  1. We are only a LB short of the squad that finished last season and I have no doubt that is being addressed. We need a very more options on top of that but we aren't far off the team who finished 8th last year. Tadic and Pelle may yet prove to be better than what we sold. 8 of the players who started against Man Utd are still here, I fail to see any problems so far.
  2. I think the last time we signed a player from another Premier League side, whist in the Prem, was Squashie. Before that Crouch, before that I can't even remember. I'm not counting Bernard's loan, Phillips was already relegated, Le Saux was a part ex. With Bridge. I can't really remember before that. Were Derby relegated when they sold us Delap? We really don't sign many from Prem rivals.
  3. Would seem odd for Ukraine to do it, given that it had already passed through most of their airspace. If it is proved Russia was behind this, there are going to be some massive turds hitting the fan.
  4. I don't think Shaw is great value at £6m, he may not play every game with Evra still kicking around (who is cheaper and got more points last years). Likewise Lallana may not be a starter for Liverpool and I doubt will be involved in half as many goals without Suarez. I may take a punt on Pelle. Maybe three up front with Aguero and perhaps Austin as the cheaper option. He is the kind of nasty little player who will keep popping up with goals. I will make him captain when he plays Saints, likewise Nugent. Both guaranteed to score. Yaya is a shoe in if he remains City's penalty taker. Januzaj looks a good price at £6.5 , so I'd have him too. Mirallas, Barkley, Paulinho, Nolan and Puncheon also look decent options in midfield.
  5. I never really rated Mayuka anyway but he did little to change my mind with those highlights. Maybe the rest of his game was better but to waste those chances against such poor opposition is disappointing. He wont get that much time and space next season and he still couldn't score. Personally I would try and offload him, doesn't look a Premier League player.
  6. *sigh* No he doesn't. People are STILL not getting it. He doesn't want to be taken seriously, he just wants an argument and some attention. Are you familiar with the ignore function? It was designed with people like him in mind. To put it into context, arguing with alpine is like wrestling a pig in a sty. You may well be convinced that you are winning but the reality is you are wrestling a pig, you're both covered in s**t and the pig is loving every minute of it. You walk away thinking 'I won!' Everyone else looks at you like 'he stinks of pig s**t.'
  7. You're still not getting it. He wants to be abused. He's never going to 'shut the f**k up'
  8. That's exactly what he wants. Every time somebody argues with him he gets wood, that's why he does it. Obviously he doesn't believe any of the crap he writes, he just makes it up to antagonise people. He has a compulsive need for attention, which he gets by being deliberately abrasive on the internet. Quite a tragic individual, you would be best served just ignoring him. If everyone does that then he may go away.
  9. I was actually. I was at QPR and Preston at home in 2006 too. I didn't go to Sheffield Weds or Preston away in 2007 though, I missed those games.
  10. Good to see. I don't really understand why we let him go then spent £2m on Gazzanigga, they both seem a similar standard to me. Personally I thought he was better than Kelvin but it was always difficult for him with so little playing time.
  11. Two of us going this year, camping the whole weekend from Thursday until Monday. We could do with 1 more to share the cost of the ferry, fuel and campsite. With another person, we are looking at about £250 for the weekend, including weekend tickets to the race.
  12. I guess we will have to agree to disagree on that. A player can want to leave all he wants, he is still under contract and there is no obligation what so ever for the parent club to sell. Just look at Shaw, he wanted to leave and we made Man Utd pay an obscene amount of money for him.
  13. I don't think it is. Bale, Ronaldo and Suarez all wanted to leave and they are the most expensive players in history. Bale wouldn't have gone for £100m if he had wanted to stay at Spurs. Wages might be affected by how much a player wants to go. Rickie for example would probably play for Liverpool on minimum wage.
  14. Disagree. We didn't sell Lambert for a knock down fee, despite what some on here think.
  15. I never disagreed with any of that. IQ suggested that Lallana is worth more because he provides more goals and assists, I disagree and think Khedira is a better player and worth a bit more. Like you said every deal is different. If someone lets Kenny Dalglish loose with a credit card, suddenly all the prices get doubled.
  16. 2000? We had Beckham, Scholes, Shearer, Owen, Neville, Adams and Campbell in that squad, to name but a few. When I said the weakest squad, I meant over the last couple of years but now in particular we have a ridiculous lack of quality. The fact that a lump like Carroll can score 2 goals last season and be on the reserve list for the World Cup says it all. Not to mention players like Cleverly and Smalling getting in or near the squad. Anyway, back to my point I would swap Adam Lallana for a world class player like Khedira for in a flash.
  17. If this board and manager wants to find a decent centre half they will. In fact they may well have another target lined up already. We only ended up with Makin and Bennett because Burley had no interest in signing defenders due to his central midfielder fetish. I guess everyone has different memories of our first season but Fonte had some absolute howlers, like gifting Wigan a goal in our first home game back in the Prem or his absolute nightmare display away at West Ham. Don't get me wrong, he looked very solid last year along side Lovren. However it does remind me of summer 2004 a bit, when everyone was happy with how solid Claus looked along side killer. Then when Killer got injured he was hopeless. I'm not saying that will definitely happen again but £4m is a decent price for Fonte.
  18. If you wouldn't take £10m for Fonte you are mental. He's 30 years old and not even that good. Looked a lot better last season with Lovren in the team but was poor the year before. Made as many bad mistakes as Jos, just not the blatantly obvious own goals. Personally I think Fonte plus £4m for Marshall would be a decent enough deal. If we can get a decent partner for Lovren with some of the Shaw money, that's a pretty solid defence.
  19. I'd take £4m for Fonte but I doubt he would go to a Championship club.
  20. I haven't seen enough of either to compare to Lallana and Lambert but I am very happy with the deals over all. Pelle is 3 years younger than Lambert who I predict will have a relatively poor season at Liverpool. We basically built a team around him at Saints and he was focal to the way we play. At Liverpool he wont have that, he will be a small fish in a big pond and wont be a regular starter. Would be surprised if he gets into double figures personally, though I do wish him well. I'd rather have Pelle, Tadic and an extra £10m in the bank, I'll put it that way.
  21. Still a difference in class between a Real Madrid player, starting for the strongest German team in 30 years and a Southampton player on the bench for the sh*ttest England team in at least 20 years. We got good prices for everyone we've sold so far.
  22. Yarp
  23. One has to feel sorry for Liverpool, they've had some ugly gits over the last couple of years. Suarez, Kuyt, Skrtel, Jon Flanagan, Spearing. Now they have Lallana and his sh*t beard/quiff combo.
  24. I don't know, I Pelle could give him a run for his money. He's such a dream boat.
  25. When they finished 5th with 72 points, then plummeted to 6th with 69 points? Okay.
