Still think a key point in all this is that Clyne is our best RB and should be played against Bale. Make up the rest of the defence from whatever we can find that looks half decent/half fit in training this week, bearing in mind it it may be some Forrener or even begin with a 'J' and end with 'ack Stephens'. And then maybe buy some defenders in the next transfer window.

That is one weird list. You could fill it up with most of the team that played under Graham Taylor and it would make more sense. Geoff Thomas, Carlton Palmer, Andy Sinton, John Salako, that whole crowd. Maybe (Batty and Wise apart) they were exempt. Also wasn't John Barnes picked for about six years on the basis of that one goal against Brazil? I'd put all those (and Heskey) ahead of Bridge in this list. Saints viewpoint of course is that you'll never really see an overcapped player from our place, will you? Now if England would have played Bridge at LB and then stuck Chris Marsden in front of him at LM, THAT would have been a good deal.
