  1. So far same old saints this season. Look good against the better teams (for little reward) and crap against the teams around us... Early days, but we can't afford to play like this in a game we should be looking to win
  2. We bought Elyounoussi from Basel, not the SPL. We've actually done very well out of most of our SPL signings. Although I agree with the overall point that £30m seems too much for MoR
  3. I'm actually a little stunned some people would prefer Bijlow over Ramsdale... Nothing to do with who is better for our system but the simple fact that Bijlow has been very injury prone and we can't afford to be missing him for half the season! You'd think we'd learnt from Stewart. Don't get me wrong I'd take Bijlow over AM & GB but if we have the option of Ramsdale for only a few £m more for the year we should do it
  4. Ramsdale will cost us £10m for the year when you take into account fee and wages, but he's an established PL keeper and as you say not injury prone, so definitely the better option imo
  5. I get the frustration but if Martin doesn't want him then there's no point keeping him. Not sure what other younger players we've ditched though? Moreso young players ditching us! There's Mara & potentially Sulemana I suppose...
  6. I cant wait for the slating of the club on here if Bijlow misses half the season due to injury like he has the last couple of years.... Fingers crossed he's over it now
  7. Palace are in London, so much closer to his current club, and are now a more established PL team, with a manager who did brilliantly for them last season. Unlikely Ramsdale chooses us over them
  8. Why?
  9. If we play like that every game we'll stay up. Newcastle defended brilliantly, and obvs we could have used a bit more quality up front. But every player played well (McCarthy fcuk up apart). Good to see SAA be aggressive and positive when he came on. Would have liked to see the same from Dibling tbh. Suga looked great as well, and disappointing he went off (hopefully a precaution). Disappointing, but at the same time encouraging, result P.s why the fcuk is Bruno always amazing against us?? What did we ever do to him?
  10. Whilst I hope you're right it's not a fair comparison. Mara has never been first choice for Saints, and according to the below website he actually was one of the best performing strikers in the championship based on minutes played last season, with 8 goal involvements in 616 minutes on the pitch. https://footystats.org/players/france/sekou-mara Again, not saying you're wrong, but judging number of goals scored by a first team starter against a bench warmer for number of goals scored is not particularly accurate imo.
  11. Archer would be underwhelming, but guess we'll see what happens if he does join. Maybe we'd negotiate the same kind of deal Sheff utd had, whereby Villa buy him back if we go down this season. Hopefully not a loan at least, as it'd mean we couldn't get Ramsdale
  12. I'd love for us to have 2 solid DMs who can protect the defence. Seems a good option IMO
  13. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-southampton/alletransfers/verein/180 Transfer history for anyone with a terrible memory (like me!) I think I'd go Osvaldo - seemed a real coup at the time šŸ˜… We did have several in a few years - Mane, Tadic, Vvd, Alderwiereld. I was excited for Forren as well, which I guess proves I shouldn't get exicted
  14. Tbh none of the strikers we're currently linked with fill me with much enthusiasm. I'd rather we gave Tall Paul a fair crack than any of them, and that we use our budget to get Ramsdale in. A player we know will improve us and is PL quality, in an absolute critical position
  15. This basically. He had a short purple patch at the start of his Saints career, and has since done fcuk all. Much the same as Broja, who some are desperate to get back.
  16. It wasn't explicitly stated that it was Ralph's decision I don't think, more the clubs. Also missed out on Guehi https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/3497835/2022/11/07/hasenhuttl-sacked-southampton-behind-scenes/
  17. Not sure Lazio will be that interested anymore šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚
  18. So £6m in wages, maybe another £5m loan fee? Let's say having Ramsdale over McCarthy gets us an extra 5 points over the season, that could easily be the difference between safety and relegation. So seems a good investment to me. Risky, but worth the risk imo The bigger issue as others have pointed out is that he may well have better offers....
  19. We already have a GK with England call ups TBF... Seems to me we should be going all out to get Ramsdale if we can.
  20. I hope you're right but suspect that won't turn out to be the case. We are heading towards an even bigger gulf between the haves and the have nots in the county game.
  21. Moukoko signing for Marseille, as per Romano on twitter. No surprise there
  22. Established team with a big name manager means we have no chance in a straight fight. Unless WHU are signing him as a squad player, which seems unlikely, or we blow them out of the water on wages, which seems even more unlikely...
  23. Our very own Posh & Becks šŸ˜šŸ˜‚
  24. I agree completely that's the only way we'd have a chance, but it'd be a huge gamble. There are recent examples of youngsters who have been massively hyped signing for lower end PL clubs - Moise Kean for Everton was a disaster and Gnonto for Leeds. Gnonto has been ok for Leeds TBF. Guess it's no different to any striker we sign, they're all going to be a gamble
  25. The more I hear about Moukoko the less enthused I am. He's considered one of the hottest young strikers in Europe, but if no one better than the teams touted are interested there must be either a serious issue with his development to the men's game or serious attitude/behavioural issues. If they only want c€20m as well that makes me even more uneasy
