Sholing Sports could have beaten Everton on that day. They were a right shambles because they'd sacked Koeman and let an utter, utter idiot try his hand at management. Their players (apart from the very young and very hopeless) wanted nothing to do with Ferguson and his pub side methods.
-
Obviously because we'd already sacked a far better manager than Pellegrino will ever be last summer and whoever did that for whatever reason didn't want to look silly. It was bandied about that Reed sacked Puel because he refused to change his style of football. So if Reed wanted to dictate how we play then whoever was manager is just puppet with no real control over style or results. If Southampton want to improve there is one solution....sack Reed. That has been obvious for years now.

So results wise appointing Hughes has made no difference whatsoever?
-
Probably because the Top 6 are totally dominating and there are more really bad teams than ever in the PL. Top 6 get their pick of the world's better players with no sort of control whatsoever over spending and the rest just have the priviledge of paying over the odds to dip into the lucky dip of the rest of the dross available. Same with managers.

Well no, he probably wants to be playing football just now to prepare for the World Cup. It must be really, really annoying for players in his situation when your manager won't give you any of the game time that you need.
-
Perhaps they've just become accustomed to not playing under dinosaurs like Hughes. It's not only at Saints.

(If we go down) what will you miss about the Premierleague?

Still, you've had a fair amount of time to get used to no Mitchell, he's been gone these last 3 years I believe. -
Guido Carrillo - Official: Free Transfer to Elche
Window Cleaner replied to Mr X's topic in The Saints
But there is probably far more to the Carrillo transfer than meets the eye. He was never worth the sum paid, anyone could see that so there must be something else. Unless of course we didn't pay the stated amount. -
The required defensive contribution is just too much for the likes of Boufal. He's a flair player not a work horse. Can't help thinking that if our defence was better we'd get more out of the likes of Boufal and Redmond. As it is we're having to play at least 2 hard man DM/CMs and 3 at times.
-
So why did he sign for us then. Just for the money or got a boot up the backside from Juventus who didn't care to whom they sold him as long as they got their money. Mind you didn't we have an owner like that?
-
Have a look at Lemina's game history over the years. The first thing that will smack you in the face is how few games he's managed in any one season. I think his record is about 25 or 26. Compare that to your John Terry type, 45-50 games every season over 10 or 15 years and you'll see that Lemina is either made of glass or just an utter lightweight. Juventus sold him to us for a reason, they do not sell players they want to keep, except for stupid amounts of money like Pogba.

I have no idea really, not overkeen on Hughes..never was. But then as I won't be choosing the manager for next season I'd guess it is of little importance.

Being a Saints fan, an exercise in futility?

Sold to a Qatari Sheik who eventually didn't want to pay the bills any more. Loads of sanctions from UEFA because of debts so it's no great surprise that they've hit the buffers. -

Never understood the attraction of replica shirts, let alone ones with players' names on them. And there are so many different types in the average crowd, why yesterday I even saw shirts dating back to the 2008/9 relegation and administration season; You'd think "fans" would want to forget that wouldn't you. -

Maiden Hants ton for Northeast. Pity that our 3 other top flight batsmen all got out leg before to Virdi; We might even have got close to the astronomical target if one of them had been able to stick around. -
Looking at the squad we could be left with...
Window Cleaner replied to Dazza82's topic in The Saints
Hasn't made a single PL appearance this season from what I can see. There's probably a reason for that, other than him being an old, hoofing thug that is. I believe he had some sort of minor judicial issues a while back, perhaps they were less minor than apparent. -
A lot of football fans aren't even fans. They compare every performance to what they've seen of Citeh and Utd on match of the day.

Who knows, they are both the type of player who always has and probably always will lack consistency. They'd probably both be just fine as bit part replacements in Top 8 sides. I believe I said so at the time of transfer speculation about both of them. In the case of Lemina, Juventus don't sell players they want to keep unless the price is ridiculous. Saints need to learn from Lemina, Gabbidiani and Hoedt about "available" players from top Italian sides. -

Drat, drat, drat; Rossouw out leg before to the off spinner. That makes Vince, Amla and Rossouw all out in the same manner when looking set. Either the lad Virdi is pretty good or our batsmen have serious defaults against that type of bowling. -
I see him more at PSG but not as manager. Could return to Monaco I suppose. The France job would be a bit of a trap for any old manager. Deschamps has been remarkably successful in the main but the French want Zidane in the job really.
-
Probably does but it won't be with Southampton FC.
-
But as Bournemouth have no pressure upon them whatever Saints fans do won't make a jot of difference to them. They're professional footballers who've seen it all before, coming to the end of what has been for them, a successful season.

That's probably why there are no british refs at the World Cup this year. British refs have a tendance to interpret the rules after their fashion. They do not apply the rules as they stand in many instances. It keeps the game flowing on occasions but it's a constant source of controversy.
