  1. I love the idea of players having a beer with the fans after a game - just like the good old days of the ale house brawlers (God bless them!)

    The 90's

The seventies for me - but was that the excitement of the football or the fact every week it was your sole aim not to get a good kicking every week? I'll never know it's all too long ago - but there were some golden moments in that era - relegation, promotion, FA Cup League Cup & who could forget the Keegan signing? The early eighties were fantastic too - solid 1st Division side. The nineties passed me by - like so many thinks with ayoung family...but the last few years (noughties) have had some great moments in the lower leagues - but I can't think of any off the top of my head. Anyway the football might not be as good - but the away crowds are certainly better.
  3. Will there be cash on the day gate? Had a good day out last year but for the result...and the beer wasn't bad either!
  4. Really looking forward to Huddersfield next week - I feel we still owe them for last season at The McAlpine - almost forgot we won 5-0 at home but that isn't enough!
  5. Sad sad day if we are still trying to find ways of exonerating someone for an attack with a bottle just because he's potentially a footballer at Southampton FC! Not trying to be holier than thou - but there are no excuses in society for this type of behaviour not matter how prevoked or intoxicated one is! Not heard many people express concern for the poor bloke on the receiving end of the attack - it's all about someone else "getting off and playing for Saints again".
  6. I know this may sound wrong but you lot are really doing anyones defence any good by stating the alledged person smashed a bottle over someones head - I wonder if the prosecution will be calling for names and addresses of people who state they "know" or "saw" the incident after reading this site? Can this thread be closed - it really is sad enough it has one on this long. Assault with a bottle is a terrible crime - and if any Saints player is found guilty of doing so - end his contract immediately!
  7. Interesting he had a hand injury - usually only get those if you hit someone with your fist! Let's hope our players were not too involved and charges are not made to which they have to answer. It does make me wonder - what are "professional" (ahem) sportsmen doing out at that time of night alledgedly (ahem) under the influence of alcohol? I guess the club will make a statement later today? I stand by something I said earlier today elsewhere - if the allegations made in these pages are true - the guilty party (if a Saints player) should never play for Southampton again - we don't want this sort of thug associated with our club!
  8. I wish you lot would get a life and just put it out of your minds...there is only one derby and that is against the blue few down the road. Bournemouth have no history of being rivals - infact they are more likely to be described as a feeder club or a place where our young stars cut their teeth not being too far from home! As for Bournemouth fans trying to big it up and trying to call us Scummers - they haven't even got an original name for us!!! Southampton v. Pompey isn't a true derby - now Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Liverpool define what derbies are all about. London derbies are two a penny - but ask any West Ham fan - his derby is with Millwall - likewise Spurs and Arsenal. Rivalry is healthy - but all of a sudden Bournemouth has a youth policy and not OAP trouble makers and they want to be our rivals. Anyway enjoy people - I'll be swigging beer at the local annual beer festival with one eye on the score (as both eyes will not be in focus!) Bournemouth - the sunshine capital of Dorset, with plenty of activity for pensioners! I know there is a big students presence down there having visited one summers evening a couple of years ago - and the clubbing drinking culture has changed from Darby & Joan + Complan to Jack & Jill's + shots...but honestly rivals to the mighty Saints...get a life!
  9. What game were you at? Perhaps a touch of rose tinted glasses but apart from the foul throws we didn't give you very much. The ref did his best to give you a chance to score - and by booking the heart of our team for decent tackles makes me wonder if we weren't playing against 12-men! For a League 1 game it wasn't that bad - but we have played a lot better and lost. I think both teams will be up there after 40-odd games...this may be the start of our season, but Wednesday are suffering what we did last season.
  10. Seems we managed to do more than just hold out for the point! Look at the table - 9-points off the top. We should start looking like that like we did at the end of last season for a chance to reach the play-offs. We can only get better - teams will frustrate us at SMS, but away from home it should be very different. We are still the team everyone wants to beat - always will be because of our history. Let's give them a pat on the back - only 37-games left and 9-points behind the leaders!
  11. Time to panic yet? I can hear all the teams in the league laughing their socks off! Favourites for promotion - and we believed it!
  12. All the interviewers all asking the same question today again then? Really must cheese him off having to put a straight bat to every one of them! Let's hope he won't be so elusive with answers when he joins us! Wonder who he will bring in first? Reckon it will be a midfielder with decent shooting boots at this level. Who is available? I bet he will know someone who is available!
  13. It's not about squads - it's about teamwork! We have a side full of good palyers - but sometimes they just don't play to their strengths. For example David Connolly makes some intelligent runs - but no one seems to be able to read them or pass it to his his feet. We tend to hoof it forward hoping he can muscle his way in! The hoof to Lambert should be the get out ball - not the only ball. We create space and spread the play only for either a useless cross, a good cross that no one anticipates or a lame dribble and no shot at goal. We may have the best squad - but we don't have the best team - perhaps the combinations are all wrong? I also think after the big pre-season bonding session in Switzerland - they all get on as "mates" but it isn't reflected on the pitch. On Tuesday night I saw the good old days return - the blame culture & finger pointing as to why "they " scored! Don't get me wrong - I'll still await results every week - try to get to games but my expectations are so low at the moment when they should be sky high! Big plans require big balls to see them through - and I think some of the team don't stand up to the line and get counted. We are one of the biggest clubs at this level - but we still manage to roll over for "lesser" sides at home (and away). We have to accept teams will raise their game against us - but we should be more than good enough to see them off. Rant over - just another Friday morning with more on my mind than work.
  14. Back to post something and not in Pocklington! It was a lack lustre performance to say the least. Apart from carrying the new boy I thought the whole team was well under par. Why do we kick everything up high - to Connolly? We seem to be able to pass to Chamberliain on the floor so why not Connolly? Is it me or were we just not interested? After all the unrest in the dressing room and Pardew going I thought the team would have come out and given everything because the problem had gone. but I couldn't have been further from the truth. What was the sending off all about? Barnard seemed to "want it" - he, Dickson and Chamberlain all seemed to up for it. Easy to blame the events of the last few days - however I feel as though we went two paces forward at Bristol and four paces back tonight! Who can lift them for Saturday - Wilkins? They all need a rocket - it's not losing but the manner in which we lost. How many shots on target? Rickie Lambert - are you interested or just living on last seasons record? Get a grip man you just don't sem interested!
  15. Personally I think a large portrait of the man should hang proud in reception. He would never be far from his beloved Saints then!
  16. I feel as though whatever tributes we pay - they will fade into insignificance for what Markus brought to the club. A very sad day for football - as he wasn't in it for the money, and had a passion for the club we all love. We must all raise our game and make sure the club makes his dreams a reality. Markus Liebherr - Premier Class.
  17. It wasn't looking good thou was it? Got out of jail - but with the 1st team playing we should walk this league!
  18. Watched it on SKY and I must say I thought we did alright apart from that soft goal. OK - looking at the stats we had seven attempts on target to their one - plenty of corners (shame we can't capitalise on them!) When is Kelvin going to kick the ball to one of our players? I seem to remember him kicking it straight out on two occassions from free kicks! Hoof ball is a nightmare - I thought we looked better when passing it through the midfield. A lot of possession - but little to show for it! Who says we are not a one man team? I really think we are short on several counts. Midfielders who can't head the ball, midfielders who can't shoot & midfielders who can't put in a telling pass to our current forwards. Forwards who can't hit the target - other than that we did alright I suppose. To add insult to misery I had too much to drink and upset the usual weekend harmony - thanks lads!
  19. Let me guess who this is - does he regularly appear on the 3rd half after every game? Something to do with a Mexican Brass Band? His initials TT? Might be a long way off - does Pocklington qualify as an ex-PAT? After all it is the independent state of Yorkshire!
  20. Any of the players who look at this forum must PTL at the rubbish people post! Rumour after rumour; hatred for him; despising of someone else and best of all who should play - and who we should buy! Cortese, Pardew et al must sit in a darkened closet and wonder. If we really are the best fans in the world (I know I am one of them) we must really stop all this nonsense about thinking we know more than the employees of the football club. Next it will be the fans decide what beer and pies we should sell - so thats 32,000 different pints of ale and only 16,000 different pies! 3-days and counting - BTW mine would be Bombadier & Chicken Balti!
  21. Thankfully he bagged a couple against Norwich in JPT - remember being destined not to go to Wembley and up he stepped! Not a legend but timely goals!
  22. Everyone on here will be at the game...or down the pub watching on tv! There will be a few on here - probably Pompey fans looking for a club! I'll be back after the game to give my 5-p worth - good or bad result it will be nice to actually comment on something that really matters! League Division 1 Early kick off Southampton..cough Plymouth...splutter WTF?
  23. Is this still going? How can such a small issue run for so many pages? Surely it is an extension of going anywhere where you pay - if the management don't want you there - no matter what colour your money you aint getting in! Fact is they don't seem to want to offer Mr.Illingsworth the saving a ST offers - but he can but a ticket every week. If it is an identity problem give the money to someone to but the ticket on your behalf and by-pass the system. To some owning a ST seems more important than anything else - honestly you can be a good fan without one you know!
  24. Let's not panic Papa is coming back according to the latest rumour mongerers!
  25. You just know Antonio will score - won't he?
