As i also mentioned though Pardew changed the tactics about and they paid off. As easy it is to think 4-5-1 was wrong it was in my book the right call. We did it at the weekend and hammered a better team. The problem was Gillett,Hammond,Wotten are not creative players, they are too similar. The formation works just that the guy who was meant to be the creative spark (Gillett) had a nightmare. We might as well of not had him on the pitch he was that poor. So i don't think Pardew could of done anything that he did not already do. Our problem as i mentioned is we lack central creative players who have pace. We didn't have any out there today. But have to also remember their first goal was a total scramble, no skill to it, a fluke of a goal. Their 2nd was from a penalty. If we take away those 2 incidents they basically had 11 people in their goal with no desire to come out and attack. We had something like what 12 corners in the first half? If we can get Saga out and get a young nippy forward in who can come off the bench at say 65mins to play along a front group of Mellis,LallanaLambert,Waigo,Morgan we will rip teams apart. Taking Mellis,Lallana and Morgan out pretty much killed our creative threat.

Just back Well not sure what to say really. Was a bit of a wierd one. First 15-20 mins we were outstanding just couldn't get a goal. They had 1 attack and some how the ball is bundled in very odd fashion. Will be interesting to see the replay as i have no clue what happened. We start again and do well and again they break out with a potential offside and Davis took their guy down. He was lucky to be on the pitch i felt but to be fair there were defenders recovering so it could go either way. 0-2. Second half thankfully Pardew changed it about as we could not create the clear cut chances we needed. Going 4-4-2 and taking off Gillet helped a lot. I thought Antonio did okay but was very raw. Hard to judge him on 45mins really. With that play resumes and we are again in total control. Our possesion for the game must be 80% or something. Thankfully our pressure paid off with Waigo getting his 2 goals. We should of scored again with Hammond hitting the bar and Thomas missing with a header that was about an inch wise. Lambert did well from a free kick too. They had 2 excellent chances to re-take the lead and they should of took them, they were unlucky. Penalties is a lottery as they say but all of ours were superb. Overall i think we deserved to win. First half they had like 2 runs into our half and took 2 chances which were fortunate, especially the first one. We showed character to come back and if this was past few seasons we would of lost. The players would of given up. But they didn't so fair play to them. Pardew's changes worked again. Now the negatives. 4-5-1 is a bit of a negative tactic but with the players out there it made sense. We lacked the creative side to midfield and i think this is what we missed. If you bring Morgan,Lallana,Mellis into that game it would of been a hamering. We dominated it. However i think Wotten should no longer be apart of the first team. I know that is harsh and he scored the winning penalty but he was the main reason for our un-doings. His passing is **** poor. We got into some excellent positions where the right decision would of been a simple pass to the guy next to you but nope he tries to hit a cross ball and 9 times out of 10 it went straight to their guy. He is not that type of player and it iritates me to see him try. His sloppy passing could of cost us. Without sounding harsh Gillett is ****. I could of passed the ball better then he could. I am pretty clear in my mind now that Gillett,Wotten,Saga,Pullis,Forecast,Molyneux,Patterson are players who should probably be shipped out and better ones brought in. So not the best performance we have put in, but we deserved to win and highlights how few actual creative players we have at the club.

It buuuurrrrns! Lallana and Morgan are out so you should of had a look before you call people retarded hey! And Mills can play either side. He is left sided player but i have seen him play right in reserves before and he did ok. If push comes to shove he can play there. If not then just put James in there. Simples.

It is a mickey mouse cup but i said the same thing about the Zenith Systems Data Cup and that did not stop the enjoyment of being at Wembley! So really as much as the rest of the football world might laugh at the cup we should give it a bit of respect. On paper this would be the easiest trophy for us to win. If we did win it i think that would be a great gift to our new owner and hopefully make him want more! So i think some players will need to be rested as we got another game on friday which is a little bit more important due to our league position. I would go for ---------------Bart/Forecast----- --------------------------------------- Mills---Perry--Thomas---Molyneux ---------------------------------------- Mellis-----Gillet--------Wotten-------Holmes -------------------------------------------- ---------Saga--------Papa------------------

Early figures show fifa sold 1.3m copies in europe in just 3 days....800k of that coming from UK. Bet Tesco are loving it!
-
Wait for the "he is going to be crap, why didn't we not get Ronaldo, Pardew hasen't a clue" realists.... Nice to see them thinking about the future of the club as well as the now. If he does well then sign him up. Scoring 7 goals from 9 games at that Titcham United as a winger shows he is at least better then that level.

Next target - get out of the bloody relegation zone
St Marco replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Saints
Just worked out that if we don't get out of the drop zone by new years we actually have been in the drop zone for a whole year.....That sort of puts it into perspective how long this club has been struggling. We have played 4 of the top 6 and only played 4 teams below 14th. So we have a slightly easier run in now so fingers crossed should pick up points a bit quicker then we have thus far. It would be great to get out of there before the end of the year and go into 2010 strongley. -
I think what iritates people is that it does not go both way's. Lose = moan Draw = moan Win by thrashing a team = moan The past week we have won a game and lost a game. We lost that game to a fluke goal, that was what seperated us. For 70% of that game we were the better team and played the best football probably since we were in the prem league. We scored 6 goals from open play. The manager "tweaked" things which paid off etc etc. The point is when the good things happen they are not commented on, you get a comment similar too "we were lucky to win" or "1 game does not make a season". But if we lose they say "the result is what matters and we lost" or "we have played a game and lost, we are going to get relegated" etc etc. The double standards is what annoys me. How anyone can not be happy with the way the team is playing right now, especially after a 4-1 thrashing is beyond me.
-
Davis obviously, the man is class. But i think we can now add Hammond,Harding and Lambert to that list. Makes a change having good players who actually give a fook doesn't it.
-
Shame an excellent first 2 pages were ruined by the 3rd to be honest. Guess that old saying can't make everyone happy all of the time rings true with this forum.
-
It can be done. A few seasons ago in CCC Hull were doing crap but with 22 games to go they won 14 of them and drew 4. 46 points from 66. If you put a run like that in then your always going to have a chance. I don't think were reach the playoffs, i don't expect us too. But were only 11 games in. I think Leeds will win the league and Charlton will finish 2nd. In January if we can ship out a lot of the players not needed or those who don't want to be here and replace them with the quality levels we already see from Hammond,Lambert,Trotman,Harding etc then we could do really well in the last 5 months. If we can be consistent and win say 60% of the rmaining games and draw another 20% we could do it. But that is not our goal, our goal is the team above us.

I got it early because i have a friend who works at Codemasters and they make the game.

The season has a looong way to go. If we can go on a bit of a run, say win the next 4 games we should not be too far from getting out of the bottom lot. If we can get out of there by xmas then we have 5 months to try and push up the table. It is possible just going to be very difficult.

I managed to blag my copy of this game a little early. I have not played it for long as been busy at the game and playing Fifa. So about an hour or so. First thing if your a fan of the 1st one your going to love this game. In a way it feels more like a re-make then a sequel. It is not run and gun, it is a war simulator. If you walk around in the open you are probably going to lose your head pretty quick. That whole keep your ass in the grass thing is back. And this is one big difference you notice straight away, the grass looks good! The whole place looks good. It is not the best graphics i have seen on the PC but in a wierd way that is good because the game is not about graphics. But make no mistake they are excellent anyway. Another thing you notice is sound, this is really important this time around. Your ears in some instances will be like your eyes. You could be looking out across a field and hear the wind rustling in the tree's. The near by sea hitting the shore. And out of nowhere a crackle noise. Then the team radio goes "number 3 is down". You hit the deck and try to find where the firing is coming from. And this is when the graphics come into play. The enemy will have cammo on so are nearly impossible to see. You can either stay and get picked off or move and try and find a better position. The place is huge, really huge. Like in the first one you will be spending more of your time getting from A to B. Getting to B has many different routes. It is up to you. But it will mean you spend most of your time not fighting. You get hit and your either going to die or be injured. If you get injured a medic can help you if one is in your squad. Or you can heal yourself with bandages to a certain point. It makes you realise the true nature of real war. You would not just run around, you would not be shooting from the hip etc...War is full of boring periods followed by quick skirmishes. And that is what this game does thus far. It is a very hard game, but you thankfully get to use checkpoints now. Not like the first one where you had to save it every 10 meters you ran because you knew somewhere a sniper was gona pick you off. So far it is a really good game. After playing games like COD it is hard to switch back into that old "your life has value" mentality. You will die alot. But it is fun, lots of fun. As i said it feels more like a re-make then a sequel because it feels like you been here before. Which is a good thing. I expect this game will do pretty well review wise as the sheer depth it has is amazing. Soon as you start you see a US helicopter flying over head with the mini gun firing at something. The whole sound is quality and feels life-like. No doubt i will play it a lot when i have got time

Lambert has been amazing for us recently. I think today showed me he is a player in the same vein as MLT. Might looklike he is doing nothing, sometimes he isn't doing anything, but when he really wants to he can create a bit of magic and score a goal from next to nothing. Boy have we missed a player like that in recent years. If the people are getting crosses to him and passes into dangerous places you can see he is the type who will cause serious damage to a team.

Just back from the game Gutted to be honest. All those people saying prior to tues that we can't score goals, can't score goals from open play, can't take corners, Pardew getting tactics wrong, playing ****, Papa and Lambo useless etc etc are right. Fair play to them.... Seriously though was a very proffesional performance. The first 5-10 mins i think we have to be honest and say we were ****. The set-up looked wrong anf credit to Gillingham they came out taking it to us, they were the better team. We then scored by a fecking amazing strike by Rickie which i am sure was our 1st shot, we did not deserve the lead. Gillingham kept on going and got a goal which was also quality. But then things started to click for us and in fairness we played them off the park. It was not the best performance but we started to boss the game. When we got the 2nd goal we had a little wobble after but was tiny. From that point on it was game over. We could of had a few more goals as i think was Mellis hit the post and Papa hit one over which i felt he should of done better with. Then was the free kick from Lambo which was very well saved. All in all the lad's did well without really going into 4th gear. I think someone was due a stuffing but i actually don't think this is it. Papa played well and combined with Lambert well, Lallana was excellent as he has been for the past few games and so was Mellis and Harding. But my man of the match was Lambert. The guy is pure class. He has played what 9 games and scored 6? Didn't DMG get to 6 around 25 games or something? He wins nearly everything that comes to him. My mate describes him as "a greedy monster", and i think that is about right! Not greedy as in that he shoots etc because he doesn't, he passes to people nearly every time. But when the ball is in the air and there are 5 players on him he will get the ball nearly every time. So good solid performance, defence needs to work on it a bit but everywhere else was good. Pardew got things spot on after it was 1-1. Now into the + points. Hopefully we can now put a win run together and move up the table in the next month or so.

OS - Northam for more saints fans/moving seats update
St Marco replied to NickG's topic in The Saints
Great news I never understood why Lowe etc made it so we have the most vocal group right next to the away fans...Hopefully we can make the stand more intimidating like the Kop or something. -
I have seen offsides not given, Andy Gray will then say something negative. But in all honesty i have only seen this once so it might have been a audio glitch or something. As for handballs they have been in the previous editions but again happen very rarely. The only time i have seen them is normally in free kick situations, then Tyler will say "and that is hand ball". I am happy they are not very often because it is not something you can control so would be harsh to get done by it all the time.

Yeah it is a tad confusing, but then again we are Saints, nothing is ever straight forward with us Totally agree with what your saying The9. I have been playing fifa 10 for a bit now and really love it. But feck is it hard! After playing the demo a lot then dropping down to League One you notice the difference bigtime. The players are slower, they are not as skilled i.e you try and pass and sometimes it will go just a fraction away from where you wanted it to. The defences are hard as nails and trying to get a header in is very difficult! Other things i notice are the graphics are much much better then they were on demo. The blur thing has gone and the presentation seems different, more crisp. The stadium shots look a lot clearer. I play in tele view and that looks a bit closer then the demo was i think. The lighting is better too. When your in the shaded parts it is not as dark which i think makes it better. Lots and lots of nice touches but as i said jesus it is hard. My 1st goal was scored by Wotten....

Didn't that happen with Rafa and Riberry or something?
-
Yeah but if that happened you could just imagine the ****storm it would create. All those teams who went ino admin and were given penalties will look at that and think how can it be one rule for some and another for everyone else? I can just picture Bate's face if that happened. The whole point of the rule is to stop teams spending money they do not have and Pompey right now are a fine example of how not to run your football club. While i have no doubt the PL will try and help as it would damage their image to have a team go into admin. But if Pompey don't have any money and don't pay their bills they will have to go into admin, that is how it works. I doubt the PL would be able to take on the club's debts, that would set up a very dangerous future for the FA. Any prem team who is in troubles could escape punishment that way. The law of the land is if a football club goes into admin they will have a points deduction. I can't see the PL not following the rules with this one. I can imagine it would be a case where it drags on and on and then Pompey get relegated and then they hit them with the penalty.
-
Bit harsh considering he is what 1 goal from top scorer in the league?
-
I would **** myself laughing if they got a point in their next game only to go into admin a couple of day's later and be on -9. That would be funny as fook. After the **** they said about us fook em.
-
Also they are saying that their arab owner has been taken to hospital due to kidney stones or something. Maybe it is true and he is unwell but maybe that will be used as a smokescreen as to why they might not be paid in the next few day's etc... Because yesterday they said it would be sorted out in 24hrs. Strange timing of events.
