  1. Rangnick has sort of crept up on the blindside a bit here, but is a candidate worthy of consideration. Schalke are the 3rd biggest team in Germany and he took them to the CL Semi's and won them a cup, and his contribution at Hoffenheim to get them promoted was commendable. During his time at Schalke, I remember them as a very fast and aggressive attacking force who scored a lot of goals, but quite shoddy at the back. So perhaps his attacking ethos would fit well into the club albeit not his defensive one !!
  2. Noting that Feyenoord have 5 players in the Dutch world cup squad (against Ajax's 3), and 4 of those being defenders. Just thinking that might imply that Koeman knows how to set up a defence well, and build fast, pacy attacks from that stability? Just a thought - He might well be a good strategic fit for us.
  3. Tend to agree - At one time I was all for fighting to keep him but he does'nt seem bothered and is clearly chasing cash... Also agree that he is likely to be staring at the back of Roger's head more often than playing on the pitch... Let him go for the right fee and spend it well on others, and invest time and effort in developing young Harrison Reed
  4. Yep, will always love him and the contribution he has made to the club in the past 5 years. Good luck big talisman!
  5. She is a Liebherr, and we owe our continued existence and being back where we belong in the prem to that family and we should all remeber that. It is such a shame she could no longer work with Cortese though.
  6. Rickie owes us nothing - he has performed superbly for the club for 5 seasons and served us with distinction. Very sad that he has left but I can understand why - It is not unreasonable for him to finish his career with his boyhood club. Best of luck to him!
  7. I am only seeing this all ending one way at the moment, and thats badly. Ralph is failing to manage the messages both internally and externally at the moment - We are not buying the platitudes but the rest of the footballing world are taking it as an open invitation to come in and harvest what they want - A bad combination. The moment of truth will come when our new manager is appointed!
  8. It sure feels like the world is against us at the moment. I don't begrudge Rickie his move to his boyhood club I really don't - He's been brilliant for us for 5 seasons and I'll happily wish him every success in his final seasons at the top. But the board are just not managing the messages to the supporters at all well, they are not managing the media "sheet storm" well either and are almost giving encouragment to open season at SMS. I do not blame them entirely for Poch moving on but they need to start acting tough (or at least give the impression they are) - Right now everything seems to be rudderless. I am and remain a Pro-Cortese Saints fan, and I wish that some of his acumen and cojonies was driving the club message right now.
  9. Ricky owes us nothing - He has had 5 great seasons here where he has effectively been our talisman during our rise from the 3rd tier. Before coming to us he was a Bristol Rovers player, but he has risen with us to the Premiership, going to a world cup so it kinda makes sense that he would like to close his playing career with his boyhood club. If he goes, he will go with grateful thanks from me and with all good wishes.
  10. Everton are certainly reachable - They over-achieved with their playing squad this season but that can be attributed to recruiting an excellent manager in Martinez - If we can emulate them and recruit our next manager well, we can overtake them I have no doubt.
  11. It's the style of play that Moyes plays that really would not suit our current squad, and I suspect would not suit the fans either given the feast of good football we have enjoyed watching this season. His philosophy is cautious and I think we have evolved beyond that.
  12. Oh please - Moyes is far too defensively minded for the style of football we have grown used to playing. I'm sorry to say it but our new manager will need to be continental with a philosophy towards attacking play.
  13. Well said and the sentence highlighted is the most important within it... I am sorry to see MP go, he has done a great job here but he never had an emotional attachment to the club and his moving on was sadly inevitable. If he has a good season at Spuds I can see him Madrid or Barca bound, and they will be left feeling as disappointed as us. But onwards we go - and lets recruit his replacement well!
  14. Please god not McClaren - I really think he has nothing progressive to offer us given how far we have come to. Would not object to Tuchel though.
  15. It is interesting to read this. I live and work surrounded by Tottenham fans, and almost to a man and woman they are not warm towards Poch at all. If he does show up at WHL as their new manager and they do not get off to a flyer, they feel that the crowd will be on his back and Levy will pull the trigger again. A so called "liked and wanted" manager might buy himself more time. But then I suppose, Poch proved us wrong when we rather "luke warmedly" heralded his entrance to Saints over the fairly popular NA ! He's done it once and I suppose he can do it again
  16. Agreed, but as you say a good run out against one of the leagues top sides - If he can play that well against in form Mertesacker and Kocielney, then he could run Hangeland and Hughes ragged at the weekend if he gets the nod again.
  17. First time I have seen young Gallagher play last night - I thought he played well and as Clarkey say's above, was a right handful for their CB's. Well impressed by the lad - Another one off our ever fruitful production line.
  18. It is never easy breaking down any side who comes to park the team bus and hope to play on the break. Fortunately we are still able to break sides like that down and come away with the win - It was a sound professional performance from us and 3 points won! Great feet from Osvaldo and he deserved his goal - The monkey is off his back now and I'm sure this will be the first of many. Very chuffed tonight
  19. Great result - Great performance and another reason to be very optimistic for this season. As others have said, Lovren is a gem we have unearthed and signed and Osvaldo is now settling and showing all the signs of being a match winner for us. Great to see the celebrations at the final whistle - Sows the togetherness and team ethic that MP has instilled. The samaritans will be quiet to night I think.
  20. I'm sure that little camera will still be in his hand... Great man who will never be forgotten for so many things - But most of all for us, he saved our club from extinction.
  21. Fantastic achievement for a fantastic guy !! Really made up for him...
  22. Again thats really good to hear - Schalke are a very strong Champions League side and hear that 2 youngsters can cut it in that company bodes very well.
  23. Good to hear that assessment straight from somebody who has actually watched him play. Encouraging news again as another young prospect breaks through.
  24. Top Man !! Seriously he is...
  25. The shortest serving Saints legend I can remember... ;0) Some key goals and loved watching him rough up the opposition centre halves..
