A couple of young German lads stopped me in the High Street to ask for directions to the stadium. Having given them, we had a short conversation about the relative merits of certain players. Hojbjerg's name came up, him having playing in the German top flight for Bayern Munich, and they said that he had never scored against Koln. I told them that that was about to change today, to much merriment from them. We made a very promising start to the match, pressing high up the pitch and every player shutting down Koln's options to play out from the back by marking their players across the pitch, forcing them to concede possession either by hurried passes, or hoofing the ball up the pitch. But after the initial energy had declined, we slowly stopped the high press allowing Koln to come back into the game, and they began to spend much more time in our half. Playing three at the back with Bertrand and Valery was fine whenever we played the ball out wide, but with J-WP and Hojbjerg in midfield, we lacked the muscle to command it. The Koln midfield and defence players were strong and began to muscle our players off the ball too often. In the second half, we kept better possession with the introduction of Armstrong and Romeu, and Long is always useful when it comes to getting stuck in when tracking back. Both new players gave a good showing. Adams looks a good threat up top and Djenepo is raw, but has good pace and an impressive desire to win back the ball when he lost it. Of the players who looked out of favour previously, Boufal impressed, and could be another of those players who Hasenhuttl turns around. Cedric looked solid playing largely on the left. Of the other players, I would always prefer Yoshida to Stephens. Benarek had a good game, Vestergaard was reliable, but we definitely still need another quality CB, with little time remaining to sign one. No problems with any of the others, except in the case of injuries, where we might be a bit light in their replacements, especially in the full back and CB positions. Ings either desperately needs coaching in how to take a penalty, or to be dropped from taking them. That faltering run followed by the most feeble tap down the middle at waist height could have been saved by any tyro league keeper. As the final pre-season match, I was expecting to see what would mostly be the first team choice, but as we played better in the second half apart from the first 20 minutes, the match seemed to ask as many questions of the team selection as it answered.

A German fan, presumably Koln, interested in Boufal's performance, which on this evidence looked pretty good:-

The United Kingdom and the Death of Boris Johnson as we know it.
Wes Tender replied to CB Fry's topic in The Lounge
It is mildly amusing that the disgraceful Labour/Lib Dumbs/Greens/Plaid/SNP are going to stop the thing they want, remaining in the EU. By all of them putting up candidates for each constituency in the elections, it will split their vote, so they won't get a majority to remain in the EU. It is comical that these thickos are voting against each other, so stopping the very thing they want, as they are going to deprive their own parties of the seats they require to push it through. If Labour eventually decide to become a Remain party, then their vote will be split by the Lib Dumbs unless they make a pact, but anyway they then will lose bags of seats in the Labour industrial heartlands. Who's to say that the Tories and Brexit Party won't make a pact too? Failing that, it isn't beyond the wit of the electorate to figure out that they can vote tactically to support the candidate with the greatest chance of delivering the leave vote. -
We could save £39 billion leaving the EU. Let's spend that on whatever we want to, instead of giving it to the failing EU

Whereas the official opposition are a much greater minority and could only achieve a majority by being propped up by every other MP from every other party. And God knows what level of bribery would be required for Labour to achieve that. -

For once I agree with you. Good riddance to him. He should join the Lib Dumbs or the Greens where he belongs. -
Chelsea and Leicester home games moved for TV

I have tickets for the President's Lounge for that match. I understand that the club will probably switch them to the Everton Match in November. What's the betting that that match will also be switched for the bloody telly Gods? -

Fake news -
Disprove of? Much is wrong with your language skills too, Soggy.

I refer the dishonourable gentleman (?) to the reply I gave earlier.

If you don't know, it would be a total waste of time trying to get you to understand.

I'm quite happy to have a little gloat at the discomfort of the likes of you (and your mate Adonis; where has he been recently?) from time to time, and then to disappear for a while and have an inward surreptitious laugh at the house remoaners spluttering and frothing among themselves in the absence of any leaver on whom to vent their bile. I'll probably resurface again towards the end of October leave deadline unless there are other developments worthy of spending the time to comment on. -

You obviously missed my happiness at the dawning of a bright new era with all of the hapless and incompetent remoaners being removed from the Government, to be replaced by those who believe in the positive benefits to the country following our departure from the EU, either with or without a FT deal with them. It is obviously you who are the agitated one, or you wouldn't have felt the need to lower yourself into the gutter once again with your infantile past insult, for which you were roundly condemned by most of the decent posters on here. But on this glorious day, I can still find some time to feel magnamimous towards you and I offer you my pity and sympathy for your suffering. -

You really are clueless about Tory policies. Of course you and the usual suspects are having a collective meltdown, as you have started your very own forum thread to express your angst at the appointment of Boris as PM. Woe is you, thrice woe. I'll really enjoy the daily outpourings of doom and gloom from you remoaners as you wail and gnash your teeth at your impotence to change anything. -

It's a beautiful day. Some great sackings and some great appointments. It's good to see all the usual forum snowflakes having a collective meltdown this morning. -
Jo Swinson (and the Death of the Liberal Party)

And my advice to you in this weather is to go and lie down in a cool dark place, mate. -

If you can't see the disparity between the two situations, then I feel sorry for you. I don't recall Boris saying that he wouldn't abide by the decision of any referendum. -
Jo Swinson (and the Death of the Liberal Party)
Wes Tender replied to Tamesaint's topic in The Lounge
That was then. In the meantime, the Party has changed leaders a couple of times and the current one doesn't believe in referenda. She is for holding yet another one on our membership of the EU, but has already stated that she wouldn't respect the result before it has even been held. Within hours of being elected, she can lay claim to being probably the least democratic leader that party has ever had. Well done, young lady. -
Suck it up, snowflake.

I'll just enjoy the schadenfreude of all you leftie tossers on here trying to console yourselves by poking fun at Boris, when there is absolutely nothing at all that you can do to prevent him becoming leader of the Conservative Party and PM, unless you have a vote as a party member. Boris is totally oblivious to your opinions on a football forum, so apart from the personal satisfaction you might derive from your verbal w*nks, you are all p*ssing in the wind.
-
I've asked you several times already. Which of Hunt or Gove was going to resign? You also don't appear able to understand that whichever of them stood aside, it would be futile, as Boris would win the membership vote regardless. As you are in full insult mode, it is clear that you have lost the argument badly and are thrashing about in a vain attempt to cover your arse. It pointless in continuing this argument with you, as when it comes to the rules of the Tory Party leadership elections, you clearly just don't know what you're talking about.
