This is the second daftest 'debate' of the season. Second to 'club to sell Long to reinvest'. We paid what we paid. Shane Long has been exactly what we needed and his efforts this season have played a huge role in galvanising the team spirit and general effort, arguably helping keep us in the Premier League, which by some simple reckoning is worth more than the £12m we paid for him this season. Easy. For the record I thought he was a perfect signing when we purchased him, and like others, recognised the cost reflected the market, not a comparison with how much we paid for Steve Moran!

...Spurs, Chelsea or Man Utd never win the league again. Yes it would. As for the original question, you should get a middle eastern state involved in your quest as they managed to get the World Cup to f**k the whole system that's been in existence for 100 or so years up.

I reckon we will be surprised by who we sign...as in they don't make the gossip columns of the s**t rags and nobody saw it coming

Can't imagine the fee paid to Spurs will have any impact on our kit deal. We aren't going to sell anywhere near the amount Spurs do, and the press w**k over them at any opportunity so that's a lot of extra positive 'brand' exposure. Under Armour are doing well in the US and will probably pay us more than adidas, and probably give us a unique shirt as that's what they do with all their kits from a look at their other team stuff.

Adrian Heath is a given. I'm throwing Andy Ritchie in for his late late equaliser for Oldham that sent the cup match we were playing to a replay at Oldham's plastic pitch. Although I probably should note that it was Roger Milford who caused this dislike by adding a massive amount of seemingly unnecessary additional time for them to score. Still makes me angry thinking about it!

It was Man Utd the other day apparently. It's normal, it's football...media producing click bait. Not that it may not happen or there is genuine interest of course. The key thing this season is that we need to move from being a 'showcase' club to one where there is a core of players who actually want to be here because they really enjoy it!

Post-Match Reaction: SAINTS 1-1 Sunderland
Daft Kerplunk replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
I've been watching for over 30 years and I actually still want us to be ambitious. Yes we've had some terrible times but in recent times we've had a massive opportunity to move on. I'd like us to take that chance and do something more special than being acceptably average. I don't see why so many people think ambition is bad. -
Lovren, Alderweireld or van Dijk?
Daft Kerplunk replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
Virgil showed signs today of leadership and genuinely giving a ****e. Toby was awesome but VVD is becoming that way too. He's one of the players we need to build the team around. -
Bournemouth 2-0 Saints - Post Match Meltdown
Daft Kerplunk replied to Pamplemousse's topic in The Saints
That is probably where we will finish now Chelsea are back in the mix and Everton catching up. Maybe we can rise above Stoke but given the ups and downs of this season, 9th would be a fair reflection where we've looked decent and average as often as each. -

**** performance, team needs to move on from the last two results quickly. In the summer we need true leadership added -
Bournemouth 2-0 Saints - Post Match Meltdown
Daft Kerplunk replied to Pamplemousse's topic in The Saints
Well that was ****ing ****, not up for it from the first minute. The scene was set from then. Whatever happens this season, in the close season we need to add some bite and a leader who can drive us on when things aren't going according to plan. -
I would suggest anyone who doesn't appreciate Clasie now thinks the ideal midfielder is one of the following: Terry Hurlock or Vinny Jones
-
Ultimately, stadium size reflects ambition. When we played at the dell last, we had just over 15k a game and many people said we'd struggle to fill 25k let alone 32k. It's not a case of build it and they will come but if we play good football, and the growth of the game and its popularity continues (which many teams clearly think it will do if they are adding capacity) then we would make stadium expansion pay its way.
-
There's many reasons why this would be the case: no shows, returns etc. But it won't be the case that the two stadiums are similar size for long as Leicester, like a number of other clubs, are adding more capacity to their stadiums.

You should ask Barca fans how they feel about Luis Figo

......and so what about summer signings?
Daft Kerplunk replied to david in sweden's topic in The Saints
No but he will probably be England left back at the euros and we know how that goes. I would imagine he'd only go to a London club though and I would not put my life savings on him staying if I had to make a choice. Hope he stays of course. -

We will probably need to replace Mane, Wanyama and Bertrand but those three should fetch decent money and enable us to get capable replacements, and in Romeu, we have one already. -
Poch wouldn't leave Spurs for Chelsea or Man U
Daft Kerplunk replied to Wes Tender's topic in The Saints
That the Spurs 'legends' are speaking in the media suggests that something is happening, or there will be interest. The media has so many Spurs fans within it that they keep the dream alive. Maybe he will stay but prove it at Spurs and he will be off to a club with bigger ability to match the stated ambition. And I absolutely hope he leaves Spurs very soon, because they are ****s -
No, we should sell him to reinvest

FFP, new contracts and the momey in the prem now...
Daft Kerplunk replied to Saint86's topic in The Saints
Any talk of a European super league is leverage to get more money from uefa for the champions league. A super league would likely fail as soon as Man Utd or any other realise they might go 15 years or more without winning anything if they split from their country's league. -
Surely the big problem here is that unless all the other clubs don't do it, and especially the big ones who probably don't give two hoots, then we'd be at a disadvantage with the increased revenue they'd have and we didn't, however small it is. The agents will already be making sure their 'clients' are getting the biggest slice of the pie so there probably isn't going to be that much money left to reduce ticket prices anyway. Unfortunate as that is, I think the club is in a very difficult position on this topic as it is not straightforward and the likes of Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs who will probably do what they want because they can due to the size of their fan bases and or their fans ability and willingness to pay will cock it up for everyone else. The best way to get the club to the point where it makes sense to even think about reducing ticket prices is probably buy more merchandise and get to the ground and have your pre match pint(s) and pie there instead of going elsewhere until 5 minutes before kick off.
-
The shame (with that England team) is that there is only one Chelsea player there and they come south and nick players who probably should really join us and develop properly.
-
It won't be long before premier league grounds are pretty much sterile environments and then the TV product will diminish because there will be little atmosphere to keep it as an exciting spectacle. It's getting bad enough already but the higher the ticket price, the less likely it is for younger (note likely to be vocal) fans come and the premier league deals may begin to drop as the popularity will decrease globally when the matches are a sanitised product. I don't blame clubs like saints but those at the top who feed the media excitement over bigger deals. The rich may get richer but the product of live sport withough a decent atmosphere will not be as appealing and a result of keeping a richer mix of fan types.
