He IS good
-
What he lacks most is pace. He is an okay CCC striker but we build him up to be our saviour. The last 3 home games he has not looked vaguely like he might score, I'm afraid. It's not lack of effort, but in packed defences he doesn't seem capable of taking the half-chances that come his way
-
Saints couldn't afford Pearson - it all sounds very familiar..

Have you ever considered how effective boycotting this site might be - it could be the clincher to getting Rupert out. I dare you, give it a go -
I'm assuming (maybe unfairly) that living in Ayrshire you don't see Saints too often & that maybe his legend at Hearts still lives on up there. Your adoration of him can't possibly be founded on his performances at SMS
-
Not true - Surman 5 & Viafara 4 goals ahead of his 3, don't know about assists. But it is ancient history anyway
-
Not true - I accept that he is not the greatest player, but he is playing a difficult role that doesn't win rave reviews. I thought in the second half particularly, when he was down our end, that he didn't do badly. He did fight hard, he did win some good headers & put some good passes through. I also hate people picking on a scapegoat for all the team's ills. I little while ago it was James, now McG. Ahead of him Saga & Euell were in different ways shocking - they were never going to score & we did create some chances as the game went on
-
The front two were shocking today - they were NEVER going to score a goal I may have been kind to Surman but I agree about Lallana
-
You think I was too generous?
-
The problem today was that they chased and harried like we did, resulting in the frenetic headless-chicken sort of game we had with the ball up in the air or in the stand more than on the pitch. We did get in some decent positions but I don't think I have ever witnessed such a dismal display of shooting as I did today
-
You clearly don't watch him every week. He is a very average CCC player with little pace and average touch. I want to rate the guy but he really is mediocre
-
My player ratings for another frustrating afternoon Davis - 7.5 - did nothing wrong because he had very little to do, but made a couple of decent stops James - 7.5 - I thought he did okay defensively and attacking. He is a genuinely good crosser Skacel - 6.5 - Routledge proved a handful for him meaning he struggled to get forward Perry -7.5 - What a good low-profile sort of signing he has been. Rarely put a foot wrong Saeijs - 7 - Likewise, I suppose, though he seemed determined to kick the skin off the ball every time it came near him today Surman - 6.5 - As ever all imaginitive/creative play flows through him, though he didn't fancy the rough and tumble today. The miss was not his fault, it was Euell's Gillett - 7.5 - worked his little socks off. He is definitely a plus this season Lallana - 6.5 - neat feet but needs something more McGoldrick - 7 - I know he is an easy scapegoat, but I thought he worked hard today and his link up play was excellent at times Saganowski - 5 - I'm sure I saw the linesman overtake as he chased for the ball in the second half. Never looked like he would score (again) Euell - 5 - Back to bad old Jason - no touch, no pace, plenty of endeavour but looked like a frisky carthorse I don't think he and Saga would find the net if they were still out there now Thompson - 7 - looked lively if lightweight, put in a couple of great crosses BWP - 6.5 - Typical performance of some promise & little product Wotte - 6 - I don't know why he wanted us to compete in a hoofball contest but that's what it became. Got the subs right, and his team did work hard for him, but the finishing from everyone, all game, was beyond woeful. Overall, like Tuesday, all is not lost, but you do wonder if we are where we are because we are simply not good enough. And the senior pros - Skacel, Saganowski & Euell who were being hailed as our saviours - again showed clearly why no-one else out there thought they were worth anything near what we are paying them, I'm afraid
-
He was so great that season that he lost his place in the team
-
Very unfair - it was right in front of us and the pass was to Euell, he swung a boot and missed it completely, which meant that Surman was off-balance and not expecting it, hence he missed it. Euell was the real culprit, not Surman
-
Not him, that's for sure
-
Not lack of effort but lack of ability
-
But not exactly original
-
And thank you for taking the trouble to add your unmissable comment
-
Also, remember, he's only just 19, adapting to playing & living in a foreign country & playing a lot of games in a struggling team. It was a gamble to sign him, but he does have something about him and I would be amazed if we don't make some good money out of him before we're done

That will be the year after next

The short sightedness in loaning out players.
sidthesquid replied to ooohTerryHurlock's topic in The Saints
How many times does this thread re-invent itself - this season, like last season, Rasiak has gone on loan because someone was prepared to take the burden of his wages on. That is all there is to say -
Not on last night's performance unless you think ten extra goal-less draws
-
My player ratings for last night Davis - 6 - not his best on a quiet night & almost dropped the ball in his own net James - 7 - okay, but not as good as recent weeks Skacel - 6.5 - likewise, also failed several times to take advantage of good situations. (Maybe I just expect more of him than he is capable of delivering) Saeijs - 7 - still impressive in defence but gave the ball away carelessly a few times Perry -7.5 - very steady Surman - 6 - not at his best Gillett - 7.5 - really growing in his role Schneiderlin - 6 - not really suited to playing out wide McGoldrick - 7 - worked hard again, tackling back & did some good work going forward Euell - 7 - worked his socks off & put himself about but never looked likely to score Saganowski - 6 - again worked hard but looked ineffective against a team defending deep Lallana - 7 - definitely added something in the second half Wotton - 6.5 - never really imposed himself Paterson - 6.5 - too late to do anything Wotte - 7 - couldn't really fault the lineup or the subs Overall it felt like one of those nights. It was a bitty, scrappy, frustrating game, not helped by a fussy referee & Derby sitting so deep. Nil-nil looked the most likely result as defences had the upper hand all night and both goals were a bit freaky. Not a disaster but not great either

Boring - we all know why he had to go out on loan, same as last season

Perhaps the poor boy is some distant relative, cursed forever by his mother's choice of name
