1. Because in the same way as the Government the unions are self serving and dogmatic, and this is more to do with public posturing on both sides to impress their own respective audiences.
2. Which brings us nicely back to the question 'why won't the Treasury permit an independent audit of the schemes ?', so as to verify if it is indeed the case that certain of the public sector schemes, such as the LGPS, are cash rich and do not require propping up by the taxpayer.
3. I don't take issue with any of that, in fact the % of GDP is supposed to be going down. Where there seemed to be an issue on Newsnight yesterday was that Mark Serwotka was claiming the increased contributions being demanded were not, in fact, going to be fed into the pension schemes, but would be siphoned off by the Treasury.
4. The LGPS is administered by Local Authorities ( the employers ), who invest the funds on behalf of the member employees. It has no direct link to the Government, other than the over-riding regulations concerning how it should be managed.
5. I didn't realise you were a leftie.
6. Please quote the full facts if posting something potentially imflammatory : This is governed by the National Occupational Sick pay Scheme :

Length of Service CSP Entitlement

During 1st year of service 1 month full pay + (after completing 4 months’ service) 2 months’ half pay

During 2nd year of service 2 months’ full pay + 2 months’ half pay

During 3rd year of service 4 months’ full pay + 4 months’ half pay

During 4th and 5th years of service 5 months’ full pay + 5 months’ half pay

After 5 years’ service 6 months’ full pay + 6 months’ half pay

7. BMI is bang in the middle of what it should be, salad for lunch - as usual, and off to the gym at 15:30 - once the shift has finished for the day. So I'll give you 1/4 for trying.
8. She has the right to ask, but the staff have the right to not reply. Generally advice would be given by the Local Education Authority.
9. Trousers,( post #333), I am not sure the Head would necessarily have access to the data you are querying in A, B, and C.
10. Multiple choice question for you Dune old dear - am I in work ? Yes or No ?
11. Didn't Francis Fraud suggest that strikers should just take a token 15 minutes of action ? Maybe they are following his advice.
12. I have another question for Dune, is post #34 too difficult for you ?
13. Correct - Hutton pointed out that some schemes, including the LGPS, were in funds and did not present any form of significant risk. ( Maybe there should be an independent audit of the public sector schemes ).
14. Dune, given your views on the public sector, which of the following services, all of which depend on the work I do, would you like to see pruned to save money : home care for the elderly / meals on wheels / sheltered housing respite care child protection environmental protection environmental health trading standards schools
15. Says the man who doesn't know what his opinion is today until he's seen the Daily Mail headlines.
16. And I spend my public sector salary on goods and services produced and delivered by the private sector.
17. Well, as Lancaster Royal Grammar School is open tomorrow, I don't have to worry about what to do with my son
18. Generally it's the latter, - I drop my wife off at 5 to 8 and some kids are there already. Also, an interesting bit on the Beeb : http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-15925017
19. How about dropping them off at 8:00 half dressed and having had no breakfast, ( and, please note, this is parents who are unemployed so it's not as if they are trying to get to work ), and then sending an 'auntie' or even a taxi round just before 17:00 to collect them. This is everyday behaviour at my wife's school.
20. Cavendish. ( It's a pity that HTC probably can't get a team award, as they have been far and away the best group of competitive cyclists ever put together. )
21. And to reinforce the point he said it twice
22. Your lack of cutting and pasting skill is genuinely worrying !
23. Q - What is the point of a strike if it doesn't cause inconvenience to somebody ?
