  1. If I was being slightly ambitious I'd go for Marshall to replace Gazza/Kelvin Someone to replace Shaw, I've no idea how good Indi is Caulker to replace Jos or Lovren if he leaves Yarmolenko to replace Guly Konoplyanka to replace Lallana Lukaku to replace Lambert Someone to replace Osvaldo. Not sure on Pelle, a 29 year old with 1 good season in Holland. That would leave us with a pretty healthy squad IMO.
  2. The wages of footballers reflect the number of people prepared to watch them and how much they are willing to pay for the privilege. The fact is a very large number of people think it is worth paying large amounts to watch these players. We as fans are basically giving our money to the players, albeit not directly. I almost laugh when I see people handing footballers fistfuls of their cash and in the same breath saying, "it's disgusting how much they earn." It's the same with ticket prices. I think it was West Ham away last year when they wanted about £42 a ticket. The number of people complaining about ticket prices, who then bought one any way was just silly.
  3. Simple economics, supply and demand. Luke is arguably the most talented teenager in the World when it comes to playing football. There is only one of him and his skills could be worth tens on millions in prize money. No discrespect to your lass but anybody can wipe an arse or give an injection given minimal training. I'm sure it's unpleasant at times but it doesn't take any great skill, that's the difference between the two cases. If you don't like the way footballers are paid, stop paying £40 a game to watch them, cancel your £50 a month Sky Sports package and don't buy any more £40 Adidas clothing which costs 50p to make.
  4. I'm dubious on Pelle. Okay he has a good record in The Netherlands but £10m for a 29 year old seems a bit much to me. I'd expect something a bit special for that price.
  5. You honestly believe a professional footballer who has been dedicated to playing his whole life isn't interested in winning the Premier League or Champions League? Money is all he cares about.
  6. Christ, surely nobody is this thick? If you genuinely don't know, £30,000,000 is the answer. If Shaw wasn't under contract he would have walked out of here a free agent.
  7. Well those kids have just learned a lesson in the realities of football. If you brought your kids up telling them players like Lallana and Shaw are world super stars and will never leave us then more fool you. If you print the name of a player on a shirt that's always the risk you take. It's not like you can never wear the shirt again, I've still got a replica shirt with 'Pahars' on the back lying around somewhere. I honestly don't get why people are upset about this. It's as if some of you have only taken an interest in football this week and the idea of players moving to Man Utd for big money is news to you. If you didn't come to terms with the possibility of Shaw leaving about a year ago, you had your head in the sand.
  8. The best thing about this in terms of the academy is building our reputation throughout Britain. Every parent of every 10 year old wannabe will want their kid to go to Saints academy when they see us turning out the best players in the World. Bale, Walcott, Chamberlain, Lallana and Shaw, that's quite some track record which nobody in Britain can match. These big money sales in the long run will mean when can take our pick of the best young talent in the South of England.
  9. If we sell Lallana and Lovren (which remains very much an IF at this stage) then we will have £70m to spend instead of £30m. We could only spend half of that and still have a truly excellent team. You know your Ukrainian football Charlie, according to some press reports we could afford Yarmolenko AND Konoplyanka with the £25m we want for Lallana. Thats just an example but if you reinvest wisely you can often come out stronger than before. With good management, 4 new faces in the team really shouldn't be a problem. There may be teething pains to start but that's part of football.
  10. It seems some of you have only just started watching football this week. For the benefit of everyone else let's think back to the times when: - We were a mid table Championsip club with Walcott, then we sold him, reinvested the money and got into the playoffs the following season. We would have won the League with a decent manager. - Rooney left Everton who were mid table, then immediately qualified for the Champions league and have been flirting around the top 5 ever since. Not relevant to Saints but it proves selling a teenage wonder kid isn't exactly a death sentence. - We sold Chamberlain, reinvested the money and got promoted to the Premier League at the first attempt. - We sold Dean Richards for a large fee, who then developed a brain tumour and was forced to retire. The money was eventually reinvested in Killer and Niemi. Who came out of that deal better? - We sold Davies to Blackburn. He has never been the same since. We got Beattie in part ex. And he eventually drove us to the Cup final. - We sold Beattie to Everton and brought in Camara and Squashie who almost kept us up. If it weren't for Arrys dodgy management we would have done.
  11. Don't we? How have we gone from League 1 without a team to 8th in the Premier League without building strong squads? Did we not sign Lovren, Wanyama and Osvaldo last season? Granted the latter was a dud but we showed ambition and perigee bring those players in and had the cash to back it up. I don't see any reason we can't match that ambition this transfer window, especially with another £30m to spend and a manager of Koeman's reputation.
  12. We suffered after Bale left because Burley was a tool. He brought in Vignal, then decided not to play him, spent most of the money acquiring sh*t midfielders we didn't need and started the season with no centre halves. Bale wasn't our whole left side, he had a decent partnership with Skacel who allowed him to get forward well. Thats going over old ground though. The point is, if we had invested that money on a couple of new defenders we would have been okay but Burley wasted it.
  13. Getting £30m is neither sad nor pointless. The way some people are reacting, you would think Luke has just walked out the door for free. Without meaning to be rude, your post is highly naive. Almost every club is a selling club to some extent, even Arsenal and Man Utd have had to sell their best players. Players moving on to bigger clubs has been going on since the beginning of time. If this disappoints you, go and watch the LPGA because it's not going to change any time soon.
  14. Please God no. Was a liability in the few fleeting glimpses I've seen of him at Utd. Just to put this sale into some sort of context, if you were the Saints manager now and the chairman said here's £30m go and spend it however you like, how many of you would go and blow the whole wad on a teenage LB? Even as undoubtedly talented as Shaw is, I doubt many people would do that.
  15. Remember how badly Eveton suffered the seasson after they sold Rooney? I really hope we don't suffer the same fate. We may not get another LB of Shaw's quality but £30m would buy J Rod, Wanyama and Lovren. If I said to you before a game last season, would rather Shaw got injured or all 3 of the others, what would you choose. As long as we invest this money sensibly and stay away from sodding Italy I think we will come out f it stronger. Yes we will most likely be weaker at LB but if we have a decent replacement, a £10m centre half and a £15m striker we will most likely be better off.
  16. You are an Aldi own brand version of alpine. Possibly the most expensive fullback ever (level with Cole?) is not a good fee?
  17. Good news IMO. We gets an excellent fee, one of the most expensive full backs ever. We get the deal done quickly and have the rest of the summer to source a replacement.
  18. I did start that post by saying, "some of the quotes on that Liverpool forum are utterly hilarious." I'm not claiming every Liverpool fan is like that, although that lot was copied from barely 1 page. I don't think we are superior to people from Liverpool, it's the belief amongst some of their fans that they are somehow special and that they are the victims in all of this. When Ferdinand got banned, Man Utd and England both suffered. We suffered when Prutton got banned. United suffered when Cantona got banned, Chelsea with Adrian Mutu, etc. etc. None of that was the clubs fault and yet a significant proportion of Liverpool fans seem to think they are being victimised here.
  19. Tokes posted some boobs in TMS
  20. Well, some of the quotes on that Liverpool forum are utterly hilarious. As you'd expect, full of self pity and an expectation that they should be somehow beyond the law. I'll never forget their fans booing Patrice Evra for having the sheer audacity to get racially abused. If Suarez played for any other club, the fans would be united in condemning him for being a complete tool and letting the whole club down; but no, not Liverpool. "Unfair. Totally unfair. Poor luis" "It'll be reduced on appeal. Has to be. LFC won't stand for it" "The lad needs help not (just) punishment. There is no reason why Liverpool should suffer" "We'll appeal and win" "Liverpool punished for something totally unrelated to them. Why am I not surprised?" "Poor Liverpool." But there's one guy on there who actually gets it. Can't be a proper Scouser, must be some plastic from Ilfracombe "Good. Maybe it will finally cause Suarez to get the help he needs & our supporters to stop defending him until he truly changes. We should be furious at Suarez no one else."
  21. Bouchard is through to the second round but at the expense of Hantuchova. Tokes - I'm sorry, he is just everything I look for in a man. Please accept this by way of an apology
  22. She would give you a good forehand smash.
  23. Chiellini must be absolutely delicious.
  24. Maybe it should be a reality TV style vote. We all get to vote on the formation, then on each player to start each possition before the match. During the game we can all vote for subs and if a certain number of votes is reached, the sub is made. Presented by Davina McCall, calls cost £1.25 per minute plus your standard network fees.
  25. FIFA charge Luis Suarez overbite.
