I think Juve part own him, a bit like Ramirez and Penarol last year. -
When & who will be our 1st signing ?
Nigel=God-Poyet=Sod replied to Saints boy in Leeds's topic in The Saints
Hopefully soon, it is around the time that deals start to get moving now seasons across Europe have finished. Btw, Jay Rod was our first signing last summer, and although we expected it to happen, officially went through on June 10th. Hopefully something will happen in the next week. -

I totally agree, literally we need someone who can put away the chances we create, but often waste. We need a Billy Sharp type striker, who plays on the last defender, doesn't score great individual goals, but puts the ball in the net. Obviously, they need to be of better quality to adapt to the PL, but I think a player of the mould of Sharp and Hooper, but with a foreign sounding name, should be the one who we target this summer. -

Anyone heard anything about Jeremain Lens? Was linked with us last summer and in January, has publicly stated he wishes to leave this summer to the Premier League, and would be relatively affordable (around £7-10M). He would probably be my number one REALISTIC and QUALITY target over the summer, in an attacking sense. -

One of the last things that guy tweeted was 'Livermore to QPR' from January 31st. Seems a very credible source....... -

Has anyone heard anything regarding possible signings for Saints? Was a few names mentioned before the end of the season, but nothing really since. -

I accept their past achievements and remember them well when they got to the CL final in '04, only to be beaten by Mourinho's Porto. However, my point was, on the face of it Monaco are a club, with an 18,000 capacity ground and have been promoted up from the second tier, and therefore are unlikely to attract massive players if it wasn't for the significant funding they have behind them. My comparison with Cardiff, was merely the fact they were a newly promoted club, with decent foreign backing, and would be attracting two top European talents. I do admit that the link was somewhat weak, in the sense that Monaco do have a certain amount of success on a European scale, in the recent past. I probably haven't put it in the best way, but my point is just that money is the motivation for these guys to play for Monaco, in a tax haven, and in a top European division, under a chairman who no doubt has lofty ambitions. As with PSG and Man City, money does talk, and can buy you success in the short term by buying big names on lucrative deals. Based on their talent, I would like to see these guys, as with Falcao, to join a top European side. That's my point. -

Money. Ambition is nothing without money, that is my point. -

Not because it's a tax haven then? Rodriguez and Moutinho would never have joined them if it wasn't for the money. It's effectively the equivalent of Cardiff buying Lewandowski and Reus - unlikely without the money motivation. -

Fair enough but I think Davis has consistently performed well and we would miss his work rate - something which you can't rely on Gaston for.

Giving De Ridder a 4 is more than generous, would be a 1 from me. Also, I don't see how you can give Ramirez a 6, when he has definitely not lived up to expectation plus that is the same score you have given Steven Davis, which I disagree with. For me he has been very solid for us and always puts a great shift in, would give him a 7.5. Other than that, I think you have got them pretty much spot on.

Saints players going into management
Nigel=God-Poyet=Sod replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Always thought Rickie would make a good manager, very passionate and has a good football brain. Steven Davis is very likely to I think. He seems very intelligent and talks well, also he is an obvious leader. I think Schneiders could have the makings of being a good manager. I can imagine his teams playing very attractive football. -
Put the ball through to Ward-Prowse who crossed to find Puncheon, who scored the goal. He then hit a nice volley near the end which forced a decent save out of Mignolet. We can't rely on Rickie all the time, the last few games has showed that but he didn't have a bad game today. Lallana on the other hand has been a poor captain and a poor performer over the last few weeks. Puncheon deserves to get a start next week vs Stoke. But lets be positive, safety secured!

You mean the club Everton who let him go on a free a few seasons ago? But if Martinez goes there, stranger things have happened. -

Is a striker like Osvaldo or Soldado out of the question for Saints? I could see us going for someone with a terrific record in La Liga, but someone who nobody has taken a chance on. Soldado is always mentioned as a possible signing for the top clubs but never moves. -
40/1 to be relegated currently on Betfair.
Nigel=God-Poyet=Sod replied to tisspahars's topic in The Saints
I also saw Skybet's odds after West Brom last week and stuck £20 on at 80/1. Seriously don't want to end up with £1600, although it would pay for the whole family's season tickets for next year in the Championship..... -
'Southampton target Celtic trio'
Nigel=God-Poyet=Sod replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Hooper has scored goals all his career, yes only in the football league and SPL, but also Europe. It would be stupid to not want him if he was a target for us IMO. Agree about Wanyama though, he is an exceptional player. -

Nigel=God-Poyet=Sod replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
I love Rickie, he is my favourite player, but he had a terrible game today and probably his worst in a Saints shirt. Yes West Brom defended well, but the basic striker instincts just alien to him today. It's only one game and we just have to move on quickly and forget about it. Certainly a bad day at the office. -

We were rubbish today and deserved to lose. Red cards were fair but we were well short all over the pitch compared to West Brom. West Brom were excellent and work harder than us and looked a threat all game. Lukaku has a big future I think. Their fans were superb aswell and acted as my afternoon entertainment. Just need to improve for the last few games and pick up a few more points to end the season well. -
Has Richardson played at all under Pochettino? Would think he would put Davis back there if Schneiders isn't fully fit, then put Ramirez and Lallana just behind J Rod and Rickie. He has plenty of options but I don't think Richardson at sweeper would be the best one to go with but I may be wrong.

Oh right for that hilarious red card against West Ham. He was really good for them at their place earlier this season. Cheers.
