Good point actually. Credit where it's due. He has acted quickly and decisively and made what seems to be a very promising appointment. I haven't been a fan, but if we don't recognise when he does something right, then the criticism is a little hollow.

I'm really not managing not to read it as Hazelnut.

Aside from us not having an English manager since Adkins, that is a very odd way to categorise managers. Not "prefers attacking/defensive" play, or likes to work on fitness, progressive coaching methods, squad rotation, etc, but deciding the main factor is ethnicity? I actually don't think that's the main way "our fans" categorise managers at all, but if that's the main differentiation between Puel and Hughes in your mind, it says more about you.

At least he seems interesting. I'm okay with Saints losing, it's pretty standard, but I just don't want dullness.
-
Funny it happened when he had just started putting out a more sensible team. He should have acted waaaay sooner.

Sarcasm, skate in hiding, or typo?

I would hope no-one especially dislikes any of the players unless they've had personal dealings with them. Perhaps more of an adult discussion would be "Which player is not giving 100%?" or at a push, "Which player's inclusion has the most negative effect on the team and why?".

Romeu is now an improvement on Wanyama
norwaysaint replied to Saint Without a Halo's topic in The Saints
I have watched very little football this season, but the dropping of Romeu was one of the few managerial decisions that went along with what people on here were saying at the time. For several matches people said he was poor and needed dropping and then that happened. I honestly have no personal opinion on the matter as I haven't seen enough, but this time MH actually followed the overwhelming calls for a player to be dropped. Maybe we're spelling or pronouncing Hoedt wrongly for him... -
The ‘worst’ Premier League XI of the season so far

I'd love to get Clyne back. -
Yoshida has never been a regular starter and it's often commented on that he regularly makes errors that lead to goals. I think Hughes probably didn't play him for the simple reason that he's always been a squad player that has rarely commanded a regular starting place in the last six years. He's just not what Hughes sees as a player to build a team around. This is much more sensible than Les Reed personally ruling that he shouldn't play. The problem with these silly stories with no foundation is that they get repeated often enough that they are eventually just accepted as "what everyone knows". Hughes rates Hoedt, but not Yoshida.
-
Have people completely invented a story about Les Reed blocking Yoshida playing? How strange.

I really don't know enough about the other managers to say much, but those favourites are pretty dire. I'd prefer Rodgers over most of them. Surely we aren't a bad club for an aspiring club to come to though? We spend enough money, we have players with more potential than they've shown. We have a decent infrastructure and we did well recently enough that our reputation hasn't entirely gone to ****. We just need someone to come in and demand more of the players and stop persisting with those that underperform, until they get the message.

I don't really know anything about the guy, so I just googled him and this was the first hit. Seems reasonable to me and quite clearly states he doesn't hate the British. Hope that helps clear it up for you https://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/james-mcclean-explains-why-he-refuses-to-wear-remembrance-day-poppy-on-west-brom-shirt-a6716081.html

All these people upset, offended and moaning about whether or not someone else wears a poppy, bunch of whining snowflakes in my opinion.

Says a lot about the faith we have in our current team, that we'd prefer to field players that we know definitely wouldn't be good enough to survive. Neither team is exactly bristling with committed, passionate players with a bit of bite.
-
Typically: Niemi Dodd/Kenton-Lundekvam-Jakobssen.Higginbotham Fernandes-Oakley-Prutton-Svensson Crouch-Phillips Manager: Wigley/Redknapp Which team would you have more faith, that one, or a typical saints team from this season?
-
Obafemi to get a ten minute appearance against the tightest defence in the league, then be dropped for the foreseeable future as he had his chance and didn't produce.

Disappointing so many people just listed four palyers without trying to build them into a credible team, which is kind of the point. I think McCarthy Cedric Toby Yoshida Bertrand Schneiderlin PEH Redmond Lemina MLT Lambert Ings I think when talking about at their peak for saints, it's hard not to include MLT. I mean, he may not always have performed consistently and lost pace in later years, but MLT at his very best? Come on... -
Sam Gallagher - Joins Blackburn: Official
norwaysaint replied to Sergei Gotsmanov's topic in The Saints
Exactly. I don't think anyone has suggested that he is going to be a new star striker and wow us all. We'd just be happy to have a couple of average strikers up front that will score one maybe just every three, even four games. That's better than we are using now and seeing as he's already at the club, better to try him that splash out on another Carrilo. -
I'll be amazed if we score and if they get fewer than 4.

Surprised people chose Bale. Was he really THAT good for us? He was a promising youngster playing in the championship and only played left back for us, one of the few areas we don't really need to replace. -

norwaysaint replied to norwaysaint's topic in The Saints
Bale was just a promising young left back when he was at saints. I don't think he would have added that much now, better to stick with Bertrand who is one of the few quality players we have. Add the quality elsewhere. It took him a couple of seasons to really break through at Spurs. -
We've done it before, but for fun. Imagine you had a time machine to bring back four players in their SAINTS' prime (Therefore Shearer, Bale, Walcott etc at the level they reached while they played for us). The manager can be one of your picks. What would be your team for next week?
-
At the moment there's not much positive on the pitch. No goals, no inspiration, no creativity, no morale etc. But some of these players have been part of good teams, either previous saints teams or teams elsewhere. So who do you think is worth persisting with as they may be good again? And who has no future with us at all?
