Well I'm not an expert on middle eastern affairs but I'd really doubt that Saudi and Iran both support Assad because they're arch enemies, two ends of a spectrum. I know that Iran supports Assad so I'd doubt that Saudi does as well. -

So it looks like we're going for the treble this season then. Out of the 2 one day competitions at the group or round robin stage and relegation...Yay, go Hampshire. -

Although it would seem to me that a few "top targets" don't seem particularly interested in joining the rigourous affray of English football. -

But wasn't the late signing of VVD something to do with Celtic's CL campaign, we had to wait until it was over to get our target. Perhaps we're targetting CL minnows again this season, perhaps we're signing someone from Lincoln Red Imps at this very moment. In fact if Valère Germain is a serious prospect, and I'd certainly hope that not to be the case, perhaps we have to wait and see what happens in the Monaco-Fenebahce tie. -

Why would top players be interested in Everton...seriously. I mean if they bought a whole team of really good players then they might have a chance of doing something but if Stekelenburg is to be their number 1 keeper then it shows their level really. -

Looks like another defeat again today, solid start, lost a couple of wickets, some quick runs from Wheater, Ervine and Dawson but they all went pretty quickly, 2 of them caught by the same bloke, off the same bowler in the same over. Does that mean they both played the same risky or unmastered shot? Anyway at 171/6 off 37 overs we'll do well to bat out our 50 and at least give the bowlers something to bowl at. -
plenty of them still seem to be knocking up young women though, à la Mick Jagger and Ronnie Wood.

What's the Southampton Marathon route going to be then? Is it as before? Oh the joys of Burgess Road after 20 odd miles. So mid/end of April'ish, they might persaude me to take up the halter again actually.

Why on earth would we any Ayews honestly. they're not really anything very special and will be off to the ACON with Ghana in a while. They're average footballers and we don't need any more of those. Their dad was a great player but they're both pretty meh..

then again there's Islam and Islam. As far as I can comprehend these Salafist people not only want to live their own lives as did the original followers of Mohammed in the year 500 Ad or so but they want all the rest of the world to do so as well. I may be wrong there though and that all they really want is a place of their own (you know like Israel or an Amish community) where they can do as they wish and not trouble the world any further with their backward ways. Should that really be the case I'm all for it, get all these burkkad women off our streets and off of our social security bill. -

Hollande and his crew have the nickname "Les Bisounours" which is what the French call the Care Bears. -

Silly doping conviction which put him aside from the end of their campaign last season and now he's playing up ? Must be a new form of transfer request I suppose. -
Ooh difficult to say, when are José and Cedric due to report back? I saw in L'Equipe that Utd have recalled all of their remaining Euro players for today, even those that made the final. I'd not want to start the real nitty gritty with Stephens, neither will Claude.

Well I think the UK is still liable for healthcare anyway. I'm not quite sure how the system works though, I know that here in France if you've not contributed to the system and have your SS Number you have an absolute minimum cover. So for British people living here without ever having contributed to the French SS system I'd think it's more likely to be private health schemes that pick up the bill for any major treatment. When you visit a GP here you pay and get reimbursed within a few days, if you don't have A Carte Vitale because you've not contributed then I doubt if the SS gives you your money (or part of it back). The system doesn't work like the GPs in the UK, where the state pays the GP and anyone registered with them consults for free (or I presume it's still like that). Here you pay and get back a proportion which depends on what it is and who you saw. For instance, my wife had a tooth replaced recently, the whole jobby cost 1600£ (for one tooth). We've got good mutuelle coverage and still ended up with over 900 out of our pocket. The state's contribution to that was about 120£. So if you're a UK pensioner living in the Dordogne or something all would come out of your pocket or any private insurance you'd take out, either in the UK or here.
-
then again if you compare the proportion of income that Britons spend in the EU and the proportion of income that all other EU residents spend in Britain I think you might find that it's significantly greater. Already you have a lot of retired people (maybe 700/880K?) who's only income comes from UK retirement funds living in France, Spain, Portugal etc, how many retired Spanish live in the UK ? Britain contributes to the economy of other member nations in more ways than just EU contribution, or I'd think so anyway..

Well perhaps you're right but I don't see a lot of "young players" in today's starting line up. There's JWP and Redmond of course but that's about it.

I'd not take it too seriously, it's just as likely paper and agent bollorks. Monaco don't want him so they're probably just trying to up the ante and get another 2 bob out of Betis Seville for the transfer. -
Why would he want to be second choice here when he actually gets to play at West Ham....
