it could be burnley playing hardball and think saints will eventually pay asking price. by showing interest in hooper maybe saints are trying to force their hand. to be honest i dont have much preference over hooper, jay rod or sordell although out of the three jay rod is the most lambert like. yes we won our last two games with out lambert but we definitely need someone to play his role when he not available.

Graeme Bailey from sky is doing a transfer debate online at the moment @SkyGraemeBailey I am hearing rumours #saintsfc using hooper bid to hurry up burnley and watford on bids for jay rod and sordell. Any truth? I don't think they will give up on Hooper, but I can't see Celtic selling this month. I know they are one of those in for Sordell but not sure they will push that. I see it either we are still trying to sign him and the fact he was more cagey about hooper than after forest game suggests deal could be close. on the other hand he is using hooper as a smokescreen so the media dont get wind of another deal. i think if hooper plays for celtic over the weekend that will indicate it wont happen and we move on.

what I noticed at forest game was he was a lot more direct and mobile with the ball. he seemed to have injection of confidence and let his naturally gifted instincts do the talking. long may it continue.

good call. he was a right handful that game and also in friendly against west brom. our defense was cork, fonte, hooiveld and fox that day which was first time it had played together and it really showed. hopefully we will be a lot more solid tomorrow.

judging by adkins interview on player I would say that the line up tomorrow is anyone's guess. I think Connolly will start as he wasn't risked in the cup cus of minor injury. I would say Fonte wont be fit. We dont know what injury Frazer has but the way Adkins was talking suggests their are a few players that wont make it tomorrow. Based on that assumption I would go with davis harding martin hooiveld fox cork morgan hammond sdr lallana connolly subs bart stephens jwp holmes forte

Thought it was interesting Adkins didn't deny interest in Hooper when asked by Solent whereas he has flatly denied interest in others players previously such as Delfonso at Villa. With Kris Commons he obviously made enquiry but realised it wasnt going to happen for whatever reason which he was open about. Also Adkins suggested looking beyond NPC for players as not a lot better than we have already in our league. He did mention that negotiations can take a long time before conclusion is found. So it could all well point to Hooper but likewise could be player that has been off the radar.

I hope we pursue our interest in this window. Watford have big money problems like most clubs in NPC so a decent offer will test there resolve to hang on to him. He is quick and strong and will only get better. He would learn a great deal from both Lambert and Connolly but has enough about him already to make an impact. Sign him, a left winger (allow lallana to move inside) and centre back cover (on loan) and I would like to think that will see us into the PL.

adkins interview gave the impression fa cup was not a piority and that he would use it to give some youngsters a chance. looking at the training footage there was at least 5 young players of whom I only recognised Reeves and JWP. cork needs a rest but I cannot see adkins playing two wide men with only holmes and forte the options therefore it will be the diamond formation. again due to injuries we dont have a ready steady replacement for cork so he will probably play. bart frazer martin jos harding morgan cork hammond jwp connolly reeves

his tweets sum up his attitude. corky, sdr, lallana, chappers and jos all get abuse as well (goes with the territory) but they either ignore it or respond in dignified way. he RT's everything even a tweet from someone sticking up for him and telling him to stuff saints.

does anyone know if Ben Reeves is actually a striker? according to his profile on the OS he was a central midfielder but has been converted to left back. I dont recall him being prolific for academy or development team so why on earth is he being played up front? I know we are light up front but surely we are better off playing a natural centre forward.

marvin sordell would be a good signing although he probably lacks experience to fire us to premiership but would be one for the future so probably wont happen in january. gone quiet on the jay rod front so maybe a deal will be done there especially now that we are top.

no way will he cost more than 2.5 million. he would offer that genuine pace we currently lack. Him and Lambert would be a dream ticket. Still need a Rickie like stand in as it is proven we are far less effective with out rickie.

I think Guly has been harshly criticised on this forum in the past but I have to agree he was absolute pants yesterday. Gave it away countless times and didnt work hard at all. He is a luxury player away from home and either goes from sublime to mediocre way too often for my liking.

close this thread down. it is embarrassing to read so many negative predictions (skates will be loving this). FFS we are top of the league on merit not by chance. Lets hope the fans going to the game get behind the team and stay positive unlike this so called fans forum.

So bloody negative people on here. They are awful . They lack flair and even our defense should be good enough to contain them. They are dirty and rely on bullying team into submission. It would take a very poor performance from us and a super effort from them to beat us. As long as play to our strengths and don't get drawn into there way of playing we will be ok. Boys will be up for this no problem. Two nil saints lambert pen and guly. Come on guys keep the faith.

adkins said pretty much the same thing when lallana first got injured but ended up missing the next few games. i think he wants lambert fit for poopey game so probably wont risk him for tomorrow if he is not fully fit and will hope we have enough in us to win again at sms. not sure we will have enough goal threat with out him in the team. i think he will keep with the rigid 3 in midfield (cork, hammond, morgan) with guly and lallana playing behind barnard.

brighton were allocated arround 3,150 back in august. I'm sure there would have been a bigger than average police presence for that game so the 3,200 figure being banded about seems to be unlikely given that the policing will be even more for this game.

we need to get back to basics whereby we pass and move with conviction and end product. people bang on about our poor away form but our last few home games haven't been brilliant either. Ok we beat brighton 3-0 but first half was woeful and 2 of the goals were pens. Hull and peterboro were lame. i just think the boys are feeling the pressure at the top which is understandable and many haven't experienced such dizzy heights before. the away form will only add to the pressure when playing at sms. tiredness and injuries will play a part during the course of the season but as long as we stick to our strengths then we can still be top come turn of the year.

Not song related but does anyone know if the sky cameras will be in the same awful position as the bbc ones use? So low down its like camera man is running the touchline.

they will try and drag us down with their dirty antics during the game as they know they cant compete with us from a footballing level. It will be paramount that we treat them like any other opposition otherwise we will play into there hands. We already work extremely hard as a team and play with immense passion so all we need to do is concentrate on our free flowing style which will reap its awards.
