Smashing through the glass ceiling.
Baird of the land replied to aussiesaint20's topic in The Saints
I'd like to give Stephens a chance to come through at centre back. Focus on a keeper for competition(McCarthy) Attacking mid/winger (holtby?) 20 goal striker (?) -
I'd like us to bring in McCarthy from reading to compete with Boruc. He has been an excellent signing though.

Strong lineup for me, chance to finish within touching distance of Man U. Lambert in for Davis for me, just because i'd like to give both Cork and Morgan one last chance to impress international managers.

Post-Match Reaction: Swansea 0-1 SAINTS

That second half sounded terrible but i don't care a jot as we got the vital winning goal. Another solid clean sheet too & didn't seem to be any injuries either. Hopefully we can finish on a high by beating Utd & then strengthen over the summer. -
I was thinking before he went on his scoring run that he would be worth a cheeky bid as a cheaper option. Clearly always had talent, just moved too soon and hasn't played enough. His price has probably gone back up now he's got some goals and it also looks likely that Sunderland will stay up so less likely now.

England World Cup Squad - Lambert, Lallana and Shaw included
Baird of the land replied to Batman's topic in The Saints
GK: Hart, Foster, Forster RB: Johnson, Walker(Clyne) LB: Baines, Shaw Cb: Cahill, Jagielka, Jones, Caulker MID: Milner, Gerrard, Cork, Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Sterling, Barkley, Lallana Att: Rooney, Sturridge, Wellbeck, Lambert Sadly no doubt, Cole, Wilshere and Lampard will get in on their name alone even though they've done nothing this season. -
Got to laugh at the rubbish these papers publish, usually based on zero real info. According to Guardian Lallana is off to Liverpool for 20M. I'm certainly hoping he will stay but if he does go i'm certain if will be nowhere near that laughably low figure.

In McCarthy (gk)4m In holtby 5m In Remy 10m In Moses 3m Out Ramirez, osvaldo, guly, Hooiveld, fox, gazzaniga, sharp etc

Reed's debacle as Charlton manager reminds me of Wigley's debacle as Saints manager. Someone placed in a role which didn't suit them but when placed in a role which suits them they shine.

Taking lallana's one sentence is unfair. The full statement basically sounds like an invitation to the board to do the things to keep him. -
Wanyama and Cork as a partnership
Baird of the land replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Personally I think Morgan/cork works best for some games and wanyama/cork or Morgan works for others. Sometimes you want fluency sometimes brute force. Really happy with our centre mid options and really hope we keep all three. -

Another game that highlights to me why jack cork should be playing centre mid alongside Gerard for England. Sadly he won't get picked which is probably good for saints long-term. Good decision to start Gallagher and once Rickie showed why comparing him and Carroll is like comparing apples and oranges. We got a bit of fortune with 2 big decisions second half but after everton's fortune at theirs it was evened up IMO. Think potchettino could have done with making the first tactical change sooner. -
Shame Morgan is out but hopefully if Cork and Wanyama are fully fit the centre mid spots pick themselves. I'd like to see one of the likes of Mcqueen/Rowe given a run at some point during the game. Don't see the value in playing Guly if we are planning on releasing him.

That put me in an extremely bad mood. Can't believe we lost to that garbage side.

CONFIRMED: Rodriguez ruptures ACL - out for SIX months
Baird of the land replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Gutted for him. Really hope he can make a full and speedy recovery. -
Can't see us having a hope of getting Begovic and he'd cost an absolute fortune. Forster would be nice but he will cost a lot as he's already an england international. Are the board going to sanction another Wanyama fee? Hence why i'd go for Mccarthy if Reading don't get promoted, has played well in prem, located reasonably close, is a nice age 24ish(probably looking to step back up) but might cost a few million less.
-
I'd opt for some sort of limited challenge system(1-2 a game)(akin to Tennis/Cricket) where team can challenge goal/penalty/free kick/booking etc. If they get it right they retain that challenge. Utterly crazy decisions would either be overturned or it would be the fault of managers for wasting their challenges on other scenarios.
-
Alex Mccarthy of Reading would be my choice.

It was lovely to see saints completely bossing man city after a silly start by fonts. Gutted for Jrod, hope it is not as serious as it appears. Sadly the linesman ruined the game. Hope at the very least he is stood down for next week as that was rank incompetence by him. Sadly gazzaniga seems a very weak link and I don't see much potential in him and deeply hope Boruc returns for rest of season.
-
I'd very much like a return to something akin to the 'rank xerox' design. Definitely my favourite Saints kit.
-
Hmm seems much more a case of numpties finding a new scapegoat to pick on. Will they ever learn?
-
First was utterly a freekick. 2nd you'd normally get too as the spurs player went in from behind.
-
Sorry disagree completely, him and cork played very well. They weren't at fault for the goals.
-
That's ridicolous JWP actually played very well today.
-
Really can't believe we've lost to that utterly mediocre spurs team twice now. Dismal reffing as well because both first two sours goals were fouls imo. 3rd goal was utterly gutting as Saints had actually recovered from going into their shell after the 2nd and were playing ok.
