  1. I know Wigan are our rivals but I'm not that bothered that they picked up a point tonight, Football managed to beat Rugby in the second half anyway. That said, Saturday's game is huge. Get anything at Old Trafford tomorrow and we will be delighted. QPR may have drawn against City but at the end of the day, it's just one point.
  2. So actually what MP is saying is not 'we won't sign anybody else', it's more we are in the market for players who will improve us and will not just buy players for the sake of it (like West Ham perhaps).
  3. Get rid of De Ridder and bring in a better quality replacement for him then I'll be happy.
  4. Think we knew this wasn't going to be our transfer anyway but having medical at Liverpool on Monday according to Times journalist. @JNorthcroft: Coutinho to Liverpool with medical on Monday but initial fee much less than the €13m being reported - €10m.
  5. The usual Saints fans twitter accounts like TalkSaints are falling for this big time. Genuinely fascinating to see how easily people believe information on social media, if its the news they want to hear.
  6. Tweet from Liverpool's equivalent of BBC Solent. @bbcmerseysport: Inter Milan have accepted Southampton's £10.2 million bid for Liverpool target Phillipe Coutinho. Will Liverpool match that bid ?
  7. Again, another former Espanyol player, hence the link. Would be a fantastic addition but just don't see that happening.
  8. Thanks to Andy Crosby, Jim Stannard and Dean Wilkins for their tireless work for us the last few years. Nigel, I'm sure, would be the first to mention their efforts. That footage of Nigel and Crosby at full time at Chelsea and the celebrations at Leeds away last year on the bench with Wilkins' cheeky grin are fond memories for me. Can't believe we won't see these guys in the dugout again. Will back the new staff though.
  9. I won't be waving a hankie but think that if people want to, they have the right to protest. I have no problem with people wanting to show their feelings because they are loyal Southampton supporters. I don't think people on here should mock other people over it. If they want to do it, let them do it, that's why it's a protest.
  10. I'm still ashamed. Still can't believe we have treated the man who brought so much to club, including a feel good factor in everyone and back-to-back promotions, like a piece of dirt on the floor. Not so much as a thanks from NC in his comments on the OS, just "whilst we acknowledge...'. Outrageous and what ever the outcome of this, the fact remains that NC has done it in such a dreadful way.
  11. Very true, Cortese has acted very poorly over this. Nigel himself proved that you don't have to be nasty to be successful.
  12. I'm with you in this but won't take it out on the new manager. Been a terrible day.
  13. Maybe Cortese wants out of the club? He knows Adkins is popular with the fans, rightly so, and sacking him, especially after showing such character on Wednesday, would send us fans bonkers. We would all be against Nicola and he might use this as an excuse to sell the club. Just making it up before anyone asks for a source. And for the record, sacking Nigel would be the worst decision this club has made in a very long time.

  15. Here's the article on him from the Mirror: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/southampton-eye-mauricio-pochettino-ex-coach-1542392
  16. He has always been terrific for us. I think he has a great attitude, a terrific work-rate and wonderful ability. Certainly, our unsung hero and I'm very glad he's getting the recognition. Natural captain and a midfield general IMO
  17. I think they should both be playing. Both have different strengths and were looking together on Saturday. Rickie is more effective in bringing the rest of the team into play. That's why his omission tonight is so baffling.
  18. I am very surprised about Rickie as he has been our best player for the last 3 years but yet again Nigel hasn't given him a shot at a big club away from home. Can understand no Gaston as he goes missing at times away from home, but I think people need to get away from this 'lack of pace' nonsense because J Rod can do the running with Rickie playing deeper to play the balls through to him. We will hardly win an attacking header tonight. Stupid decision IMO.
  19. He's left footed and so I imagine he plays towards that side.
  20. Thinking about it, Liverpool are perhaps being a bit disrespectful to the lad, even though they have right to see him play of course, by putting him on trial. He is a top player over in Norway and now an international. He will no doubt be playing second fiddle to Agger and Skrtel at Anfield, and Carragher of course......
  21. Highly rated central defender and at a good age, 24. Having a trial at Liverpool this week, beginning tomorrow, but Norwegian journalists claim we are the favourites to land him. BBC article claims that us and Reading are interested. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21016927 Maybe not worth a new thread but there doesn't seem a lot going on at the moment.
  22. Astori starts for Cagliari today in their match against Genoa.
  23. Watching Boruc today actually made me feel confident we were going to hold out, he was confident, commanded the box, his handling was terrific and made a worldy save. Really chuffed for him because he hasn't the best of starts for us. I hope he can continue to improve for the rest of the season.
  24. Highlights the lack of quality in our squad because we have nobody better unbelievably.
