He's good isn't he ?
-
Steve Williams was quite simply one of the best midfield players ever to pull on a Southampton shirt.
-
Elimentary my dear Watson
-
The Quality Street advert ? You mean to the tune of Thankyou Very Much by The Scaffold. And sorry its not brilliant
-
Oh yes........hope those words are rammed down his thorat Saturday afternoon
-
Thats not old, I remember watching all of them Old must be before 1970....surely ?
-
Best thing would be for Preston to keep doing well

People cannot seem to grasp the idea that we are no longer a selling club, we have no debt whatsoever and ML and NC are looking to build this club up into a Premiership side again. Lallana will only go IF the deal is right for Southampton - which would mean a very large amount of money - and/or if, when his contract is up, he decides he wants to leave. As there is no evidence he wants to leave all this talk about him going in January is ridiculous.
-
Well you can't fault his honesty.......how their assistant manager can call us long ball is beyond me.....did he not notice the number of times Lallana and Antonio, in the second half, ran at them from the half way line ?
-
He has been left standing quite a few times, not so much recently admitted but in the first few games of replacing Thomas.....its probably helped that his positional play has improved in recent weeks, another plus mark for the coaching staff I suspect.
-
Quite agree......it does worry me what will happen when he comes up against a flying winger or overlapping full back for the reasons you state. But at the moment he isn't really being tested in that department and as you can only judge him on what happens and not what might happen he is playing well.
-
Well he certainly wouldnt have been able to carry on if it had been a break.....i would guess at brusing........besides you dont run and score with your arm do you ???
-
No surprise...to me Ince has put together a team in his own image - niggly, whingey and not very pretty. Glad he didnt come here as manager in the summer.
-
Only if they can catch him Hope we can extend this loan.....just imagine a winger playing for Southampton who actually does what a winger should - beat the full back and get to the bye-line....incredible !!
-
Supposed to clear up early afternoon though......sun out, too late to do anything else....why not pop down to St Marys I do hope if it is a big crowd we dont do the old trick of going to pieces and being crap !
-
I would think Dellhurst............we had fans everywhere that afternoon....I would think we had more there than the "official" figures
-
You mean Thomson not Thomas don't you ?
-
Agree with that. The fact that this club had become so divided in every possible way that even supporters were fighting amongst themselves.
-
Its all very well saying "get rid" but if nobody wants him he isnt going anywhere. The only chance of him leaving in the near future is for someone to want him on loan.....but they dont appear to be beating down the door in a rush to get him.
-
I thought that.....same happened when Southend equalised last week.....we didnt crumble on either occasion and that in itself is very encouraging.
-
Bit picky today aren't you ? He was and is a defender, Lloyd James is not a defender.
-
Well he was doing a good job until he got injured, now he is back fit I dont see why AP hasn't gone back to using him, the defence certainly looks more solid with him there. No disresepect to James but he aint a right back !
-
I must say the continued inclusion of James at right back is asking for trouble. I know he gives more going forward but when its all hands on deck at the back he is often all at sea.

McMenemy - one of the UK's most successful managers?
beatlesaint replied to Nineteen Canteen's topic in The Saints
Well well.....lets have a little look at everyones fave poster and his latest attempt to bad mouth anyone who has ever done anything decent for Southampton FC. Maybe, just maybe, when taking into account their Top 20 the Guiness Book people considered a number of things.....such as - Number of games managed at a particular club or in a particular division and the % of wins, or the average League position of said club during managers tenure there. Given that Lawrie was manager of Southampton longer than Benitez, Mourinhio and Dalglish (to name but three) were at their clubs that would probably explain that one. I seem to recall a period where we were about the 7th most successful club in England, and that WAS under Lawrie's leadership so that would be one explanation as to his appearence on the list. Perhaps, although less likely, they looked at the state of the club, the size, the previous history etc and judged it partly by that. No manager had ever won the FA Cup for Saints before, no manager had ever led us to a League Cup Final before, no manager had qualified the club for Europe as many times before, and nobody had ever got the club anywhere near Runners-up in League Division 1 as it was then called. So work out the number of years Lawrie was at Southampton - i will help you - it was 11 years as manager, and calculate how many of those seasons ended in a promotion, a cup final appearence, a qualification for Europe, a top 3 placing...and you will probably find he had more succesful seasons than not. To include Redknapp, Moyes, Hodgson, Armfield and even to an extent Atkinson above him is an absolute insult....but i guess thats your whole point isnt it ? Oh and even though I have blocked you feel free to reply as I'm sure some kind soul will post your response in the quotes box cos thats how i still manage to read most of your rubbish/baiting/poison....cos like a bad penny, you always turn up again and again and again..... -
Jan Poortvliet in relegation battle (again)
beatlesaint replied to CHAPEL END CHARLIE's topic in The Saints
Absolutely......not his fault an ego maniac gave him the chance of a lifetime but then tied both his hands behind his back.
