  1. Somerset losing wickets cheaply, thankfully for us because we might keep them down to 200-210 .
  2. Down at Taunton today, Hants bowling first for a change and what a catastrophic start it is. Somerset 34/0 off 2 thanks to a horror show over from Abbott which went for 25, mind you there were some no balls in it. He's just not a 1 day bowler is he. Good in the 4 day game but at T20 he's a liabilty. Mind you all of our bowlers are getting thrashed today, we've tried 5 so far, one over each and Topley is looking the best of them having only gone for 9.
  3. It won't be us so I'd not even bother to get excited over it, deception is usually a result of getting overexcited about something that was never going to happen anyway.
  4. And so it goes, first it's a top league, then a top club and then a club topper than top. It's called ambition I suppose. Some people are just like that, always want to be moving forward, I know I was, applied for a new posting almost every year.
  5. Except that compared to what he can get elsewhere he's not paid particularly well. Dutch press said about 60K/week if you like it in those terms, can easily get double elsewhere but for me it's no Europe that's the problem. Maybe that will cause a bit of a pay cut all round. And then we don't know what sort of friction his injury may have caused between himself and the club.
  6. Ashley has had a big win in the courts today, apparently you don't have to honour multi million quid deals made when you were pîssed or something. Think they were already bidding a lot of money for Carvahlo a while back.
  7. My guess would be Newcastle or Arsenal. But Arsenal have just signed or are about to sign a defensive midfielder, Bosnian I think. So Newcastle.
  8. Different types of fella really. VvD has been here what 2 years and Schneiderlin had been with the club for 6 at the time. Also in 2014 we'd already sold a stack of players and the axe just fell on Morgan. If he'd gone first it could easily have fallen on Lallana or Chambers.
  9. Saturday's match is at Chambery isn't it ?
  10. Well it sounds like many "factual opinions" that I've heard in public houses from time to time. My opinion that clubs don't want to deal with us because we're asking for too much to be paid too quickly is probably just as valid. Mind you I haven't been inside a pub these last 3 years and no one in my local caff is interested in Saints anyway.
  11. He did indeed, before my time in '53.
  12. And the JRod money has half gone on Polish chappy. Plus new contracts here and there with signing bonuses and agents fees.
  13. I don't think they give it to you in a lump sum, isn't some of it staged over the whole year ? We get about 122 million I think, probably about the place money all at once and all of the rest spread over the year. So 1x25 million or so and 12x8 million. As our salarial mass is somewhere around 75 million there's not a whole lot left over from just the monthly PL pay cheque. Then there are all of the other expenses of the season. There will be something from Europe but as we didn't progress very far it won't be all that much. Liverpool made 35 million or so by reaching the final in 15/16 but for a group stage exit we'll probably get about 4 million, from that we have to pay our costs. These training camps must cost a pretty packet as well and it's not the Saints XI vs Odds and Sods XI that's going to finance them. A trip to S. E Asia would be far more profitable, that's why everyone's down there. Oh and I forgot, we had to pay off the manager we sacked. Plus 6 million and change agents fees over the 12 months
  14. It really isn't that simple. How do you think Chelsea manage their loss year after year after year ? Owners can inject cash up to 30 million a season now providing they have a "break even plan" for the future (tomorrow is always tomorrow right !). Player purchases can now be budgeted over the length of the contract and future commercial revenue and player sale increases taken into account to "balance" it all out. At the end of the day big clubs lose a packet every season and their owners make it up, or promise to do so one way or another. When your owner has no money you are doomed to increasing mediocrity until you fall out of the trap at whatever level you've fixed it.. Saints need more readies, isn't that the reason that KL gave for seeking further investment, ie a sale to a not so well known Chinese entity? Read the Swiss Ramble, complex but you'll see some stuff you'd not really believe possible.
  15. And whyever not, they have some money from Arnautovic and I think they're trying to offload Imbula to nouveau riche Monaco.
  16. And Monaco's mouthpiece has replied. http://rmcsport.bfmtv.com/football/mercato-monaco-dement-l-accord-avec-le-real-pour-mbappe-1223703.html It's all just agents shaking the bag.
  17. Wayne Bridge was the last I remember but there have probably been others since.
  18. That's what FFP lets them do. They just pay their match ticket (up to 30 million a season now) a bit more than the bloke in Row Z.
  19. So much for finishing Top 4, 2 seasons in a row then. Didn't think Toby had a particularly good season last year, not in Europe anyway.
  20. I think some Monaco players see last season as a bit of a flash in the pan. Monaco is OK for non French citizens but the French nationals can't be fiscally resident in Monaco and get knocked ass over tit by French taxation. Monaco can't pay their taxes for them either.
  21. Unconfirmed though despite what Marca may be saying. Monaco don't seem to have heard about the deal being finalised, well not yet anyway.
  22. But that was in a world cup year so he'd have been back later anyway. Of course you could argue that VvD's case is possibly injury influenced.
  23. Hmmm, Chelsea getting hammered by Bayern today so perhaps a couple of hundred million on defenders might not go amiss...
  24. Strange isn't it, after all these years where all and sundry have bandied about figures in the 3 billion + range, the owner has never dropped a hint that she has nowhere near those sums. I have been blasted on several occasions for trying to delude you all...
