He has to convert more chances. He just isn't clinical enough. But we have others to do that job so he needs to pass if he can't finish. He is more about creating the opportunity than finishing. He does score goals but he is miles ahead of most. Technically gifted with quick feet and excellent close control. If we look like being in the mix he won't go as I expect there to be a clause in his contract regards salary.

chant of the day aimed at the Leicester drummer "Did you eat the other drum?" he was a big lad!

so has baldock been signed by whu or not?

Saturday showed us why having home and away fans exiting in the same vacinity at the same time doesn't work! I have heard all the arguements about "human rights" and not being able to hold the away fans in for a period directly after the whistle. Strange how I can remember being held in at a number of grounds! So why not make it part of the sale of the ticket - it is made very clear that ...the ticket is for the game after which the purchaser will be held back for 30-mins whilst the area clears of home supporters! It is a contract - everyone will know in advance, and everyone wins. No special circumstances - ALL visiting fans good and bad get the same treatment. If they do not wish to abide by the terms and conditions attached to the sale of their matchday ticket - then they don't get in. It could be a first - football club makes it official to make it safer for home fans to leave the ground! Surely this would also be an excellent opportunity to seel more food and drink afetr the game to benefit the club too? If 30-mins is too excessive perhaps we could look at 15-20-mins. It's not rocket science and whilst many on here could actually turn this around and say "It gives the Southampton Youff time to set up ambushes" I hasten to add they can do what they like but at least Saints fans can leave the area unmolested! At Hartlepool last year there was limited egress from the stadium - by the time we got out the place was a graveyard for home fans! Perhaps the stewards should try that lettting them out through one exit half open?

Read on another site a rumour we have had £1.5m bid accepted for Baldock! Don't shoot me I'm just relaying what soemone else has typed - so no source, not ITK, but interesting when you consider everyone else we have gone after. £1.5m sounds high to me - but then again what do I know! Does he offer anything we don't already have - youth and enthusiasm is all I can think of. If he looks leight weight perhaps we could put him on the Adkins diet and beef him up a bit?

I just love the fact then when Millwall come to town they show their true colours..."F Troop" was so 1980's lads...grow up and go back to Cold Blow Lane!

Not done many coach trips but did one with the old Saints Supporters Social Club to Leyton Orient the season we went up back in !977/78 from memory. It was a right laugh - no TV or video in those days you made your own entertainment! We had a few in the Club before we set off - then got caught up in loads of traffic so didn't get to a pub before the game. Remember some West Ham fan running alongside the coach giving it large. The coach stopped and someone got off to have a quiet word from memory! Obvioulsy being at the game and securing promotion meant for a great drive home - but as soon as we cleared the coach park - someone lobbed a brick through the windscreen. No one was hurt but Jeff (from memory had a lucky escape as he was sttod up talking to the driver at the time, trying to negotiate a pub stop. We we got a stop by some barracks whilst another coach was sent to meet us at Fleet services. Lots of happy football fans and women short of male company seemed to be a goof formula for some, as some didn't get back on the coach. By the time we got to Fleet it was early hours of the morning - with celebrations continuing I seem to remember one of the lads picking a bunch of daffodils for one of the ladies on the trip (barmaid called Lesley) - but he forgot to tell her someone had urinated all over them! Blimey it was a great day out and as for the coach trip pretty amusing. Strange we had gone to Luton the weekend before and windows done there as well - makes for a drafty drive home!

Yeah but sitting down just isn't right at football is it? Anyway when I was in a choir at Junior School we always had to stand up to sing...apparently it's all to do with the diaphragm!
-
He made contact with the ball and it went clear - but looks to me as though he left his foot in for the player to run into!!!!

Latest rumour on Saints Facebook site - Rodders £4.5m for 4-years!

Ha ha we have a comedian in the camp...! To be honest if Keith Hill has half the talent at Barnsley that he had at a must win Rochdale side we lost to...then we're in for a game. His forwards hurried and hassled and midfield looked strong at Rochdale - but it's Barnsley and the players may not be enthusiastic about wanting to beat Saints or play their hearts out for him. The main difference this year is we have Cork in the middle - he seems to take a lot of pressure off the rest of the team from what I've seen. We don't seem to panic like we did at Rochdale/Tranmere/Walsall. We outplayed Walsall and battered Rochdale but just couldn't score. Tranmere was a day when we didn't want to get stuck in! I can't see Barnsley having enough against a full strength side. As for leaving Harding out - he just had a bad night at Rochdale last year - not sure if he was fully fit? Barnsley will be under pressure to have a go at us being at home - and we can sit back a bit. At Rochdale there was a lot of pressure on a win so we had to go for it - not the case this season! I think Hill & Adkins are good mates having done their badges together - but I think it's time for Nigel to assert himself on Saturday and take 3-points. Whatever the result the Managers will be full of praise for each other! Anyway enough of that - who's stopping by at SMS to pick up the flag surfer for the away end this week? I think it would be a great gesture if the team brought it up and installed in the away end before the game every week.
-
Not saying - I want a pint not a fight and with all you young hoodlums running amuck darn sarf I won't get in!

Barnsley is like many other Yorkshire towns - like their football and very welcoming (before & after the game). They want your money so most pubs allow away fans providing you don't look like trouble makers! I'll be using the same watering hole as the last 2-seasons we played there - spoke with the new landlord last night and says if the car load I turn up with looked dodgey then there was another pub about 100-m away that would have away fans! They let Pompey fans in last year - and welcome anyone from the England set up! I guess if your English that's good enough! Don't know the place well enough to recommend anywhere but remember it's South Yorkshire - the police after the Hillsborough incident they tend to be a bit touchy and not very friendly to visiting fans (unlike the lads from Hampshire) so my recommendation is behave. Situations become incidents if you are not very careful.
-
Bring it to Barnsley and I'll look after it and make sure it goes to all the game up North! Better than that take it to The Station and ask for Gossie he does home & away - I'd put it the roof of my house!
-
Anyone know if The Outpost still allows away fans? Been in there a couple of times but believe they now only let home fans in...perhaps we should all get there early and take it?
-
Somehow this doesn't feel as bad as when Walcott left! Still disagree with being an academy for the big clubs - but hopefully this will be our last player to go because he wants to win something! Not convinced it is a good move for either club - but I guess if he wants to go then let him! Nothing must disrupt the harmaony that is now Southampton FC.

Are you Mark Goddard ex-Bellemoor circa 1970's?
-
Agree but sounded fantastic from POCKLINGTON!

Strange places I have met fellow Saints fans include Bodrum Airport as well as Punta Cana in Dominican Republic. Very few fans in the UK but in this tiny market town there a re at least 3 fellow fans. Even Steve Moran only lives round the corner in Market Weighton.

I think the rivalry only really started for my generation (50 something) when we were relegated in 1974 and the first derby at The Dell which Sainrs won4-0. it came from a generation where your school, town, city was "harder" than theirs. Very tribal and very basic. I used to go to Pompey everyday and met a lot of nice people. Even football fans that one on one were perfectly normal. It's the whole culture of the 70's & 80's. They had some real head cases and a massive reputation (657) for being one of the all time nasty crews. Even I still get swept up in the emotion of it all. Of all the games I have ever been to this is the only one that has a serious edge.
-
No one going for automatic? No surprises there then...the 5-year plan on track but it would be fantastic to mirror Norwich's achievements of last season.
-
I last heard Fernandes was still running round in circles trying to beat the last defender for the last time - trouble is he kept coming back for more. His constant running round in circles has taken straight down under and he is now looking for a club. Latest - allegedly he has been refused entry to Australia for various unresolved misdemeanours involving pedestrians and cars!
-
Him and Barnard would go down a storm with the bouncers eergh rather doormen in Southampton, perhaps they should visit Southsea?
-
I agree but it was bloody cold that night - but felt very warm when No.6 went in! I also went ballistic when Chappers scored against ManU as did almost every other football fan in the country...we are on our way!

Strange how all these rumours are resurrected when the school summer holidays are here! Personally happy to read all such drivel - but until I see it on the OS I take it all with a very large pinch of salt! I mean the picture of ">" in a Saints shirt I won't believe a single word.
