If Connolly had arrived a split second earlier to get the rebound off the keeper in the last 10 seconds, we would have won 3-2. I had a great view of that and the toe of his boot was sooooo close to the ball before the keeper/defender claimed it.

I'd say that if KD had been (literally) on his toes he would have comfortably saved the first one. He takes a couple of short steps and loses all spring leaving him flatfooted. As for the second he had, IMO, ample time to come out and collect the cross in front of NT. Don't get me wrong, I rate him, but I do feel he could be more commanding with crosses.

Not getting Beckham then..

I'm looking on Google Satellite. Is the parking at the Wellington just at the pub or do they make some of the green land around the pub and church available? Normally I use public transport but I need to drive to this one from work.

Can't we use that system where everyone crowds round the ball and moves it slowly up the field? Any opposition player trying to break the ring will need to tackle one of our team 'off the ball', therefore incurring a foul.

The sssssshhhhhhh one comes a close second, especially when Arshavin does it.

Interesting to hear AP's take on this topic, now on the OS http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1844680,00.html

Yes, it was named after me. Yours, Bradley Stoke, Orkneys.

I've noticed recently that a significant amount of professional footballers are also making a living as farmers. Unfortunately, this is affecting their availability for matches as they always seem to be 'nursing a calf injury'. Yours, Nempnett Thrubwell, St.Kilda. ...and no nicking 'em from the original comic, alright? I have every issue and will check!

Pre- match atmosphere at the pub Well I did the 8 mile walk from Paddington in about the same time as the website suggested by Pancake (2 hours 8 mins), without busting a gut. I've never walked through the East End before. I couldn't believe how warm it was. I was sweating buckets as I approched the Balls Pond Road so stopped for a cold drink and was accosted by three 'ard as nails East End grey squirrels for my trouble. Saw the famous Hackney Empire and an original Banksie (the Tesco one) in Islington. On the approach to Leyton, a grand view of the Olympic constructions. Got to Leyton High Road and boxed clever by buying my underground ticket before the game. Tried to find the shop where I bought my customised Suzuki GT 250 back in 1975 but it seemed to have gone. Thoroughly enjoyed the match and not much to add to the other posters. We should have won handsomely but there will be days like this, hopefully not too many. All I would say about the formation discussion is that we should have been 3-1 up at half-time before we changed, but it does seem to make a difference, though. Thought Saints fans were great and singing was non-stop but fragmented into disparate pockets. We finished singing a song, only to hear another section half way through a completely different one, lol. Fun on the tube going back as you could hear singing from other carriages and various versions of 'your not getting on' every time we stopped, because all the other lines were closed and everyone was trying to get on the Central line. Upon my return to Paddington, I ate a large pasty sat at the feet of Isambard Kingdom Brunel before catching the train home. Up for t'Cup on Friday. Keep the Faith COYR

Listening to the local Southend commentary on their game tonight on SaintsPlayer. Apparently some of their fans will be out with the buckets at Orient tomorrow - 'Save Our Shrimpers'.

Cheers, I'll bear that in mind for the future.

Excellent site, thanks. I may out do the Charlton trek and walk both ways from Paddington. Apparently it is 8.6 miles or 15051 steps and I will use up 871 calories, saving 1.08 kg of CO2 each way.

And those corners would definitely cause a ladder or two..

The ultimate irony would be that if they ever did, FC United of Manchester buying Old Trafford from them!!
