I'm gutted. His clown show was going to run them into the ground. Now there is a (remote) possibility of someone sensible taking them on. It would be the equivelant of our fishy friends cheering Whacko Jack on a few weeks back, only for the sensible Mr Liebherr to come to the rescue. (FWIW I have been following that website for a while and while the writer obviously has a grudge he is definitely ITK)

Good signing, just worry a bit about whether he & Murty's fitness will last the season
-
That's what I say every time, but it doesn't seem to make much difference
-
Has he signed for the skates yet?
-
We never win our first home game - it's traditional. Since 1991 our record is P 18, W 2, D 6, L 10, so I'd be more than happy with a point

Just been reading their message board. What an ignorant, oafish bunch they are. Makes me proud to be a Saintsweb member. We may get a bit abusive now and again, and a bit bigoted, but sometimes this site verges on the intelligent and interesting ,and at least you feel that our contributors don't have to gather into groups to raise their collective IQ to 100

I don't normally comment but we are still a selling club!!!!

Plus, of course, he can savour the delights of living in Wolverhampton. Who wouldn't forego Hampshire for that? -
I can't decide between 0 or 1, so I go for a 1/2 a player
-
The point I was trying to make is that to get the right player on the right deal takes time. Everyone is screaming for instant signings, but if you rush it you pay too much and get someone like Glassman II
-
This thread should be linked to the ones panicking about not signing players. Wayne Thomas should be in every manager training course. Burley signed him in a panic because we needed a CB in a hurry - he paid way over the odds (I remember Burnley fans couldn't believe their luck at the time that someone had taken him away and paid a million quid plus) & offered him an unsustainable contract to get him to sign. He has never been better than middling okay (& never will be), he must be the highest paid CB in League One and he spends more time sick than fit. So let Mr Pardew remember this lesson & get the right man at the right price in his own time

I think this is the silliest thread I've ever read on here. Bargain priced STs, new regime, hope, what do you want? You sound like the sort of person Man City are hoping to convert to their new brand of bought-and-paid-for sporting success. I like the misery, the forlorn hope, the joy in small triumphs - that's why I'm a Saints fan, not a plastic. We will get there but remember - no pain, no gain.....

The more I see of Doctor Skate the more I love him. I look forward eagerly to the dralfahim website updates, then reading about all those hopeful little Poopey fans still pinning their hopes on him. He really must be the most humorous almost football chairman there has ever been. (Even more amusing than Simon Jordan)

Keep calm. Mr Pardew has a plan

Excellent news - I still think it is all coming together nicely

If we got to keep Rasiak & possibly Saga with the squad we have, fairly relaxed, chilled, unstressed, complacent, unruffled..... Oh it's hard to work up the same enthusiasm for not-too-worried as it is angry
-
Two things struck me about this - one, that a lot of the team I first watched - eg Hollywood, McGrath, O'Neil, Fisher, Jenkins - would probably struggle in League One these days. Even Big Ron - he would make Rasiak look like a pacy workaholic. But they were of their time and I guess can only be judged that way. The other, sadder thing, is it is a lot harder for youngsters to have those heroes like we did. It is all but impossible for a local lad to come up through the ranks and have a long career with the team (any team, in fact - Terry & Gerrard are pretty unique in the Prem) It is no coincidence that many of our heroes have come up through the ranks - Paine, Channon, Holmes, Moran, Williams, MLT, Bridge. And even if they move on they retain a place in our hearts. Nowadays any lad with something special is whipped away at sixteen or seventeen before we have even got to recognise their face. I take a passing interest in Walcott or Bale's career, but never as much as say Bridgey who at least had the chance to become a hero to us. And the high turnover of players, and the likelihood that they'll be off after one good season (and this applies to any team, not just us) means that today's kids don't get to make those bonds like I did towards people like Micky Channon. My advice would be to wallow in the rose tinted memories of your childhood heroes - you don't know how lucky you are to have them

We're going to sign Eto'o, or is it Kalinic or is it MacCormack? Maradona is going to be the new DoF and Sven the new manager. A billionaire Arab doctor is about to take us over and pumps millions into the squad.... Oh, no, that's some other team where the rumours come thick and fast but reality is wondering if Steve Finnan will manage more than 3 games this season and if they can match Eugene Bopp's wages at Crewe. Give me silence and the odd nice surprise anyday over a tidal wave of BS trying to paper over the cracks
-
I don't think he's that young and he's not fast or mobile enough for League one. Good consistent striker at the level he's at though.

Am I a bad person for enjoying reading this website every day? I find myself being drawn to a Poopey fans forum in an entirely unhealthy way, but then again it is the most fun read you'll ever get, watching those funny unevolved creatures slowly grasping the reality of their situation. Maybe I'm just missing the rollercoaster ride at SMS - let's face it, the Skates thread is the only interesting thing going on in this forum at the moment. Maybe the start of the season will cure me, maybe I will be smote down by God for my hubris. Maybe I'll just take another peek.....

Who was sitting next to Pardew at Farnborough game?
sidthesquid replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
It wasn't me if that's any help.... -
Not a sniff of a rumour is a good thing - look at the Sk8s, rumour after rumour that fall through. Harding signed and not a hint of a whisper beforehand. All the best deals are like that - most whispers come from agents looking for a fee or show-off managers on the take from journos (eh, Arry?). Silence is golden (but duck-tape is silver).

Still, they've got Steve '3 Games' Finnan to look forward to:rolleyes:
-
Liewise, plenty of younger, hungrier fish in the sea
-
It doesn't count - he has retired & the PFA are buying Nottarf Krap to become a rest home for retired professional footballers - why else is Steve three-games-for-Espanyol Finnan going there?
