A lot of Pompey-related items have been discussed using the phrase "surely they ... " We have found that the phrase almost never applies in their case, and nobody is quite sure why, but the phenomenon is there. Whether it applies to transfer embargoes, paying debts or just being toast in general, they somehow always manage to get past "surely they ..." On other matters, how do today's events fit in with your FFP view? I think I recall you saying that signing a CB would fit with this, so that part of the jigsaw is in place.

Any word on fitness etc? Still assuming Fonte-Yoshida for Sunday? How soon will he be actually available to play...? On the other point of whether we need another CB, we probably do but making Fonte captain is a statement that he's a regular starter so maybe a low-profile backup CB is what we're aiming for next? Someone for when the inevitable injury crisis comes along?

Really all hangs on the JRod/Schneiderlin thing now, doesn't it? it's going to go one way or the other, and it seems like the question of if they stay or go now determines everything. Either the fightback starts here, or they're all a bunch of liars and continue to roll over. Additionally, obviously, Kruger cannot stay if J-Rod/Morgan go. I think some kind of endgame is being reached.

So our 'keeping anyone at all that have been seriously linked with a move' hopes now depend on Morgan. Poch, Lambert, Lallana, Shaw gone and now Lovren pretty much confirmed by Guan as going. Maybe Cork's contract discussions somehow depend on what schneiderlin does?? I think mainly I'm feeling down because I enjoyed watching Saints last year, lovely football at times and sometimes totally unplayable, even against the really 'big' teams. I'm sure the new guys will come in and be good but not being as clued up as many on the forum I don't know most of the people we're linked to. I just follow Saints. I don't hugely disagree but really we've lost four (J-Rod for the first few months) and three of those four do represent a very large percentage of our goals. Pelle and Tadic could be great or could be Osvaldo, we don't know yet. I'm just concerned because that's a lots of goals we haven't got any more and those three were really good together a lot of last season.

The rate our players are leaving it might all be up to Boruc, Kelvin and Cody to play all positions. I still would see no reason to pick Gazza.
