  1. Didn't Francis Fraud suggest that strikers should just take a token 15 minutes of action ? Maybe they are following his advice.
  2. I have another question for Dune, is post #34 too difficult for you ?
  3. Correct - Hutton pointed out that some schemes, including the LGPS, were in funds and did not present any form of significant risk. ( Maybe there should be an independent audit of the public sector schemes ).
  4. Dune, given your views on the public sector, which of the following services, all of which depend on the work I do, would you like to see pruned to save money : home care for the elderly / meals on wheels / sheltered housing respite care child protection environmental protection environmental health trading standards schools
  5. Says the man who doesn't know what his opinion is today until he's seen the Daily Mail headlines.
  6. And I spend my public sector salary on goods and services produced and delivered by the private sector.
  7. Well, as Lancaster Royal Grammar School is open tomorrow, I don't have to worry about what to do with my son
  8. Generally it's the latter, - I drop my wife off at 5 to 8 and some kids are there already. Also, an interesting bit on the Beeb : http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-15925017
  9. How about dropping them off at 8:00 half dressed and having had no breakfast, ( and, please note, this is parents who are unemployed so it's not as if they are trying to get to work ), and then sending an 'auntie' or even a taxi round just before 17:00 to collect them. This is everyday behaviour at my wife's school.
  10. Cavendish. ( It's a pity that HTC probably can't get a team award, as they have been far and away the best group of competitive cyclists ever put together. )
  11. And to reinforce the point he said it twice
  12. Your lack of cutting and pasting skill is genuinely worrying !
  13. Q - What is the point of a strike if it doesn't cause inconvenience to somebody ?
  14. 2/3rds of them apparently.
  15. All that proves is that in this constituency the analogy of the donkey and the blue ribbon holds true ! I also note that he failed to gain the votes of 50% of his electorate, so by applying the new rules that seem apply to union ballots, he has no mandate to sit as the MP.
  16. We have already established that Gove is an idiot and nobody, other than you, pays him any attention.
  17. In what way are people 'avoiding what they should pay' ? A significant %age of my salary is top sliced as the contribution to the LGPS scheme. This dispute is about the Government wanting to change the contracted agreements, yet again, to help cover off the cost of bailing out banks, and other aspects of their dogmatic approach to economic mis-management.
  18. The coalition believe they themselves do have a mandate, yet tell the unions that they do not. The unions are merely playing by the Government's rules.
  19. Local Authority workers and teachers were renegotiating their pension schemes and agreeing to pay increased contributions to keep the schemes completely self funded.
  20. Nobody voted for a LibDem / Tory coalition, but we've got one.
  21. Since when did 'gold plated' become synonymous with 'guaranteed' ? Based on the average for NHS and LA staff, I would suggest the pensions are at best 'copper plated'.
  22. I don't have to tell my manager, and I certainly won't be telling you lot in advance.
  23. Well you must be the resident expert on that, given the amount you spout
