BBC annoyed with Daily Echo over Saints coverage
Smirking_Saint replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
Horrible little paper -
Lol Well ok the difference was the company i work for paid the Uni directly to make a course to suit my job and so i got an electrical engineering degree paid for whilst also drawing a salary. And that is the way which i think it should be done, why should further education be free just because it is now ? Why should it be so readily available ? I would assume around 80% of those that go to uni do some sort of micky mouse degree and probably 50% of the 20% that actually do something worthwhile will never gain a job that has anything to do with their qualification. My god, some people think this world owes them a living, no wonder the country is in so much sh*t

bringing through the talent - and keeping it

He is probably stronger, better technically and definately has a better brain than a young Walcott. He has pace but does not possess that blistering pace Walcott has. All in all, Walcott was probably a better bet than Chambo at the same age however i would argue that Chambo has easily the potential to reach the same levels as Walcott and i don't reckon he is far off his overall ability at the same age. -

bringing through the talent - and keeping it

No one will really, especially not when they get to the ages of around 21 etc which is probably when 'development' slows down and players need to look for positive regular football IMO. However NC has his ideas (whether his or someone elses) in the right places, a strong and well built youth policy backed up with a full up to date and scientific staff/facilities goes a very very long way to selling yourself to youth players and their parents. IMO i think we will be in a good place to bring youth through in a few years as long as we are at least a top NPC side. Even if we keep a fairly youthfull and talented side that stays together until 21 or so we will be in a good place. Add to this fees gleemed from the players and it helps to make you self sufficient, in the future perhaps if we are looking steady in the prem we may be able to keep ahold of players but any outstanding products are of course going to leave. IMO as well, the south coast which is probably a much more attractive part of England except for the bussle of London must also pay a large part in attracting players. -
One of my favourite albums this year has been Tinnie Tempah's TBF. But i don't really buy many albums these days, just compile playlists. Strangely i have seen my musical taste really widen and move over the past few years, i mean 5 years ago i was a massive classic rock, metal and grunge fan. Nowadays is rarely listen to it at all and have moved to R&B, rap, dubstep and trance. Don't know why really.

No, thats just my opinion, i am not forcing it on anybody, just never been my cup of tea. I don't really know much about the bloke as i have no interest in the beatles or mr lennon, but the little i have seen of him he seemed to be a very arrogant so and so. But there you go, my 5 eggs are in

I do think he is what we need at the helm aswell. Ok, he will and has trodden on a few people and upset some more but that is what business is like and football is as cutthroat as many of them. The man speaks positively, seems to thrive on success and aims very strongly towards achieving it. I have bought into his positivity and think that with him (sometimes bulldozing) making his way towards his goal i think we will make it. Better than anything we have had in the past 10 years or so.

TBF i think students have had it bloody easy over the past few years and need to start towing the line next to everyone else out there. Yes they are the 'future' for the country however they will get paid for the effort they put in so why should each and everyone of us pay them for the privilage of advancing themselves ? At the end of the day if all funding for students was removed then industry leaders will then gleam the pit of talent for the most potential and pay for them to be put through degrees anyways and thus filling the quota for the next engineers, doctors etc. Anyone that believes industry will just look around with their hands in their pockets wondering whats going on does not understand how business works. As a country we have been bleeding money for years and in times like these we need to cut out pointless and wasteful spending which includes coming down hard on those precious students and also the benefit community. (obviously i fully support those most in need). And before anyone says anything, i am a graduate.

I have never liked john lennon, the beatles or the mini-beatles (Oasis) In fact i would go as far as saying Lennon was a bit of a bell-end

I apologise if i was in any part involved in the hijacking. I am glad your grandfather has now been granted his wishes.

TBF, there has been hardly anyone moaning on this thread and the general consensus is that this is a positive move from Cortese. I too think his PR had left a lot to be desired, as did his relationship with the media (probably the same thing really) but i am hopeful he has learnt from the damning he was getting from the press etc. Also kudos that he is continuing with meeting the fans in those dinner meetings, i hope we see a thread about what was talked about.

I don't think anyone can really tell if they are lying without being an incredible behavioural expert or knowing a lot more about the person. I also personally don't think lie detector machines work.

Lol I am not sure me and you will ever agree on Pardew. And as i said, i am not going to hide any agendas, i have heard things both before and after his Saints appointment and IMO he is just not a very nice, egotistical little man. But putting personal agendas aside i have to say that he was very much a long ball merchant, his teams did look very narrow and IMO he struggled to change things when it started to go wrong both in matches and over the course of the season. He did ok with us, he should IMO have achieved the playoffs but he didn't get us firing quite quick enough and then failed to keep us consitent towards the end, lets be realistic, with the money spent we should have been right up there and we were never going to be relegated however came in. He may do well at Newcastle, but i can't see it, he is going into a bad situation from the off and has never been good when the going gets tough. -
New training ground plans available to view now...
Smirking_Saint replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
If it all comes together, which i am sure it will then it really is a statement of intent. Hopefully this round of planning and consequent building work should all go through hitch free, i will let you know if there are any developments that i hear about. I mean, there is no way that a team who is not expecting to be in the premiership any time soon would spend such a massive amount on upgrading to top facilities. I am genuinely excited. -
He wouldn't, would he ?? It could be him, i did hear rumours it was his son involved in one of the takeovers or bringing someone to the table so that could add weight, plus whenever Lawrie writes or talks about NC it is hardly a glowing reference. I doubt we will ever know, TBH i don't even care too much, as long as my beloved Southampton keeps being strengthened and remains financially secure.

TBF we are coming across as a bunch of whinging losers.

If you listen to the interview, from around 2mins onward (can't remember exactly) he talks about the destabalizing rumours. He says something along the lines of the fact that there were always people attached to the clubs throughout the years and stayed attached, drawing salaries etc and when the 'swiss group' came in they were annoyed and made life difficult for them to take over the club. He said they attempted to come back into the club and draw money again but he would not allow anyone in the club that is not adding anything to it. He said they often appear and start spreading rumours every now and again and believes that this rumour was held until now to try and destabilize them at this time when they are looking to complete contracts with sponsors etc. I think. Who could that be ?
-
No idea, an ex bid team member perhaps ?? Who was the group that thought they were not listened to ? Kept on the back burner ? The daily echo ?? Another member of the press ?
-
I did say this to a cousin at the start of the season, he said to me they should not concentrate on Champions league and should instead ensure they are up in the top 4 again next year. I told him to behave and realise that they may not be in CL again for a little while, what with the normal big four and also Man City getting in on the act. IMO they couldn't have both and it would have taken a miracle to repeat the feats of last season back2back. He is still a very good manager and will probably do a superb job for england, unfortunately as much as i hate the bloke i would happily have him as our national manager.
