  1. Unfair as ever on James. If he is blamed for the goal, what about the half dozen other players their fullback ran past? Or the other defenders for not picking up the unmarked man in the box? He put in at least a half dozen decent crosses into their box. Thompson did one, Lallana about the same & Mellis none. And he links up the play well - neat & tidy. I agree he is not the best full back ever but he does add something to the team
  2. I noticed that the CB who scored against us for Swindon was only 18
  3. Nobody - espeecially me - is going to boo him, but that doesn't stop him being cr*p
  4. There are 3 players that need immediate replacement - Wotton, Perry & Thomas. Not only are they not up to what is required in this league, they are neber likely to be
  5. Mr Fiftypence-Piece-Head. Shockingly bad player
  6. It was a badly conceived idea put forward by one faction while we were actually in admin & never looked like getting off the ground. You could argue that 20000 fans at the Rangers match might have been critical to your survival chances
  7. http://www.arabianbusiness.com/564669-new-pompey-owner-hits-back-at-media-criticism I could have sworn I read all this before somewhere... Oh yes, it was Tony - trust me, this deal is almost done - Lynam. Taxi for Doctor Skate
  8. My thoughts on the game Overall, a good night's work with little to complain about Players Davis - 7 - not much to do, but we still look vulnerable at corners Murty - 7.5 - very solid all round Harding - 7 - again, hard to find fault Lancashire - 6.5 - he still gets muscled out of it too often Thomas - 6.5 - wins a lot of headers, but was caught napping several times & his distribution is poor Lallana - 7.5 - looks fitter and stronger this season, worked hard all night James - 8 - Proof that good crosses are more important than mazy dribbling & he & Murty linked up well all night Wotton - 6.5 -Is it the Wilkins family influence - passing back or square rather than forward? Schneiderlin - 8 - He looks a bit bigger and tougher this season and is a class above on the ball Lambert - 7.5 - Does exactly what it says on the tin. Never going to be pretty football with him, but he is a big, strong awkward handful for any defence. (How we could have done with him last season....) Paterson - 7 - Worked hard and complemented Lambert well subs Rasiak - 7.5 - Still looks nothing special until he comes alive in the penalty area. Would be good to keep him this season Thompson - 7 - Not a bad lad to be able to bring off the bench Gobern - 7 - ditto. Both these lads are going to get the chance to develop at the right pace this season
  9. Having taken an unhealthy interest in the alleged takeover by the fake skate sheikh (try saying that after a few shandys!) & had a look at several of their fans' forums, I have been astonished by the ignorance, bigotry and downright cretinousness of many posters. It makes this site read like the Oxford Union debating society by comparison.
  10. Yes and they all go straight up in the air or straight back to the opposition. He's like Powell - just heads it as hard as he can without any thought. There were a dozen times yesterday when he wasn't under pressure when he gave away possession needlessly by doing that. A better player would have either headed it to a team-mate or brought it under control. He's a limited player - not the worst ever, but not exactly great value for £10K a week, either.

    Saga

Looked off the pace in real life, I thought, & never looked like scoring
  12. 2 wins in the last 19 opening home games. It's hard to believe there is anyone worse than that out there
  13. My thoughts on today. Overall, not unhappy - we never win the first home ghame & never seem to win with Sky watching so I'd have taken it at the start, but until that comedy of errors set off by Morgan's slack pass you couldn't see where a Millwall goal was coming from. The lack of options upfront was painfully apparent. Players - Davis - 7.5 - did what was needed, excellent pen save, but again added to the Fred Karno's circus everytime they had a corner Murty - 8 - going to be a legend Harding - 7 - I didn't think he was as great as others did, but happy to give him a chance to settle Thomas - 6.5 - I still have a problem with him. Great at winning the ball in the air, but like Darren Powell before him he is incapable of directing his headers anywhere but up and he never chests the ball down & passes it, even when he is in space Perry - 7 - solid & reliable, but getting slower by the game James - 7 - I thought he did okay but not outstanding Lallana - 8 - Did some good things today on left & right Wotton - 6 - He looked League 1 in the CCC, now he looks League 2. Immobile, inaccurate & clumsy Schneiderlin - 7.5 - should be a 1 for that sloppy pass that undid us, but otherwise looked a class above most of the game Patterson - 8 - looks very like Rasiak & his eye for goal. This lad is going to be good Saganowski - 6 - looked off the pace, though he worked quite hard. Subs Gobern & Thompson - 7 - Clearly a pair of good prospects, neither were able to make a huge impact Gillett - 7 - chased around but his touch was poor, though still better than Wotton's. Pardew - 8 - got them working for each other & somenice play at times. Subs were not very effective, but he needed a striker to bring on Ref - fine, except for giving them a pen, but I couldn't see the incident from our end
  14. I hear that after signing Eugene Bopp after his release by Crewe, the Skates are interested in signing Ronnie Biggs following his release by Norwich...
  15. Can we amalgamate this thread with the skates one please. It's confusing. Also, for all you happy skatewatchers another interesting article from the blogger http://dralfahim.blogspot.com/2009/08/gaydamaks-plans-for-portsmouth-fc.html It really looks like heads they lose, tails they lose
  16. And one of them is in prison, too
  17. S it's not completely wrong then...

    Skates

What is the point of the lounge anyway? I come on here to talk about Saints (which most definitely includes laughing at the skates) not to talk about shopping or holidays or biscuits or anything else. Close the lounge down, I say
  19. It must be love - nobody puts up with this much misery for anything less than love. And I'm with you all the way (in a strictly platonic, non-physical sort of way, unless of course you are Lucy Pinder in disguise)

    Skates

Of course it does. I bet most on here rarely visit 'the lounge'. Our interest in Skateland maybe unhealthy, but it's there nonetheless, as proved by this thread springing up and running and running as soon as you transferred the previous long-running one to the lounge to die.

Totally agree. Not much news on us at present. Each time the killjoys move a skate thread it dies a death and a new one pops up. Season hasn't started, we have endured a lot, why can't we laugh at the skates for a while before we get down to business?

    Skates

They are a bit simple up there in Norfolk and tend to get things the wrong way round. Maybe they don't understand that the Prem is higher than CCC. Maybe they think they've reached their promised land with League One
  23. The chance for two promotion parties, not just one, before we are reinstated in the promised land
  24. Er... he played centre-forward for 20+ games last season - that's usually quite a good position to score goals from. FWIW I really hope Jason does well there, but I'm still glad he's not at SMS any more. Another one who was part of the problem, not the solution
