What do you expect ? He did his job in the Falklands conflict, but otherwise he is just another privileged individual living a life thst insulates him from reality, and is surrounded by sycophants who tell him everything he does is wonderful.

I have similar qualms over His Dark Materials, where they have set it in the present day, and have added in large portions of storyline that never existed in the original trilogy ( other than as events referred to as having happened in the past ). ( eg Lord Boreal's storyline - who should be a sixty-something white man ). And when they did the recent version of the ABC Murders, they mucked about unecessarily with Poirot's back story, and killed off Inspector Japp before it even got going. Why do they have to reinvent established stories just to show how clever they are, or to impose modern social sensibilities on material written well before they emerged. If they want to show how smart and 'aware' they are, they should try creating something original.
