  1. Being quick, doesn't a winger make. I also don't really see the comparisons. KdB is equally adept as playing as an AM as a winger. City and United don't play the same sort of system as us, and actually deploy wingers, hence why United have at least 3/4 in there squad.
  2. Sometimes some of the things I see on here remind me of when I went to see Shrewsbury vs Bury. Shrewsbury were playing 4-3-3, and the local genius I was lucky enough to be sat in front of pipes up midway through the first half with a chant of: "4-4-2, it always works. 4-4-2, it always works." Before spending the rest of the match decrying that his advice wasn't being listened to, or that they weren't getting it forward enough, I.e. jumping it 60 yards every time a defender had it. They won, yet he still wasn't happy with these "poncy foreign tactics".
  3. WE NEED A PACY WINGER!!! ...to play in our system that has no wingers. Every time I read this I die a little in side.
  4. That's the thing, wasn't JGL basically set up to be Robin? Making him Bats would be bizarre. Anyway, I missed it was going to be Batman vs Superman. It's going to be a trainwreck anyway. All these vs films are. The exception proving this, of course, is:
  5. Was Jeffers the same too?
  6. Let's just remember some of the reactions to Heath Ledger being cast as Joker. I don't actually mind BA all that much, liked some of his early films. Though do think it is an odd choice. Oh well, there is always this to have a chuckle at:
  7. I think if Lambert, Ossie & Gaston click, someone could be in for a hiding this season. Hopefully Sunderland tomorrow, I have a totally irrational dislike for them. No idea why, just do.
  8. It's kinda funny how people call for another striker all summer, then as soon as we get one we worry about Lambert. There's nowt to worry about, 40+ game season, would be daft to put the entire burden on a 31 year old Lambo's shoulders (again). If we want to progress we have to keep signing better players, Osvaldo is an upgrade on what we had available, simple. I do feel that we will see them playing together though, hopefully taking turns to lead the line and drop deep as a game progresses. I'm hoping having the option of a man playing off the shoulder will see us utilise Gaston better. If this comes off, I think it could be a joy to behold at times - though I'm sure there will be times when it doesn't and is ultimately infuriating. Lambo will never be forgotten though. Saints legend. First one of this century?
  9. In that respect, he's very good at his job.
  10. C'mon boys, let's show this league we mean business. Boruc Clyne Yoshi Lovren Shaw Vic Morgan Gaston Rickie Adam Ossie Really can't see Sunderland coping with that if I'm honest. 6 from 6 would be grand!
  11. I'd be lying if I said I loved it. Like most, my thoughts are pretty "mehh".
  12. Or having not made 18 signings by the second week of june
  13. Have you ever read this site? I find myself perplexed on an almost daily basis at the things people get worked up about when it comes to saints. I thought this too would be one of them. I was clearly wrong.
  14. Must admit I thought people would be pretty angry bout this. Pleasantly surprised by the reactions so far
  15. Kind of my thoughts. Does it really matter? Does it affect anything, really? You won't be able to see it once the people are there anyway.
  16. Cue the hate...
  17. I went to Watford quite a few times last season (I live pretty close) and have to say he was pretty impressive. Was definitely a level above the Championship. Wouldn't have minded seeing him come to Saints, but wasn't gutted he went elsewhere either. Think he would have been a better fit here, than WBA. He can play on the ball, and make things happen - WBA seem more counter-attack minded than us (or Watford last season) so not sure how well he will fit in to their system.
  18. People that do not understand that the top/bottom of a flight of stairs/escalator is not a great place to just suddenly stop walking. Said people who do not understand that stairs/escalators generally have a flow of people moving along them. Said people that then get arsey when they have suddenly stopped, and end up on the floor when someone (usually me) who is much taller and heavier (I'm a bit of a lump) goes crashing into the back of them, thinking it is no way their own doing, and is entirely my fault.
  19. The same 'realists' that thought we were certain to go down last season at the hands of Wigan, needing a miraculous uplift in form - which they had not showed all season, and would have to have included wins against an arsenal team who were firing on all cylinders? Those realists?
  20. Spot on, all of this. I don't get people like Barry. Anyone that looks to express anything remotely positive or optimistic - he has to be there to p!ss all over it and call them deluded. No, we aren't better than Arsenal, no we won't finish above them. Can we close the gap on them from last year? I don't see why not. We have strengthened significantly in some key areas, whilst they have not. So why can we not be positive/optimistic about our improvement, and chances of closing the gap on some of the bigger teams. I personally do not think it is deluded to think we stand a good chance of being a fair bit closer to the bigger sides than we were last season. As for those that are going on about getting carried away at one tight win, what would have been the reaction (most probably from those same posters - or those that have been pretty darn quiet over the past few days post-WBA/Osvaldo) should WBA snatched a winner in a tight game, which we probably just edged? There would have been an outpouring of the usual bile - criticism of the club, and the way it is run, transfers, personnel etc etc etc. One poster may a bit of a wild claim, and once again the same usual suspects have taken this to be representative of the entire board in their crusade to ensure everyone shares in the same miserable, myopic, bizarrely skewed world view they have. My thanks to that poster that started that thread, we will not here the end of snide "we are better than arsenal" comments, supposedly representing the entire forum, from Barry, Turkish and Glasgow all f***in season now. Good work.
  21. We did have one, we just sold it (effectively) to get an instant hit of cash when we were teetering on the brink of admin. Part of this deal was Tommy forecast. Yep, crap deal - that didn't even prevent admin, but there was a sell-on clause.
  22. Chill Winston. It's really not all that bad. J-Rod is clearly preferred by MP, and I certainly agree with that. There seems to be pretty substantial rumours that there will be a replacement coming in anyway. What's to get so het up about?
  23. I won't be as upset as some if he does go. He's a decent enough player, but I really don't rate him as much as others on here I don't think. I think he flatters to deceive quite frankly, and yes he is direct, but then very often slows down play by dragging back, pausing, dragging back again and getting himself a bit lost. He was good at times last year, and yeah scored some important goals, but he was also prone to go missing. He did win me round after his petulance and immature outbursts, and I wish him well, but yeah I'm not overly fussed by his leaving. Particularly if rumours of an incoming upgrade are true. Cheers punch, all the best.
  24. Very belatedly listened to Savages album yesterday. Wow.
  25. Didn't Cortese stipulate that Arsenal were to pay the initial £12m fee upfront in one lump sum. The remaining £3m was to be add-ons for performance, etc. Apologies if incorrect - that was just my understanding of the deal?
