Yes, no manager has completed three seasons for us in the PL era. Only Koeman, Branfoot and Jones completed two seasons I think. Amazing to think none of Strachan, Burley and Adkins finished two whole seasons. It makes you think we should be more patient with managers, then you remember who we just got rid of... Using "PL era" as a convenient point to look at, before anyone starts getting upset about "football not starting in 1992"
-
Who was the last manager to complete three seasons with us? Chris Nicholl? So no point complaining about contract length, he probably won't see it out. Happy if he can just do the simple things well (fitness, right players in the right positions, simple tactical awareness and ability to change style when needed) and bring some stability.

You'll have to enlighten me about the Sportpesa incident.

Hi, interesting. Can you explain the tribal rioting situation at football matches for me?
-
Buying in a goal scoring striker has so far got us Austin, who doesn't get enough goals, Carillo, who doesn't get enough goals, Gabbiadini, who doesn't get enough goals and Long, who doesn't get enough goals. It's true that Gallagher might also not get enough goals, but let's take a look first. It's not as if buying in a striker has been a guaranteed more effective option so far. It's hit and miss (no pun intended), including for Gallagher. I'd like to see him and Gabbiadini together. Doesn't mean that we can't buy in a new striker, but let's not decide in advance that the new striker is a definite improvement.
-
Surprised so many think Gallagher should go. I'd like to see him given a proper chance. Looking at the lessons we've learned from transfers, he's no less likely to get goals than foreign imports who seem more glamorous. Let's see what we have before we take a punt on someone else.

For a club coming off the upward curve with Adkins, Poch and Koeman, Hughes would seem an unambitious and unexciting appointment. Coming after the death of creativity and the slump into poor morale, motivation, fitness and tactical awareness that were Puel and Pellegrino, Hughes is a welcome step back to steady, competent management that we can build on.
-
A lot of players deserve to prove themselves under Hughes, so maybe not so many out of the door too quickly. So far it's just been about players able to do a quick job under pressure to survive. That might still not be the best team we can produce with the players we have, once they are fit and given motivation and he's spent time with them. I really hope Gallagher gets a chance to prove himself though, even if he can'tr cut it at that level, I'd like to try him before turning to unpredictable foreign imports.

Can those who want Yoshida out explain why. And who they expect to get of the same level who won't make a fuss about being third or fourth choice, will always work his socks off and isn't just here for a paycheck? Don't expect loyalty from players if that's how you want them treated.
-
I'm really surprised I see so many people wanting Yoshida out. Where on Earth would we find a better centre back who wouldn't complain when he has to sit on the bench, yet isn't lazy and only there for the patcheck? I think we've been really lucky having such a decent player as back up who always puts in a shift when called on. Definitely keep. We won't improve on someone to fill his role.
-
I know what you mean, but that harrying and pace has had very little end result for us. There are players in that mold who can score goals too.
-
If it weren't for the fact he's probably on huge money, I'd keep Forster. I would expect him to be very determined to win back the spot that he had been so complacent about. I expect him to go somewhere else to rebuild his confidence and career though. Definitely keep Hughes and let him build the team his way. I'd try to get rid of Long and Carrillo. This non scoring striker thing has been killing us. I think there's a place for Austin, Tadic and Gabbiadini once Hughes starts to really make the team his.
-
Urgh...
-
Never thought we gave him a fair chance to find his form again after injury. It took him a whole year to settle in when he arrived. During their first years with us, Ramirez had a better scoring record for us than JRod, but over time and given games, JRod became more effective.
-
Bridge was definitely better for us than Bale. I'm not sure Shearer was one of our best strikers for similar reasons of peaking much later.
-
I'm guessing the OP has literally no idea how Kreuger affects the team and which positives or negatives he can take responsibility for. But this is life, people like a knee jerk reaction and to have one simple factor to blame, because they can't manage the "It's a bit more complicated than that" reality. This is how we get things like EDL and Brexit, people like a simple target for their frustration.

Anyone got a stream?

After reading the thread showing his actual achievements as a manager, I'm actually really pleased about this. For some reason I had underestimated his record. It seems he was probably a better candidate than Silva.

Mark Hughes: Season-by-season breakdown
norwaysaint replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Sounds like he has a better record and pedigree than Silva then. Still not sure why Silva was such a popular option. -
I am put off him by how he was a big wage signing for us who had no passion or interest on the pitch, but I dislike him more for being unable to get rid of him and his big wages and useless stats on Championship Manager 99-00. That team was impossible to save without serious cheating. For these reasons, I'm not keen on him as a saints manager.
-
I don't know anything about Silva. Is he any good? Can someone give me an idiot's guide to why he's such a stand out popular choice?
-
What positive things does the club have going for it at the moment? Put them in order here.
-
What are your top five things to moan about at the moment, be it particular players, formation, tactics, staff, food, fans, stadium, transfer policy, whatever? Put them in order of crappiness.

Bring back four Saints players and a manager to save our season.

I honestly think that most managers, including Porch, would leave the promising 18 year old left back Gareth Bale, with only championship experience, on the bench in favour of England international Ryan Bertrand. -

Change Lallana for Schneiderlin at his best and that would be pretty good, although I might be tempted by Lambert a his best instead of Mane.
