What questions would you ask managerial candidates if you were ML?
ExSt Peter Saint replied to eelpie's topic in The Saints
Can you explain the offside rule? -
Just seen the team on the OS Southampton: Davis, James, Perry, Lancashire, Mills, Thomson, Gillett, Wotton, Boyle, Lallana, Rasiak. Subs: Bialkowski, Reeves, Doble, Saville, Pulis, McNish, Paterson http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1719772,00.html Interesting that Boyle's playing in midfield.

I agree that Wotte deserves respect for his work over the summer and keeping things going, but he was never going to be the manager we needed to get us going in the right direction. I didn't think the new owner would sack him, but tbh am very glad he did and that we will have new blood to take us forward. I just hope someone really good is lined up to take over very quickly.

MLT and Pinnacle withdraw
ExSt Peter Saint replied to Sold To The Man @ The Bar's topic in The Saints
Oh my god. Saints always spoil my mood. -
-10 and then use that as a motivational tool as other clubs have, but make sure we're good enough to get up. If the owners have enough money to retain the best players and bring in some new blood, that will fire us up the league, so there's no reason why we can't be successful even with a handicap.
-
If we get a decent manager in with some tactical nous who's able to get the best out of creative players, then Surman should thrive. If it's Wotte, we might as well sell.
-
No chance. If he stays we're doomed to dropping another tier, I reckon. Crazyness to bring him and Portaloo in to start with and my initial feelings about them were proved right, even if during the short bright periods I had doubts and started believing something miraculous might happen. That's the thing about being a fan, you always want to believe until it's gone beyond hope. Unfortunately, for me that was months ago.

My ratings FWIW Davis 5 a little at fault for the first goal, but kept us from being embarrassed otherwise. James 5 best I've seen him play as RB, but no decent crosses today - most went out of play so gave little decent option in attack Perry 5 in a defence that concedes 3 for second time in 3 games didn't look to be in command, not always awful, but not good enough Saeijs 5 not commanding either and lacked the presence of a real big leader at the back Skacel 5 Unlucky to be subbed rather than Surman, as he actually put a couple of decent crosses in and while not great was not one of the worst players in 1st half Smith 4 I lost count of the number of times he lost possession needlessly and the commentators were always on about his lack of ability to make the right decision - I totally agree. Took on his full-back a lot, but rarely came to anything. Wotton 4 the king of the mis-placed pass and being well behind the play. At least he tried to tackle a few times. Schneiderlin 4 What did he do today? A few one-twos and slightly better passing than Wotton, but nothing to justify the fact we paid money for him. Surman 3 Have to agree that he's totally off form and a liability at the moment McGoldrick 3 One shot that went closer to the corner flag than the goal and getting off-side fairly regularly is all I can remember. No threat. Saga 5.5 tried all match and had possibly our only shot on goal after battling through a difficult situation. No decent service and constantly isolated. Didn't get into the best positions for crosses maybe, but was always chasing and trying - maybe that's why. subs BWP 4 why was he on the left and Smith on the right? Did sweet FA of any use Euell 4 very ineffective, but not given any decent service at all Lallana Did he do anything, or was it just that I'd glazed over by the time he appeared? Wotte 2 Not sure why more than a one - feeling generous as we only conceded 3

You're a complete shambles. You're fired!
-
As it's a diamond, presuming we stick to the same formation, I don't think Smith, even if he was a great winger, is the best for that for position. Spiderman in for Lallana as the only change. They should be able to play 3 games a week. It's not like we've had to do it every week all season.

SFC - Have we finally passed the lowest point ?
ExSt Peter Saint replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
It's still going to take an incredible effort this season to stay up. We ****ed up the first half of the season so badly that this will be one hell of an escape if we pull it off. We had the players to do this on the books all along, but haven't used them. Now we finally are, but one or two injuries and we could be back to kids who don't have the strength mentally or physically to keep us in this league and relegation to the third division would leave us absolutely doing a Leeds. Would you want to be in that league for as long as them and then only be clinging on to a play off place at best? -
2 wins in a row and a clean sheet. Bloody delirious!!! Why haven't we been able to do this before? Obviously having saga back has made a huge difference, but most of the others were here. Poor management up till now. Well done Wotte for realising how stupid the previous system was, even if you were part of the team who installed it.
-
Thank f00k for that!
-
Same starting line up then. Subs will hopefully be: Bart, Liptak, Spiderman, BWP, Wotton (if fit)
-
I was shocked when I heard the goals go in. Still can't really believe it, but we'll still basically have to play like we did in the first half today for 90 minutes every game to get out of this. Very nice to have a win to celebrate for once, anyway.

Options for Saturday's team/formation
ExSt Peter Saint replied to ExSt Peter Saint's topic in The Saints
I agree - bump! I think we need one person who can pass in centre mid, so I don't think Gillett and Wotton together is the best combination. We need width, but we also need a big forward to stick away crosses - not Saga's strength and I won't even mention the other one. -
I can't see us winning, but you never know. Won't make any difference in the long run if we do. 1-1 or 0-1 depending on whether Saga gets a decent chance.

Options for Saturday's team/formation
ExSt Peter Saint replied to ExSt Peter Saint's topic in The Saints
I don't think you can say that team picks itself! Molyneaux has been a liability. BWP is never that great up front from the start. Many people would have Euell in there somewhere for his physical presence. Likewise, Lallana hasn't been in great form and maybe his game doesn't suit being a right winger. The only ones I think should definitely play are Davis, Perry, Size, Skacel and Saga. All the others are highly debateable. -
Options for Saturday's team/formation
ExSt Peter Saint replied to ExSt Peter Saint's topic in The Saints
There's always the none of these had really played for the first team befiore this season, but let's stick them in and see what happens team: ------------------Forecast James--Lancashire--Liptak--Molyneaux Mclaggon--Gillett--Gobern--Smith --------McGoldrick--Paterson -
I am not sure whether any team we put out will have enough to win the match, but I'm fed up with politics and want to start a football thread. As I see it, we can either stick with having mainly older players and a 4-4-2 or mix in some younger players with pace and also use that system or experimentwith going back to the 4-3-3 or whatever you call it. Players in CAPS I think are or should be definite starters and the others can be played around with. No Spiderman, which limits the options in midfield. experienced 4-4-2 sticking to what we had last week -------------DAVIS James--PERRY--SIZE--Skacel Lallana--Wotton--Euell--Surman --------SAGA--McGoldrick put in a few more youngsters -------------DAVIS James--PERRY--SIZE--Skacel Lallana--Gillett--Surman--Smith ---------SAGA--McClaggon Back to total football -------------DAVIS James--PERRY--SIZE--Surman -------Gillett--Wotton Lallana-----Euell----Skacel -------------Saga Or any other combinations. I really wish DMG wasn't the first name on the team sheet, as I think we'd stand a much better chance without him, but fear he'll play no matter what. I can't decide what is the best line up. Any ideas?
-
I knew before this game we were going down. Nothing has changed except that I feel slightly more depressed after another defeat and no goals scored. Hit the woodwork twice, but they also missed a pen and Davis made some other good saves from the sounds of it. Deserved nothing and that's what we got. The whole squad is massively demoralised and there's no way Wotte will turn this around.

Bristol City 1-0 Saints - First Half/Half Time
ExSt Peter Saint replied to Arizona's topic in The Saints
Is there a link for commetary please? Don't know why I want to hear us getting thrashed - must be a masochist. -
I only wish we could be in the same division next year, but the chances of that are tiny. It's much harder staying in the prem than this carp league, but chairman Lowelife has made sure we are going down another division. Unless he goes, it may well be another after that too.

Last season I never lost hope as I have this season. Even with certain disastrous results, I always felt there was enough in the team to pull through. Pearson gave me a feeling that the team would never give up. Wotte doesn't and I don't think I'm alone in that looking at the poll results. I couldn't believe the passion in the players on the last day of the season against Sheff Utd - they fought for everything and if only we'd done that more times over the season, we'd never have been in that position. The young lads may have come through the ranks at Saints, but I don't believe they have the strength or the fight in them to take on the teams in this league. I also don't think the coach has it in him to give them that winning mentality. NP may not be the greatest coach in the world, but he had the fans behind him and the players looked like they gave a sh1t. That must be worth a few points over the season. Far more than pretty football under people who don't understand this league and what it takes to win games.
