  1. Wouldn't actually be that strange. They would mostly have Boris as first choice or not want him at all. The early front runner usually loses too, remember Portillo being a near certainty?
  2. Just discovered that Skacel only retired about a week ago. His time with us seems like a lifetime ago.
  3. Whats the youtube channel, non UK resident here. I can get it on Norwegian TV, but wouldn't mind an English commentary
  4. Anyone got a stream for tonights match?
  5. Exactly this."Outstanding" is now the word used to describe any player in our team who isn't poor on a fairly regular basis, which, in fairness, does make them stand out. Redmond and JWP have been our better players this season, but being our better players really doesn't indicate they are ready to play regularly for England. I guess with them being among the best couple of English players in their positions we'll see some huge bids for them this summer though, right?
  6. This is crazy. While JWP and Redmond have had decent seasons in a poor and struggling saints teams, they really aren't international quality. They haven't even been that highly praised on here. They are just the best we have, which doesn't really mean that much. Years ago, when we had a good squad, the likes of Lallana, Lambert, Clyne, JRod, Shaw etc might expect a chance, because they were the better players in a good team that knew how to play. Now we are expecting players who just play reasonably well in a **** team to get more international recognition. We can hope they might get their chance, but it's hardly a miscarriage of justice that a couple of fairly hit and miss players with quite average ability aren't getting called up for the final squad. Have you noticed that the bigger teams aren't trying desperately to poach JWP and Redmond to replace the players we thing he should replace? Maybe if they excel for more than large parts of one season.
  7. Do people really think that jwp and Redmond are that good? To me it feels more like they are quite average players who have stood out in a very poor saints squad. We didn't really rate either that highly when we had decent players around. They've both generally been criticised in the past.
  8. Yes! People who drive larger vehicles like big 4WDs should take a separate test. If you aren't able to park your vehicle between the lines, it's too much car for you and you aren't able to control it properly.
  9. People who use the word "myself" instead of "I" or "me". "David and myself are going to London." "It was just Dave and myself." ****ing idiots. People who start every other sentence with the word "So". (That'd be everyone who ever appeared on Pointless.)
  10. All depends. We have a top half coach, but we have a dreadful squad. All of our best players are distinctly average. With new players, somewhere mid table, with largely the same team, lower half, probably avoiding relegation. There's only so far you can go with a team like ours.
  11. We don't have one player I'd be that unhappy about losing. Not one. I've read occasionally people saying that PEH/JWP/Bednarek/Redmond are good, but they aren't good. We know they aren't good, we've had them a while and they have never stood out until the rest of the team was sufficiently poor to make "average" look good. Ralph has very little to work with and I can't imagine he'll be able to rebuild enough to make a huge difference next season. This is going to take a bit just to raise us from a poor team to an average team.
  12. Before anyone gets too clever about their preferences, remember that the job a manager does at one club does not equal the job they might have done at another. Strachan was good for us, awful everywhere else, Koeman was good for us, a disaster at Everton, Burley was great at Ipswich, a failure with us, Redknapp has unarguably done well at certain other clubs, not so much for us. You never really know how a manager will work out and we can't predict it from what's happened in their careers elsewhere.
  13. I think we actually have one of the weakest squads in the PL, so it's not too surprising. There are very few good players in our team now that players we know are only average, JWP, Redmond, Yoshida, Bednarek, Hojbjerg, Romeu are now the ones who stand out as better. RH is a decent manager who is able to give them a plan and get them performing closer to their potential, but over 90 minutes, a better team is going to eventually get enough opportunities that they might score, especially as the game wears on and they get used to how we are playing.
  14. Just checked, he's tied with JWP, both have been with us 8 years.
  15. Is Stephens the player we've had for the longest now? He's been at the club ages.
  16. Not long ago I would have been pleased, as we were just on a steady path of deterioration. Now things have been improving, I didn't want any major upheaval that might **** things up again. Hopefully it won't have a big effect.
  17. Posts about Yoshida vary across the season from that he's a great asset to the club and should be a starter, to that he's a liability and we should get rid of him. One thing that is certain is that although he's been a pretty loyal club member, saints fans (or fans in general) will never stay loyal to a player that has a run of bad form.We always expect loyalty from our players, but if they make a few bad errors or their performance drops, we no longer care about history and we should "get rid in the summer". That's football I guess.
  18. Yeah, them scoring was a rare event. Who was it that scored our goal again?
  19. Let's not over-do it lads. Haven't most of us made negative remarks about our jobs on a bad day, despite having no real desire or intention to change them or walk away. I'm glad I won't be held to account every time I moan about a job which I actually generally really enjoy. Of course he notices it more than we do. It happens specifically when he is there and is focused towards him, whereas for most of us, it would be easy to miss. It doesn't have to be much, he'll notice it still and remember, this is abuse from the customers when he goes to work. He clearly successfully ignores it pretty much all of the time, or he wouldn't be succeeding at the top level, but it must occasionally make him irritated that he has to. He probably would say most days that he loves being a footballer and knows he's lucky.
  20. He was one of those who showed no fighting spirit at all after we were relegated and was just going through the motions until we managed to get him off the books.
  21. I have to admit that I grew up having no real education about this or any part of what was really happening in Nortern Ireland and why. We were just led to believe that the IRA were evil people killing good honest British people for no good reason and that the British were just trying to keep law and order. It was years later I actually studied what had happened to the Irish people in Ulster for so many years and what was still happening. Knowledge was given in a frighteningly one sided way. I will always be impressed by the people of Northern Ireland on both sides who have been strong enough to keep peace and try to move on, when they see the people responsible for the deaths of loved ones all around them. It has to be that way though. Anyone who still thinks that one side was good and the other side bad in Northern Ireland really needs to learn a bit more about the situation.
  22. Let's remember that it was only recently we weren't sure JWP was good enough to start for saints. A good run of form makes us take more notice and appreciate him, but it might take longer for others to rate him as highly. Southgate chose players he felt had performed well for him in the England set up before, I guess.
  23. Lineker scoring for Leicester andf Barnes scoring for Watford in the second. Incredible the amount of class in our team, Wright, Mills, Shilton, Moran, Williams, Armstrong, Golac, Wallace, Holmes, these were top class players, although obviously at varying stages of their careers.
  24. People going on about Shearer's debut forget that over the following years he scored very few goals for us per appearance. He was a raw, developing player and the real scoring ability came later. It's not going to develop in Long now, but it could for Obafemi.
  25. What we generally say we want from a midfielder is that they do the simple things well. It seems like he can do that.
