That'll save all the trouble of playing all those league games just to finish third The play-offs are a big con designed specifically to relieve the football fan of even more of his funds by both the FL and television. If a team finish third in their league then they have earned promotion and should not have to surrender it to a team that finishes sixth, on a one-off game of chance, as did Cardiff and Blackpool two seasons ago and indirectly, eventually cost the Cardiff manager his job. Huddersfield finished third last season and deserved to be promoted on merit instead of being conned out of promotion by the money-grabbing Football League and their stupid play-off's. Promotion should be earned over the season and not left to chance, like Blackpool, who finished 6th two seasons ago. Why bother with a league programme, draw lots in August and have done with it.
