and they were not local lads I suppose Guernsey is local

Still think Terry Paine was the better allround footballer winger striker midfield general although MLT was more skillful not sure where the club would be without them Terry for getting us to Div 1 MLT for keeping us there Martin Chivers does not get the kudos on this Forum that he deserves very strong great ball control 96 goals in 175 appearances Channon was very good lots of pace but missed that penalty Boxing day v Arsenal 1973 (I dont bear grudges but met Bob wilson recently who made the save and he said it was all down to Alan Ball one of the most successful players ever to play for SFC who told Bob what to do) that led to our downfall flat mates were fed up with me chanting Channon for England in the early 1970s Great players great times when money was not as important as it is today and Saints supporters were pleasant to each other and not rude like they are today
-
Well they were not better players I can assure you Terry Paine was a great player not a great bloke though unlike Channon and MLT
-
Very well put I am upset with all these foreigners coming in buying our clubs to make a fast buck with no regard to the fans i know everybody hates Pompey but if you forget the rivalry etc they have really been shafted by greedy people I have never been sure about Adkins as a tactitican but as a man manager is was really good unlike Cortese who seems quite crazy and I have always thought his actions bizarre with no regard to SFC staff or fans He has been successful on the back of lamberts success but will this success last only time will tell but he has sacked three managers so far
-
Me too surely more important to get in players rather than a manager Quite a strange decision by a quite a strange Chairman

"Saints considering Mauricio Pochettino" - Daily Mirror
John B replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
Well we will have a next manager sometime so I think it is good that if this is true that Cortese is looking to see what managers are available Even if we get relegated which I feel is very unlikely at the moment Adkins has done well and should remain as manager. The shame is that we have not been that clever in the transfer market not getting a GK or CBs earlier otherwise we could be in mid table -
Another poor signing along with a host of others but we are doing pretty well at the moment so I suppose it does not matter
-
No it does not I doubt whether he would have scored in the 3rd minute if he started
-
Dont think he will frighten attackers like Big John McGrath did
-
My hero Ottery St Mary Saint is the answer to your prayers perhaps
-
Perhaps they are concerned about his ability to play in the PL I doubt that the Norwegian League is any better than our Championship but if he is for the future thats OK but £4m does seem a lot
-
Seems a good move to me but I would still like to see some experience in the team as well but not sure the club are interested. Perhaps if we stay up the plan for producing a young team will be vindicated I hope so

Unprofessional reports on this thread always seems to mean reports which do not put SFC in a good light So is this unprofessional too Garth Crooks's team of the week LEFT-BACK - LUKE SHAW (Southampton) There is no doubt that this lad can play. He looked composed in defence and dangerous in attack in the victory over Aston Villa. What a pity Southampton could not retain their credibility by just admitting that the referee got their awarded penalty wrong. But that would mean that Jay Rodriguez had dived and far be it for a football club to ever admit that!

Points are what we need and we got three So lets go forward with confidence I am starting to think we are going to survive
-
I think it is very good that Cortese is monitoring the situation with Adkins who is not very experienced at PL Level He obviously is not in the I trust Nigel brigade but in the sensible I will see how he performs brigade. Are we sure Di Matteo is any good as I agree with Harry it should not be difficult to suceed at chelsea
-
The issue is that Cortese wants to control what goes into the Echo The Editor controls what goes into a peper that is the way things work
-
Perhaps Villa think we are ripe for the taking after our defeat to Chelsea as we have only beaten QPR away and will probably be without key players. I think we should be confident but not overly so a draw would be a reasonable result
-
Is our current side being competitive in premier league?
John B replied to NickG's topic in The Saints
Until we meet teams which are in form we have had it pretty easy recently even Arsenal were below par when we played them -
Lightning does not strike twice apparently so I would expect Villa to be a completely different team at the weekend unfortunately probably like we will be after Chelsea I would be happy with a draw
-
You must be joking Not a very clever way to run a company reducing the capital by paying interest instead of reducing by investment
-
So why did we get this loan based on next years Sky mpney if we were minted
-
Yes you are quite right we have much more chance of getting relegated than getting to the Champions League
-
I have no idea as I am not a clairvoyant as I dont know what new players will drafted in to the teams at the bottom what injuries will happen and what errors players will make But if we get in the right players and dont get too many injuries I think we will stay up which will be a great credit to Adkins dont care about any other team
-
I doubt 1 1 will be the result
