Remember when people were genuinely putting forward Wanyama's name for us in the summer...
-
I know it's easy to turn the blame to the referee following a loss, but he was weak tonight. Did nothing to stop their time wasting from the first goal other than a few arm signals and seemingly forgot to book the two Bournemouth players who took their dives in the second half. But, yeah, we were absolutely ****ing awful in the first half. Said last week after Vestergaard's shocker that it would be Yoshida dropped again for this one, and low and behold. It's almost as if Vestergaard was too expensive/on too much wages to be dropped. Hojbjerg and JWP too, I'm not really sure what they bring to the team this season. The latter improved massively in the second half of the season under Ralph, but this season he's reverted to type and isn't a threat on the right. His set pieces have gone back to myth status too. Look at how dangerous Bournemouth were from every corner and then look at ours struggling to beat the first man. (Watch Boufal get dropped when Djenepo returns, rather than JWP) And, yeah, with the departure of Lemina we don't have anyone to replace Hojbjerg in the middle who probably deserves some time out. Can't believe there were talks of some top European clubs looking at him last season. He should be one we're looking to upgrade on.

Has to be Bertrand. Swap out Vestergaard for Danso at LCB and then we have what could be a fairly solid back three.
-
Djenepo's our next £70m+ player.
-
Vestergaard hasn't done one thing right today. Yoshida will be dropped next week though.
-
Fortunately all of their chances are falling to McGoldrick. How has he found himself starting at this level?
-
Vestergaard's looking very dodgy today, which is a shame after his United performance.
-
Djenepo could be fit for this one? That's good. They play with overlapping centre-backs, so if we could hit them on the wings that could nullify them. Shame Redmond isn't ready.

England to play Euro qualifier at St Mary's in September

It must be depressing to have your rivals hosting an England match. Fortunately, we'll never have to experience it. -

Perhaps St. Mary's just has a curse on defences? -
Transfer window deadline - At a disadvantage with European clubs
HarvSFC replied to stevy777_x's topic in The Saints
Yep. Europe needs to agree on a date before all the top European leagues start to end the transfer window. Tottenham had to start the season without Eriksen and Vertonghen amidst speculation over their future and as much as Spurs are a nasty club, that isn't right and at least the early closure has stopped that from happening on a domestic front as it was a lot more frequent beforehand (See Wanyama and Van Dijk for us.) To be fair nothing actually happened in the early stages of the last transfer window, so it will also kill a lot of the dead time. -
Tyreke Johnson was on BT Sport with Woking against Hartlepool last night in a 1-1 draw. Didn't really stand out. I also didn't realise Woking were a part-time club until it was mentioned last night, making the decision to loan him there all the stranger. Maybe he's being educated on the other side of football, as it's so easy to end up there and Hassenhuttl stated that he didn't want the younger players to think that they've made it after a few appearances? I don't know.

A young 21-year-old centre-back, Ben White, who's on loan from Brighton has been named Leeds' player of the month as they sit in third place in the Championship. What does it have to do with us? Well, he was released by Saints just five years a go at 16.
-
Credit to Gunn after today too. I was his critic after Burnley, but he won us that point as much as any of the outfield players today. Really good.
-
Get Cedric on the free-kicks again.

Well, Sky did pick Newport Vs West Ham and Lincoln Vs Everton over Nottingham Forest Vs Derby this week...

Really weird statistics, I can accept our 91% when only 83% of Sheffield United fans believe Sheffield Wednesday to be their main rivals, likewise with Bristol City's 83% for Bristol Rovers. Tottenham's 83% for Arsenal, Newcastle's 72% for Sunderland (Middlesbrough are a nothing club) and Manchester City's top rivals being Liverpool also seems strange. It all seems a bit knee jerk, which probably explains Man City, as Liverpool are their competitive rivals and why Brighton and Reading are high up for us, as we were competing with one of them in our League One/Championship seasons. I disliked both at the time, but don't really care about Reading anymore, they seem a nice club and we take good numbers there. However, there's still a dislike for Brighton following Poyet, El-Abd and Tarrico that I still hold against them.
-
Jack Cork would walk into this midfield.
-
Only Premier League side to keep a clean sheet today. What a defence.
-
Great win. Need to start Djenepo and Boufal next week, they've got that individual quality up the pitch.
-
****e team selection again. Danso, understandably looking out of sorts at left-back and not offering a lot going forward, even with those poor long throws. Still don't understand Vestergaard over Yoshida. Yoshida's a better defender and even gets on the end of attacking set pieces, which I've never seen Vestergaard do despite his height. And, I know Ward-Prowse improved measurably last season and was one of out better performers in the second half of the campaign, but he doesn't fit this formation at all. Get him off for Boufal or Djenepo at half time, as he's not giving the Brighton defenders anything to think about. I also don't think the Ings/Adams experiment is working. But, hey. It's 0-0 and we're playing against 10 men.

That is terrible. Potential leg breaker.

Charlie Austin struggling to get into the West Brom starting eleven.

Excellent news. McCarthy's as good a number two as a club our size can hope for. Forster is simply hopeless at this level now following his decline, but was above McCarthy in the goalkeeper pecking order for what I can imagine only being monetary reasons. Hopefully we can now keep hold of McCarthy as the adequate backup to Gunn.

Battling relegation in the Premier League to... Battling relegation in Ligue 1 in a stadium of 18,000. Not quite the sporting step-up I imagine his ego was thinking of.
