  1. and don't forget that they have a massive top of the table clash against 3rd in the league MK dons this weekend - who I thought looked pretty ordinary at SMS. says a lot about the standard of this division. There is no doubt that the commentators on sky were really surprised with the quality of of our play last night though
  2. The bottom line of his "all time playing career" gives an insight into his non-progression as a professional footballer: Portsmouth 01-07-2003 23-12-2004 Trainee Clearly he got a full all round introduction to the basics!!
  3. Definitely and with a doubt one of the best players I've ever seen in a Saints shirt (and that includes when he was playing )
  4. Anyone go to the (thinking hard) 5th round league cup at White hart Lane - winter of about 70/71? Started snowing on the way up - the gates at WHL opened about 7 in a blizzard and the game was called off at about 7.15. About 50 saints fans then had a massive snowball fight in Trafalgar Square - got back to waterloo to discover most trains cancelled - got what happened to be the last train to soton which broke down at Basingstoke - finally pulled into soton central about 4am
  5. LJ is improving all the time - but I feel he is too slow for right back (he struggled a couple of times today). Murty is ideal and LJ as right wing half would be perfect for him as he is really looking good going forward and he is beginning to put some really telling crosses into the box

  7. classic :smt045
  8. if you read that article the telling part of it is....... Apart from the first ten minutes (and that's being generous) and the free-kick and resulting goal, they didn't look too impressive to me

  10. Hmmmm...excellent read zd - but what worries me is, why didn't you take the opportunity to use rupert lowe as a subject for experiments with your postgrad students?? You could have changed the destiny of SFC and saved us all the agony of the past few years :smt103
  11. Any one into real ale could try William IV, 816 High Road, Leyton it's a bit further but is a brew pub and is home of the Brodie's brewery that opened in September 2008 - highly recommended (by me) :drinkers:

  13. Watched the game on telly - and the thought of a beckford 1 on 1 with james does not excite me.
  14. Hi Eric & Phil, You might feel at home next time you back to blighty if the uk ragheads have their way.............. http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/134080/Now-Muslims-demand-Give-us-full-Sharia-law
  15. amazing - thats almost (apart from the 3-6 place) a perfect normal distribution. Probably suggests that almost everyone has given the position that they really think saints will finish in, rather than where they really hope we'll finish. So the most probable outcome is mid-table! Presumably some statistician on here will say I'm completely wrong!
  16. I read that as catering manager - and wonderered if he was coming to SMS to follow in lowes culinary footsteps bit early in the morning for me
  17. I lived in the UAE for eight years and met Hodgson a few times in Dubai when he was manager of the UAE. He was always the real gentleman, but was really shafted and taken for granted by the locals. I haven't listened to the programme yet (but will do) so don't know if he mentioned his short spell in the UAE? must have been around 2002/03 (although my memory is fading - must be the sun). The official line is that he was sacked because the UAE didn't do very well in the Gulf Cup. But the true and rarely quoted version is that he wasn't allowed to pick the team he wanted. The UAE FA was run by one of the sons of the ruler/president (the Al Nahyan family) who also owned the top team in the UAE at that time - Al AIn (who played in an obscene purple strip) - he wanted Hodgson to basically pick the team that he wanted. This came to a head in the Gulf Cup and Hodgson essentially walked out - in fact he went back to Europe after the tournament and didn't return Shortly after that I met John Burridge a few times in Muscat in Oman. I used to visit Muscat regularly and when John first went out there he was staying at the same hotel - another great guy
  18. and this one creased me up too "Pompey chimes sound like death knell" http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/portsmouth/article6857635.ece
  19. Looks like its getting to their new owner........... from the Times "ulaiman al-Fahim 'admitted to a Dubai hospital'" http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/portsmouth/article6858235.ece
  20. Just happen to be having a couple of beers next to the river in Torun, northern Poland and it seems that Saga and Raziak are almost legends here in Poland. Personally, I've always rated Saga and I reckon he will really come good in div 3 sooner rather than later
  21. If he doesn't get a game on Saturday perhaps he can teach the Northam to sing
  22. My daughter bought me an 'engraved' (so it said on the box) Saints whiskey glass for christmas about 5 years ago - it came out of the dishwasher minus the engraving!
  23. I'm disgusted () that an MLT Corinthian player and authentic MLT signature goes for only 99p! There I was thinking I was sitting on a retirement fund of similar stuff!
  24. I'm assuming from alan pardew's comment above that our previously non-existent scouting system haven't actually seen him play yet? but that he came highly recommended by some money grabbing agents??
  25. I'm driving - we are in the lake district for the weekend staying with my sister-in-law - but I'll be OK for a couple before the game! I'll keep an eye on this space!
