  1. Not in my recollection he didn't. I seem to recall him being substituted to a standing ovation near the end as he had simply run himself into the ground. I also thought it was hist first start rather than first appearance. I was sat in the East stand with my stepdad (a Chelsea supporter, but I won't hold that against him) who said something about Jimmy Greaves being the previous youngest, but I've got no facts to back that up.
  2. ...and if that goal had been scored by LeFondre against Boruc would you have still thought the same way? lol
  3. I'm still waiting for the day that I see a Saints shirt for sale in a shop in Australia!
  4. The lads obviously got talent but I've seen more "off days" than "on days" so far this season. He got into some great positions yesterday but his finishing was abysmal and there were a few times when he appeared totally disinterested - I remember one occasion in particular where we had a throw-in and he was the closest player to the throw-in taker, and he just turned his back on him. He certainly doesn't seem to suit the style/pace that Pochettino is using at the moment. It certainly feels like there is an issue somewhere. I would love to see him come good, as when on form, he is obviously a game changer.
  5. We've certainly had "the rub of the green" today so far. Reading are playing us at our own game with regards to the pressing. Let's see what tactical changes The Pochmeister comes up with at half time. we've had too many sloppy passes, Hooiveld is having one of those days where he just looks like a penalty waiting to happen, and we're winning despite Ramirez rather than because of.
  6. Agree with 6 of your 7 in terms of spending power (and current squad), but although Everton may have a better history and a bigger ground than us - but I don't believe they are in a better financial position. As for keeping our "best" players, I don't care if we do sell them - on the proviso we replace them with better players. I happen to believe though, that if we replace three or four of the "journeymen" players with 40 millions quids worth of proven talent, along with our team and work ethic, we could sneak 6th or 7th next year or the year after
  7. We're bankers for this one. 3-0 Saints and that's the title sewn up. oh....hang on... that was 12 months ago and we all know how that went, so perhaps I'll stick $20 on a Reading win this time.... If we lose this one then it's typical Saints...if we DO actually win, then perhaps we really will have turned a corner in the professionalism stakes
  8. Shouldn't have to say this, but the pedants on here seem to insist on it.... IF WE STAY UP.... With the current squad I could see us finishing (barely) top half - but with a significant gap between us and the top 5 or 6. Would be happy to tie Boruc down to a new contract but failing that we HAVE to get a top notch keeper from somewhere (no idea who though). If we can keep all our best players and add a class CB and a genuine midfield playmaker, along with Robin Van Persie (joke) then we could challenge top 6. Definitely need to get rid of alot of fringe players though, to give some of the better young ones the opportunity to get in amongst the first team squad as well.
  9. I think it's great that at least half the team most weeks is English, and that most of them wouldn't look out of place in an england setup. I just hope we can keep the majority of them
  10. Waaay worse off. 10 years ago was half way through paying off the mortgage, and on a reasonable wage and married to someone with an even better paid job and great pension lined up. Gave her the flick and moved to Australia with next to nothing. I'm now 53 and just taken out a new 30 year mortgage which is 4 times the size of the one I had 10 years ago. Remarried, and in local terms, earning below average for a couple. At current rates will still be working at 75, maybe even 80 if I live that long and anyone will still have me! Don't regret moving for a second though.
  11. I think we will be as erratic as usual for the rest of the season, but still good enough to get another 8 or 9 points which will see us safe. I've got a feeling that one team is going to sink like a stone. I'd LOVE it to be West Ham...but have a feeling Norwich are going to be the ones. it's whether both Villa and Wigan can get enough points to catch them. If Norwich lose their games to both of those it could be a nail-biting last couple of games. Would be interesting if all 3 go into the final game on the same points, especially as Wigan will be playing villa and a draw could see them both stay up
  12. ironic that a poster with the username of a Saints footballing legend should spout such utter sh!t about the game, don't you think?
  13. 3 wins 3 draw will see us safe before the final day.....IF......one of those wins is away to Reading. If we don't win that one then it will be down to the final game of the season. I still think Reading,QPR & the winner of the final game of the season between Wigan & Villa will decide the 3rd spot. QPR still have an outside chance of escaping though, as they still have to play Reading, Villa & Wigan but I can't see them winning all 3 of those.
  14. Different types of player playing for a team with different styles of play. Would Benteke score more goals playing in our team? would Lambert score more goals playing for Villa? At the moment my money would be on Lambert coming out on top. However...playing Benteke alongside Lambert - that to me would be a mouth watering prospect (sorry Jay-Rod). Benteke is worth more money because he has potential to improve and has 10 years ahead of him, barring injury. Straight choice this season or next though, I'd rather have Lambert if I had to choose one.
  15. Champions League is a target, as is winning the League. whether it's achievable or not - well, I guess we'll find out over the coming years. Saying it is impossible is simply not true. Anything can and does happen, albeit infrequently. Do you think Wimbledon supporters thought hey would ever play in the top division of the English league when they were a non-league team? Do you think Blackburn really thought they could win the league before Jack Walker invested his millions? Man City and Chelsea could go bust or lose their backing. Man Utd could lose their players in a plane crash (what? impossible...). Liverpool could employ a succession of shyte managers...oh wait, that DID happen... If you were a Man City fan in the 89th minute of the last league game of last season, would you REALLY have bet your house on them winning the League? Some things happen slowly, some happen in almost an instant, but never give up the dream I'm just enjoying the ride and praying that we really do have the funds to do what we are currently doing and that we're never, ever, going to be a Poopey
  16. Terry Curran
  17. Top Class Keeper, Centre Back, Right wing, goal poacher. Of course if Ramirez and Mayuka step up to the plate properly then just the 1st 2.
  18. Bottom 3 look to be QPR Villa & Wigan, looking at those fixtures. IT certainly won't be us if we can keep the same intensity of perfomance up for the rest of the season. Even if it's not them, I think 35 points will be enough to stay up. No worries now.
  19. What...no Ivan Golac?
  20. That was just terrierble! a husband say to his wife "you know dear i wanna do something kinky tonight & cum in your ear" the wife looks at him horrified and says " dont be stupid i might go deaf" hubby looks at her and says "whos been silly now?.... i've been cum'n in ya mouth for 20yrs & you still manage to nag me"
  21. ...it's Plantaganet...
  22. I think one area that doesn't get considered enough when planning for the future, is that generally, fans are loyal and once they have picked a team they stick with them. How many of us older fans actually started out by going to reserve games for free, or by going in the kids sections when we were younger? It certainly kept my interest when I was too broke to pay for a ticket myself as a kid. We should be practically GIVING tickets to U16's (up to a certain number to both give some exclusivity plus if we gave all our tickets to kids we would soon go broke...lol), and then maybe a staggered price until a certain age. If we increased the stadium to 48k and gave 10,000 free tickets to kids (provided they came with one paying adult), we'd be building our fan base for future years. Yes, it would be a cash flow deficit to start with, but we're looking at the long term here.
  23. I think Gaston will come good. He has the class but just seems to be off-form at the moment. form is temporary, class is permanent. I think Clyne has struggled a little because Puncheon has struggled and is leaving Clyne exposed. Once they sort out a replacement for Puncheon I think Clyne will be Ok. Puncheon looks like the first player to be replaced and will be on his way soon and tbh I wish we had sold him and cashed in in the transfer window as I don't think he will get a new contract. Assuming everyone is fit, I'd be bringing in Lallana in his place for Man City.
  24. Watched the whole game on delay at 8.30 this morning (so I slept in and managed to avoid knowing the score beforehand). Strange game. 2 really good goals by us. 2 even better chances missed. 2 soft goals (Yoshida, if you're going to leave your man and go for the header, you HAVE to head it!) from set pieces. Not sure why Clyne went off and dropped Cork back into defence, disrupting the midfield role that he had been doing superbly imho. Should have been Puncheon off at that point. Really enjoyed watching the whole game and was really expecting Ricky to earn a pen and get his 100th, rather than Wigan sneaking an undeserved equalise. I certainly didn't think we were playing pretty football. There was good pressing up front and controlled passing out from the back (other than when it was passed back to Boruc who had little option but to hoof it up the field. Shame Shaw left the near post for the equaliser as he had played superbly up to that point. Schneiderlin and Cork were superb in midfield. Lambert had a great game up front and some of his passes were exquisite. JayRod looked the part, and Boruc is looking more and more assured. As most have already said, Ramirez was disappointing and Puncheon flattered to deceive and frequently chose the wrong option, just like Wednesday. 2 points out of 9 could and should have been 7. Hopefully that's our dodgy spell out the way and we can play with the same intensity and passion and we'll get some luck for a change.
  25. Have a feeling Punch might be on the bench today...Lallana to come in and Shaw for Fox as the only changes from Wednesday.
