  1. Weirdly we looked our best against spurs playing what I think u mean as the Southampton way, needs confidence and also bravery (wgs always banged on about bravery!) to work and slightly quicker passing. I don't think that either of the ways you suggest genuinely plans to include terrible defensive balls ups so could argue it doesn't really matter. Rather lose passing than lose humping it any day
  2. Clearly not a right back but in my opinion best cb on our books and more to progress as he settles in. Our only cb with any composure on the ball and he didn't struggle against Fellini when he pushed up against him, more than can be said for most prem cbs so far this year! Dumb opening post in my opinion, especially when he is the one you say should be played out of all out cbs.... Clearly he is better then
  3. For the record i think this is a good post and interesting and i agree with it. The only other thing is that we can say that Fonte is good but bad with Hooiveld yet we do not blame Fonte for Hooiveld being bad?
  4. thanks dibden - its interesting stats that although people will tel you mean nothing at all to do with our future (and of course is the case for all stats) i enjoyed reading it - so cheers
  5. slightly obtuse thread - very clearly different people will take different lengths of time for a multitude of reasons both professional and personal. Settling in time is one thing in a team but quite clearly some players (and not just new ones) need time bedding in the prem itself - we simply dont train against a frontline of Tevez, Aguero and Silva every week. There is also a personall spin on things - some people would wnat 7m spent on someone who is going to cut it week in week out, others on someone that could be a future star. You can justify someone as being bad purchase just as soon as you like and suits your want, however that wont mean its the same in everyones eyes. Either way, unless they are clearly useless, its going to take time for the whole set up to bed in to playing games in the prem and we need to give undivided support during this time - it makes a difference on the pitch and you never know it could be the difference between finishing in the position we are now or one place below.
  6. I know what you're saying but I'm glad the question was asked. I had started to wonder with the number of negative threads if I was being naive by wanting to stick with Adkins (promoted, promoted, 17th so far - an excellent excellent record- and a decent bloke with a possible bright bright future). But turns out that the vast minority are simply more vocal and also that the only argument those with common sense have is wait and see which isn't much for a debate! Hope nc reads this and sees 95% with nige. Good luck bringing in a manager that 95% would be happy with!
  7. my mrs spotted the rats tail and its definitely impairing my judgement! Genuinely good start to his saints career and righfully his jersey at the moment. I wonder if he will sometimes be exposed at the far post as he sets up very very close to the near post (but then we did all moan about the near post kelvin errors so cant have everything!). Good confidence and could argue he earned us a point which could be invaluable at the end of the season, well done lad for taking a huge step up in your stride
  8. Are we never signing players again because we didn't sign enough this summer? That's a shame
  9. the calls for yoshida at left back are not good - we finally seem to have a calm, assured cb and we wanna move him! Has to stay at cb. Personally want clyne back to righ back where he will be far more effective, he stiffles adam going forward as only can cut in not overlap properly. Time for reeves in at the deep end? maybe. Time for Seaborne at left back? maybe, but deffo need a left footer in there in my opinion
  10. Full backs an issue, Clyne on the left makes lallana quiet and stops him roaming at tight back. Jrod either needs to work back better or score his one on one chance. Yoshida looked strong against a very physical Fellani and calm in position but needs a solid back four to look better
  11. Touch and accuracy great but I always think I've never watched anyone who strikes the ball so hard. Both that and the pen past the keeper before he had a chance. Argued with a mate he would score at this level and one of my reasons was how true he hits a football - where are the poncy prem "how hard someone kicks it" stats when u need em
  12. Kraken - would you like us to get relegated this year?
  13. dont get me wrong - defenders are a must but if on 65 mins we brought him on i think we could well have had an experienced head that would have got us continuing the more free flowing football that had united in trouble and looking poor
  14. i for one am glad we pulled out of the buttner deal purely to put all our efforts in to getting ramirez, so what you cant look for more than one player on once it was the right decision. Its clear that the number of pages on a thread he directly relates to the effort wasted by the club in signing a player. We know for a fact that saints had a limited budget and couldnt afford a defender if we bought the if players we did and good decisions made too. It was definitely best to ignore all the top class defenders knocking at NAs door at 5pm on the last day of the season and try to complete deals in a mad rush at the end of thewindow like everyone else. Maybe a defender or two short, maybe unlucky in the window maybe not, maybe Yoshida will be great maybe not, maybe we'll bring in a transfer maybe not, maybe a forum is for discussion opinion or maybe its for speculating so that your opinion is validate - we'll see - enjoy the ride numpties
  15. im not a mod so apologise for seeming like telling people what to do etc but this is the Gaston Ramirez thread. If i want to ignore people on the "lack of transfer activity thread" i can do but i cannot ignore what is meant for another thread on this thread when i am simply trying to find out whats going on with this transfer. Its easy for threads to get sidetracked and people often have to respond when slagged off but there are threads relevant for the above discussions and its f***ing boring reading about it when you dont want to. Thge forum is simple - i pay my fiver to read the threads i want to not to read the views of some people about the same issue on every single thread. PLease stop ruining this board. If i want to be a happy clappy then i have the right to - if i want to read everything i have the right to - if i want to be negative i can do but please put it in the right places so people can read what they pay to ps i do see the irony of posting this on this thread but it is relavent to this thread now lol!
  16. If you do not understand that the things that get in the way of attending football matches are less of an issue for big games you are one of two things. Either on the wind up or a complete idiot, either way no real point in trying to reason
  17. love the fact that i cant even decide between the le tissier goal vs newcastle and the other goal he scored that game let alone the rest of his career! class
  18. sold - apologies all - please delete, cheers
  19. saints triupmgh will pm today with my phone number. Apologies lobbster - first come first serve seems only fair deceision. Will pm you tonight to confirm either sold to triumph or available for you. cheers. can lock thread mods if you want - thanks
  20. Apologies to all not interested, i have a pair of tickets in trhe kingsland for sale - cost price of course and can meet me outside st marys to pick up. Would rather sell as a pair so let me know if interesed (pm is probably better than posting a phone number on the internet probably!) cheers
  21. to be fair there was a very recent "what was the point in buying sharp" thread. The injury situation made me think of that recent thread, not everyone on there thought it was obvious why we needed him (although maybe they had seen him practising penalties)
  22. if hes out for the season adkins wouldnt release it until after the blackpool game. very keen to keep his cards close to his chest for each game and so wouldnt give anything away about the team. A team vs saints will defensively concentrate on playing vs Lambert as he is the top scorer by miles in the league.
  23. its hard to argue pro lowe when the clbu ended up gping in to administration. That said there are similarities with the "sustainable" approach Lowe was in some areas promoting. Its what Madejski has been trying to provide at reading and although its not always exhilerating for the fans it provides a nice stability and when you get somewhere youve really earnt it. COmparing Lowe and COrtese (not the OP but others) is a waste of time. COrtese is amazing but a very different set up. Adkins has been brilliant (im an Adkins luvvie for sure) but anyone who has played league sport at any level will know that a winning team is far easier to play in and manage than a losing team. Starting the new generation in League 1 rather than hanging on th coat tails of the prem could have been an advantage in some areas. It will be interesting to see after 10 yrs in the prem (fingers crossed) how we feel. Look at being an everton fan, i for one would love them to win the FA cup as a well run, well managed stable club
  24. Thank you. WIFM
  25. i would love to see kelvin score but a tiny bit **** taking i think and i would be praying for him to hit the post the rebound to go to one of their team who scores a 70yr goal making us look like deserved muppets! its a good idea but not hugely classy when thought about for a bit. that said if he tried to backheel it and scored then it would be cool and therefore so **** takey that i wouldnt care. in summary. if taken normally... Lambert. If back heel.... Kelvin
