Stephens is a good player with ball at feet he was originally a fullback so it is not surprising he is not good in the air defensively. Why not give him a chance and see what happens

You are proably right in all you say but why whinge we have a crap squad and possibly a crap owner? Why just support the team and hope for the best? Nothing can be done so lets hope for a better performance next week

Exactly right but a little lower than average I would have thought unless we get a couple of top class players in or the squad performs better than in the two recent seasons

But Batman is right on the Transfer Window as it shows we are going to be a lower middle PL team at the best I don't think we have ever paid in excess of £20m for a player We have good players but not any really good players I would have thought so expectations of any success are going to be low

I thought we had a couple of Friendlies before the start of the PL season So I am going to wait until then before suggesting the team versus Burnley. But when McCarthy and Bertrand are the only ones I think will definitely play along with the new CB it just shows that we don't have many standout players

It was the end of the game it was a friendly it was a patched up defence it was hot not sure players knew who they were marking I would expect in a PL game there would be commitment.

I heard an interesting piece on Radio 5 Live this morning by the Manager of England U19s saying the same thing but also pointing out that many good players are not getting the chance to play for PL clubs so are not developing further

I don't understand why lots are worried about the defence when it appears that the attack or the lack of attack puts so much stress on the defence from a you tube clip I saw we did not seem to have any really clear cut chances. We do seem to have not improved the squad significantly since the start of last season and in that time lost our best defender and best attacker as well as Boufal. Currently not really excited with the prospect of the coming season but spending another £50m plus on two players might help. Look what you get theses days for £20m or so Carillo

England finished 4th in a World Cup of 32 teams. Four years ago they went out six days after their first match in 2016 Iceland knocked us out of the Euros It’s really easy to classify that as progress. No boasts, no arrogance, just progress. So surely Southgate should be congratulated for that instead of being insulted for playing possession football with a team of young and inexperienced players who are far from being world beaters.
