A bad day at the office, f'sure. But with Saggy Chops' thumbs up to Mad Milan at the end, it was clearly a case of a traitor's work well done. And remember in that season we beat the Cheats twice (once in the league and once in the cup), and with 3 points out of 6 we did a lot better against your lot than against most of the other PL teams that year.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Plonking your money on a roulette wheel (generally regarded as a sucker's game) is a much better investment, and infinitely more entertaining, than flushing it down the toilet known as Cheats FC.
-
The same as the team in 7th, but with better goal difference, and winning the playoff final.
-
I'd prefer it to be the last match of the season, in which a 4-1 drubbing (with a legally assembled squad) secures our first place, condemns them to relegation, whilst the crying blue few are forced to remain in ground as the Saints parade the champions trophy in front of them.

At least now Fred Dinenage and co. won't be putting the temperature as -10 over Southampton. Mind you, they may soon have to put -30 (or lower) over Cheatsville.

If Saints had got only 22 points then they would have gone into the Walsall match at best 1 point ahead of Huddersfield (possibly 2 behind them). Huddersfield would then have had a realistic chance of promotion, and would have gone all out for the win in their last match, and most likely have beaten a crap Brentford team (rather than play a 4-4 friendly, with both eyes on the playoffs). So, even though we'll never know for certain, I would say that we needed 24 points for promotion (losing to rather than beating Walsall), which is roughly half way between 20 and 28.

Lawrence: “If the gaffer can bring in the players he wants over the summer then we’ve got every chance next season.” Yes Liam, and if my Auntie had balls she'd be my uncle.

I agree, it's hard to imagine the slimy Cheats getting a points deduction. Even in the worst case scenario for them they'd probably find a way out of it. But Chinny pulling the plug, asset stripping everything bar the kitchen sink, a complete liquidation of the cesspit of a club, the razing of Krap Nottarf followed by the building of flats on its extremely unhallowed ground, looks very promising indeed.

No mention of Pulis. Please tell me his contract is going to expire before I do.
-
if he could stay out of the treatment room.
-
Not to mention the fact that the Cheats had 6 or 7 years of sky money as they cheated their way to PL survival (and a couple of FA Cup finals), plus overly generous parachute payments for 4 more years when it all finally collapsed. That adds up to hundreds of million of undeserved income. Us, Palace, Luton, Bompey, etc. had but a fraction of their undeserved income. Cheating, lying bastards.

Good call: A combination of (B) and © it is, then.

I think he was referring to the fact that in their last match Huddersfield knew that they were out of it, and so played a friendly against Brentford, with both eyes on the playoffs. If they had needed a result against a very poor Brentford team I'm sure it wouldn't have ended 4-4. Assuming they did indeed need to (and most likely have succeeded) in beating Brentford, the required target would have been 24 points.

Well, Chinny has been looking for someone to buy the club who is either (A) A big fan with money, who isn't too concerned about losing millions because of his love of the club, or (B) A complete blithering idiot. Looks like he's succeeded in finding someone under category (B), then.

You obviously are trying to count the Plymouth match, where he was manager in name only (arrived a few hours previously, and was a basically a spectator to Dudd/Gormless's last fiasco). After that his record was P13 W3 D7 L3 = 1.23 points per game = 57 over a season (comfortably safe). After being dismissed by Lowe, Pearson took over relegated Leicester, and despite the Lowe-luvvies saying the "boot-boy" wouldn't succeed, he took them up as champions with 96 points, and the next season took them to the playoffs (losing on penalties).

Saints V Walsall Post match chat PROMOTION .
Dark Munster replied to SOTONS EAST SIDE's topic in The Saints
Alex: "Mum! I've got an offer from Newcastle to play for them in the Premier League!" Mum: "You're not going anywhere, you're staying with the Saints." Alex: "But Mum......" Mum: "No more arguments, otherwise you're off to bed without supper young man." -
Very misleading Stats. Here are some more relevant facts for you; Nige averaged 1.23 points per game while at Saints, an average that is good enough for an upper half finish. He took over a demoralized squad that was sinking like a stone. He turned it around in a short time and made the team very hard to beat (only 3 defeats). Under his leadership Saints finished 2 places above Leicester, who got relegated with a record high number of points ever (for any division in any professional league in the world).

Surprised no-one has Gray in their bottom 5. Absolute utter and total disaster. And how anyone can have Sourpuss in the top 5 mystifies me. Apart from the 6-3 against 10-man Manure his record was appalling. And who can forget Ali Dia? We played like crap and looked relegation certs until his assistant (whose name escapes me) more or less took over near the end, and pulled off the greatest of escapes. Good: Ball Nicholl Adkins Strachan Pearson Ok: Pardew Sturrock Hoddle Jones Borderline incompetent: Burley Merrington Appalling: Souness Branfoot Wigley Dodd/Gormless Gray Wotte Poortvliet Wilkins Rednapp

No. Yes. Not for long. HTH.

Are you referring to our match against Cheats FC next season?

When Nige 1 was appointed I was cautiously optimistic, and he exceeded my expectations. Shame that **** Lowe got rid of him through spite. And Nige 1 proved the Lowe-luvvies completely wrong. When Nige 2 was appointed I was cautiously optimistic, and so far he has exceeded my expectations. I think, like Strachan, his man-management skills are top notch. But most of the squad he has inherited, and I think the jury is still out whether he can be as good in the transfer market as (for example) Lawrie Mac, or (dare I say it) Pardew.

I read it as "Please Mr. Chainrai, don't kill me."
