Certainly no gloom and doom intended for my part. However if you had taken a general census of opinion at Sunday lunchtime it would have been that come 6.15 we would have been out of the relegation zone. As a fact we are still in it and by 4 points instead of 2 (or whatever).Despite some really good results we haven't as yet got out of the drop zone. Everybody is assuming that we will beat Norwich this week-end. However if we don't we could need another 3 games after that to get out of the red zone, and then we wouldn't be far off the half-way point. What I'm saying is the the results of the last 2 league games can't be allowed to repeat themselves cos 1 point from 2 games ain't par for the course against 2 sides in the bottom quarter of the table.

If we start losing more than a handful we will be in trouble. We're 4 points off of safety already. It's not a problem but one more loss at home and we're back up the creek.

Burley Sacked as Scotland Manager

bring back the old days when players had time to complete studies and still have a good career as a professional footballer. Steve Heighway and Brian Hall (Liverpool 70's) both had university degrees. Met Steve once because of a common friend, bloody intelligent bloke was Big Bamber. -
We wre certainly improving but it is a bit worrying that we've gone 2 goals down in our last 2 league games. We got a point against Orient but this Sunday we ran out of oofle dust.

13th January 1973 Don Rogers took us apart if I remember correctly, plus my car broke down on the way back. Bad day all round.

4-4-2,4-5-1,4-3-2-1 it matters not when you have 2 central defenders gifting goals to the opposition. Trotman was gash apparently and Jaidi apparently looked very cumbersome. Once a team takes a 2 goal lead you are basically shafted if they know what they're doing and park the bus in front of their goal. It's not so much about formation but giving away goals. We could play 10-0-0 but if someone f*cks up and gives away a softy ,it is of absolutely no avail.A team is only as good as it's weakest element and in this case it was Trotman.

Now that would be Man City away in the 1963 cup run, can't think what inspired my dad to take me all the way up there, must have had free seats on a Summerbee's coach or something. Great game Derek Reeves 4 goals in a 5-0 win.

Burley made a sow's ear out of a silk purse though. -
Not saying we should start him but he seems to be really really out of favour. On the bench yesterday but unused. Mind you when you have to change one of your central defenders at half time because he is having a really bad game I suppose it limits your attacking options later on.
-
Probably explains why he didn't get called up for the U21s then.
-
Why are we not using Mellis at all? Anyone know that. I mean the lad must be really hacked off, he was in the England U21s last time but didn't get called up this time, not surprising really because we don't play him, might as well send him back to Chelsea. Is it because he's on probation ? Is that right? Never heard that before.

the Irish played 4-4-2 against the French the other night. It was like rope a dope or a small child swinging wildly at an adult who's hand was on the childs forehead.4-4-2 works if you're playing 2 brick sh*t house strikers against 2 4 foot centre halves. If not it doesn't.Unless of course you have full backs like James on both sides and a keeper who doesn't come for crosses.
-
At the end of the day the underlying reasons for yesterday's loss come down to gifting 2 goals at one end and missing or 4 fairly(straightforward) chances at the other. No team can be expected to score 3 or 4 goals every game because they give away softies at the other end. We got relegated for it last season and won't reach the expected heights this season because of it. Our defence isn't up to scratch yet and valiant though our strikers may be we just can't expect them to come up with get out of jail cards week in week out. The defence is better but it's still too slack.

and who can blame him really? His life is back up there and Preston are doing fairly well, in sight of the play-offs (for now). I'm not a fan of loans and think they should be abolished along with the "transfer window".Most players who have a successful loan in lower leagues end up back at their parent clubs or sold to the highest bidder.
-
I don't know, a couple of weeks back. There was a link on this very forum to an interview by Irvine which said that Trotman would definitely be going back to Preston in January, probably as a result of some query or other about his non-eligibility for the FA Cup game against Bristol.Try looking for a thread marked "Trotman" or something like that.
-
We really need to get a grip people. We lost because we were ****ged out because although we have a largish squad 40% is just not up to scratch. We played 2 hard games in 4 days and the regulars are knackered. As the play-offs are just a mirage in the desert, it has obviously been decided that we're "up for the cups" and are prioritorising in that direction. Trotman?? not interested cos he's probably homesick and just waiting to move back "oop north" with his partner and family. That's the trouble with loans, especially when the parent club's manager sticks his oar in where it isn"t necessary.
-
yep, you sometimes wish they'd keep their smart-ass reflections to themselves.
-
Perhaps we'd identfied that as a weakness in their game, trouble is Poyet probably changed it around in a few days, he's a pretty forceful character-or so I've heard.I was once told you don't want to be on the receiving end of a bollicking from him.
-
How many times did we say that last season? Probably just a glitch because of Wednesday but we really needed the points today.
-
2 at least, gonna be another crisis meeting at SMS this week. This loss will not sit well with the "board".21932 at SMS and we're abysmal, questions will be asked.
-
They're not a bunch of jokers, Wednesday was probably a hard game, now they have to do it all again. We have few realistic options, that's our trouble.Look at Liverpool, great 1st 11 but not much else.
-
Or if we score from one of our multiple chances which all seem to be resulting in near misses.Déjà vu here.Have we re-signed BWP and Euell?
-
Irvine said he is

Ever since the Preston manager said Trotman would be going back there Trots has lost the plot
