The point I am making is that in the 60s when there was the maximum wage until the formation of the PL was that wages were really not that high compared with today when nobody of real talent wants to play for the Saints I was very lucky to see top class players like Ron Davies Peter Osgood Charlie Geopge FranK Worthing Peter Shilton and Alan Ball in Division2 play for us and we had loads of young players who played in the top division those days are of course over Our youngsters seem to move very early and reasonable players do not want to extend their contracts. Most top teams in the Championship get in loanees like we did recently

They did not offer Lumley a contract as we are in the Championship and they are happy two have the goalkeepers who took us promotion I doubt Leicester and Ipswich will win so many games this year and there do not seem to be teams of the calibre of Leeds around But only time will tell
