Saints announce Virgin Media as new main club sponsor
Jai27 replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Big name and won't look rubbish on the kit. Perfect. -
This is true. I'm pretty sure Guan also dropped a hint that AVB was our number one target when this all first kicked off
-
For sure. He's a realistic target and I think we could get him for a similar wage to what Koeman was on. With that in mind I don't see how we could even consider someone like Moyes unless of course Pellegrini isn't interested. He has stated though that he'd like to stay in the Premier League and that pretty much gives him one option! Likewise with Frank de Boer.
-
Exactly. I haven't seen anyone make a direct comment stating that Everton are a smaller club than us. I honestly had no idea that their fans had such a napoleon complex about it all. I find it genuinely confusing how so many of their fans think they should be up there with the likes of Utd and Arsenal though. In my mind they slot into the West Ham category.

Emery wouldn't join Saints. Pellegrini was apparently on just over 4mil at City so it's certainly more than we usually pay but not unfeasible.
-
I think it's more a case of there being better options readily available. If these better options don't want to come here then fine lets take a look at Moyes, but as it stands I agree that he'd be a step down and not our style at all.
-
40mil for VVD, maybe more. First season in the prem and he was immense. Rarely put a foot wrong, scored a few goals, and he's only 24 years old.

2% of the forum think not...

I'm a definite no to Moyes. Statistically he's been very average and never truly excelled. Personally I don't think he over achieved at Everton and simply did what was expected. He's also been absolutely awful since leaving them. He's in danger of being labelled 'old school' and that game when Man U crossed 82 times with zero effect sticks in the mind and hints as to his tactical ability. You can't imagine Poch in the dressing room saying "right lads, here it is, get it wide and cross it into the box, boom, goals." Totally goes against the style of manager we go for and I doubt he'd excite many fans, current players or potential targets. However, it is true that he probably wouldn't jump ship. Plus there's a very real chance we'd see Fellaini in a Saints shirt...
-
Both players signed a new 5 year deal a few months back. You'd be looking at 70-80mil for both of them. We'll throw in Ward-Prowse and call it 100! That's your reported transfer fund gone then right? So with those 3 in and Stones and Lukaku out, I reckon your a shoe in for 15th next season.

I managed to get a tenner on AVB at 33/1 Friday afternoon, so... AVB please! That aside, I think Frank de Boer is the obvious choice and seems to fit perfectly in line with the clubs ethos.
-
Yup. That's the end of that. Lost a fair bit of respect for Koeman. Although I'm sure he's not that bothered
-
Van Gaal, Giggs, Moyes, Martinez... God no. I'd stick a tenner on them getting sacked by Xmas if we appointed any of that lot.
-
Morning all. What's the latest then?
-
The press are having a Picnic over all this speculation...
-
Would be such a shame. For me personally it would certainly change my opinion of him as a manager. If he were to go then it's purely to plump up his wallet and I didn't think he was that type of character.
-
Really like that. Unique, bold, and has a little nod to some history.
-
I don't think many people are suggesting that Saints are a bigger club than Everton. Purely that it wouldn't make much sense for Koeman to make the move there as the difference isn't all that these days. Put aside any bias and think, if you were in his position would you go to Everton? Or would you spend another year at Saints and more than likely get a bigger job offer after? Everton might be able to offer a bigger salary and transfer budget but you sure as hell aren't going to be playing Champions League football anytime soon. It's not quite a sideways move, more like 80 degrees. Also, I'd recommend a little more research with regards to the 2012 premier league comment
-
Would be a great signing for us, really like him as a player. Only issue would be that I can't see him getting much first team football unless we played him as a defensive midfielder or we started to play with 5 at the back again...
-
To be fair, if our song turns out anything like then count me in.
-
So tacky. Simply no need to do this. Plus we all know that there's only ONE football song...
-
Yup. Nasty player with a horrible attitude. We can do better for less.

Premiership stadiums getting bigger, hope we don't get left behind
Jai27 replied to 9-3's topic in The Saints
I'm sure this has been brought up and discussed at great length already but I'm much rather we invested in the area surrounding St. Mary's than expand the capacity when it's not really needed at the moment. Build a large bar on the river bank by Belvidere Road. There's a massive empty concrete slab right over the road from the Saints store. The club could run it, staff it and stock it just the same as inside. Serve food, sell programmes, Sky Sports, done. Sat outside on a roof terrace on a summers day by the river with a view of the stadium, what's not to like? It would be absolutely heaving on match days. -
Feyenoord! The atmosphere would be fantastic. Beitar Jerusalem would be an interesting one if they stay in the competition. Hertha BSC would be absolutely incredible purely for the trip to the stadium.
