main man, away as well. Personally I think Adkins lost the plot at Liverpool, and that filtered down to the players. However to use villa's great result today as a tool to dig at the club is pathetic. Lubs have off days, managers have off days, other ****ty sides sometimes win where we have lost. Get over it... Would have loved rangers to have chucked jt away today but they hung on. Pretty neutral set of results, game in hand don't mean a lot as it's Chelsea away. Next week is a must win imo
  14. Turkish is like a 15 year old arguing that because his team beat Man C, it makes them the best in England. Villa were poor at SMS, we were poor at Anfield. Norwich were great against Man Utd and beat them, does that make our point against them a great one, does if you follow Turkish's logic. I'm surprised anyone with such a child like view of football posts on a grown up forum.
  15. Texted him when she got home.
  16. I didn't think I was breaking the speed limit but I saw a flash and was about 80% sure it was a camera, but could not be sure. Was meeting a guy who lives nearby so when I turned up I asked him if there was any cameras near where I was flashed. His reply was "yes there was one there today as my Mrs drove by during the day and texted me to be careful". I was hoping that maybe the flash had gone off and no film or something, but the dreaded NIP duly arrived. I was just about to fill it in, until I noticed the timings were wrong. I think Turkish has made me look at the morals of this. He is correct, I do not want to lie to the police. Therefore I will return the NIP correctly filled in with the answer that nobody was driving the car at 11am that morning. If they subsequently ask me if I was speeding at any other time during the day, I will say I am unsure but if they have any evidence that I was, I will gladly accept that I was. There are obviously rules around when NIP's can be served (within 14 days of offense) and provided these rules are adhered to, will willingly pay the £60 and have 3 points placed on my licence. To me there can be no grey area, If I broke the speed limit, even by 1 mile I can be done, and if they follow the procedure laid out in the RTA 1988 regarding S172 I will have do my duty as an honest citizen and pay the fine. .My only duty at present is to advise them who was driving at 11am.
  17. I was caught up by the St Leonards hotel, going from Poole to Southampton direction. I believe that because of the local outcry the Holes Bay camera has been switched off for speeding now and only there for jumping the red light. Funny thing is, since this happened I've been observing the limit 100% and causing back ups galore. Going up from Poole to Fleetsbridge on the holes bay road last night at 50 some bloke was right on my tail, getting well flustered. Cars on the inside lane going about 40mph, me overtaking at 48 and him behind nearly having a heart attack.
  18. don't you think the blatant money making scheme dressed up as a road safety issue highlights how "society has changed". The bit of road I was flashed on was a 60 for a number of years,2 years ago it becomes a 50, low and behold it's now a prime spot for cameras. A coincidence, I dint think so. Here in Poole the holes bay camera brought in more revenue that every other Dorset cameras added together. Guess what the permitted speed was also lowered prior to camera being sited . Again a blatant money making "safety " concern. Yes, I speed and know I need to slow down, but in 32 years of driving the number of accidents I've had stands at zero. A policeman I played football with once told me that if everybody opted for court and didn't take the offer, the magistrates courts would clog up and the cost would be unsustainable. They would have to set the cameras to not catching so many people. It is not and never has been a safety issue. It is a scam to make money. My mate has a company car, if he drives over 85 his company find out (god knows how). If it was a safety issue all new cars could be fitted with a tracking type device that could be checked, coppers wouldn't let speeding moterists off (as they do) and people would all potter about like Sunday drivers.
  19. So you suggest I go down to the cop shop and tell them "I think I was speeding at 9pm on xxx date"? I doubt there is even a process for self confession of speeding offenses. Most likely they'd think I was taking the **** and tell me to do one.
  20. Sometimes people aren't guilty. If I'm accused of speeding at 11am, then I'll fall into the not guilty pile. You seem to be saying that details of the time a speeding offense is committed is irrelavant. Perhaps the police should send out tickets to everyone on the basis that they would have broken the speed limit somewhen the past 6 months. "We have no evidence, but I'm sure you've broken the speed limit at some time, therefore please pay £60 fine and have 3 points." Would be a good money making scheme. Your moral stance only comes into play if they have evidence that I was speeding at 9pm and then charge me.
  21. I did not commit a crime at 11am, I was working in my drive. Now unless you feel that everybody who goes over the speed limit, should contact the police and confess, why on earth should I tell them that I did speed at 9pm? If I receive a NIP asking who was driving at 9PM, I will fill it out and accept the punishment.
  22. no , car was with me all day, I had the day off and was doing some work in the garden. My neighbour will confirm, I've already spoken to him. As someone said earlier I'm sure the photo will show it was dark when taken. I'm pretty sure I'll get off if the camera was set up wrong as they have no evidence i was speeding at 9pm , they may not even know the time i drove through there, and I'm certainly not going to tell them. My only doubt is if there was an admin error and the photo has the correct time on. They have evidence , it's just a question of whether the summons is invalid due to nip having wrong time. Shame there's no lawyers posting on here, as nodoubt I'll cock something up that'll come back and bite me in the arse.
  23. Mrs duck has made a good point to me tonight over this. Had I not seen the flash that evening I would now be questioning mrs duck as to wtf she was doing in my car driving down that road when she told me she had a course at work. Therefore if they come back and admit they got the time wrong I am going today play the "this mistake put a strain on my marrige and effected my right to a family life" card", writing a heartfelt story of mistrust, upset and recriminations. They may drop the case.
  24. Thanks for the replies, Wow, I thought everybody drove over the limit every now and again, but we do seem to have some very law abiding citizens on here. Hats off to them, but unfortunately I do go over the limitt occasionally and if caught would willingly accept my punishment. I was not however driving over the limit at 11am, so dont feel I should accept that. If anyone was pulled over by a copper and accused of breaking the limit, when they knew full well they weren't. Would they say " I wasn't then officer, but 10 hours ago I did do so, so can you charge me with that? My gut feeling is that it will boil down to whether the camera had the wrong time on it or whether a clerk made an error on the NIP. If the camera was wrong, surely I can defend myself on the grounds of "what else was wrong with that camera". If the clerk made an error, I guess it'll be whether the cort consider that material to the case. Either way, all I'm going to do is send back NIP with statement that nobody was driving car at that time and see what happens. I would be interested if this is a regular thing and if anyone else has had the same situation.
  25. I wonder if anyone has any advise or has heard of similar to my situation. Got caught by a mobile Gatso the other night. Saw the flash and waited for the dreaded NIP to land on the door step. It duly came yesterday and as I was just about to fill it in noticed that they had the timings all wrong. Not by the odd hour, but by fully 10 hours. I was driving at night, but the NIP had me doing so in the morning. They have requested certain information as to who was driving the car at 11am that morning. 100% the car was not on the road at that hour and was parked in my drive. I will therefore wait 14 days, so a new NIP will be out of the time limit and advise them that I do not know who was driving and have a witness (my neighbour) that the car was in the drive at that time. Clearly it is not my place to do the police's job for them, so I am not going to answer a question they haven't asked ie who was driving at 9pm that night. Bearing in mind I already have points, I'm not going to go all moral and "do the right thing". Has anyone heard of this before and do you think I'll get off. Mrs Duck thinks they'll just say "ok, see you in court", as the NIP is just an offer of settlement in return for avioding court? I'm not so sure, as the only evidence they have is clearly wrong. Or maybe a clerk typed the NIP wrong ( I was led to believe they were automated).I dont want to get extra points/fine for taking the ****. But the allegation is I was speeding at 11am, and I am innocent of that.
